Does that apply to Anne K. who today won her second qualifying round match in Auckland? thought she had her own thread but memory....
Plays 84 ranked Irina Falconi next winner qualifies for first round proper.
We used to have one for Anne K, but some of them never got set up again for the new forums. I'll set one up.
If any more individual threads need setting up please let us know.

James Ward has arrived in Kazan minus his racquets and clothing ...
Arrived in #russia (https://twitter.com/#!/search?q=%23russia) and its minus 24 degrees! Took me 2 days to get here,12 hour wait in istanbul airport and now I have no bags either!!
Turkish airlines now say they don't know where they are!! Looks like I'm borrowing a racket and clothes from someone then...#notideal (https://twitter.com/#!/search?q=%23notideal)!!!!!!!
Only good news for me this weekend is that #arsenal (https://twitter.com/#!/search?q=%23arsenal) came back to win!!
And from Steven on BT.net
H2H 0-2 - Bemelmans won 2 & 2 in Jersey in 2007 and 6 & 6 in Zagreb Q two years ago, so James is getting there, you could say!
Could be quite a shock to the system going from Australia a week and a half ago to -14C on the banks of the Volga halfway between Moscow and western Siberia, but it'll make Glasgow feel toasty in comparison LOL
Golding has won the first set against Ghedin (wr 338) in Turkey. 4-4 in 2nd.

A British win on the Futures circuit (operated by the ITF) and reported here (http://www.lta.org.uk/News/2012/March/2012-03-26/Andrew-Fitzpatrick-wins-first-Futures-event-in-Israel-/) by the LTA.
Andrew Fitzpatrick won his first ever Futures title in Israel on Sunday.
:trophy:
He's been getting a lot of support from the BT.net forum (http://britishtennis.activeboard.com/) where he writes occasional notes on what it's really like working your way up from the bottom. Sadly, he gets zero support from the LTA (although he had some minor training help when 18/19) mainly because as a 'late-bloomer' he slipped through the funding net at possibly the most critical time in his career. He's been desperately trying to get sponsorship or other support for ages.
I've been following his progress for a few years 'cos he's the nephew of my oldest school friend so I know very well just how hard it's been for him to stick to his guns and keep playing on a monetary shoestring. His family have helped keep him 'on the road' financially so they'll be chuffed to bits that he's got a W to his name (and some dosh to fund another month or so of playing).
Just a bit sad that he's nearly 23; you have to wonder if the right support and training advice might have got him to this position a LOT sooner in his career and at a lot younger age. To keep things in perspective 'oor Andy was WR#4 at age 23 and had been in the top 10 for a couple of years.
Anyhoo - a piccy of the lad with trophy and an idea of conditions at Futures level.

yes a great win - it was really quite exciting following the final yesterday - and I really love how Fitzy contributes to the BT forum - makes at all come alive! Hope he can get some proper funding from somewhere soon.

I think they played today indoors - word is that at 2 venues in Bournemouth (Bournemouth Gardens indoor clay and West Hants, which is the main venue, indoor hard/clay) may have been used because there were so many matches backed up on account of this being a combined Ladies and Mens event.
Anyways - quite a few British players into R3.
Worth a visit to watch free tennis and some of our upcoming lads and lasses!!!
L16: (JE) Liam Broady WR 829 vs (7) Erik Crepaldi (ITA) WR 597
L16: Matt Short WR 788 vs (Q) Tom Farquharson WR 1424
L16: (Q) Thibault Venturino (FRA) WR 1309 vs (8) Oli Golding WR 643
L16: (5) Andrew Fitzpatrick WR 540 vs James Feaver WR 772
L16: Marco Bortolotti (ITA) WR 956 vs (Q) Alan Bevan UNR
L16: Markus Eriksson (SWE) WR 747 vs (WC) Toby Martin WR 866
L16: Marcus Willis WR 784 vs (2) Richard Bloomfield WR 359
I think I might try and get to the Nottingham challenger.
I remember in my umpiring / line judging days I used to work at a lot of the futures events in particular. These are really good players who hit the ball HARD and yet we would often only have 1 or perhaps 2 line judges (on the long lines) so the umpire had to call base and service lines - not easy I can assure you!

I think I might try and get to the Nottingham challenger.
I might go to Nottingham too and also over to see the Ladies play at Edgbaston 'cos I can base myself at parents place not far from M5.

I went to Bournemouth yesterday - will do a miniblog tomorrow perhaps.
It was rather damp down there!!!
Today the Mens Final is being played between 2 British players.
Oli Golding (WR643) leads 7'6, 2'1 v Andrew Fitzpatrick (WR540).
Fitzy is now aged 23 and has been grinding on the circuit for a while as a self funded player after a good Junior career. Over the last 12 months has shot up 500 places in the rankings.
Golding has been earmarked as a "Brit to watch". He is only 18 and last year won the US Open Junior title (as did a young Andy Murray!). He's risen about 350 ranking places in the last year.
Oli now 5-3* up in the 2nd

Hope Fitzy's not too disappointed - he's been doing so well lately and I'm sure there's more to come from him.
Hope so!!!
He may have been a little more tired today than Oli because when I left at 5.00pm yesterday he had about half an hour before starting a doubles SF (lost). Also, I know he fell on Thursday and had hurt one of his hands so not sure if that might have made playing a bit more difficult - not that it looked that way when he beat Bloomers on Friday!!!
They'll all now be packing up and zooting off to Edinburgh!
So a reminder to anyone living in south Scotland - there's a Futures event in town next week!
Well done Oli!

Watson in the main draw for Saint-Gaudens and Brady in final round of qualies. Bally in main draw of Prague.
Most of those are Futures level events so they don't get livescores.
You might be lucky to find them on Flashscores but the best place to check for score updates is either the player twitter accounts or on BT.net. The LTA/ITF websites are only updated overnight.

It doesn't seem so. Bally is probably sorting out the ankle problems that have plagued her. AnneK seems to be at the Olympics Park a lot. Laura - not sure when/where she is next playing.
I thought Heather might have gone over to Montreal though but she's not in the draw.

Might have dreamt it but I think Laura said she has auto entry into the US Open and I've a feeling she may have said she's playing another tournie beforehand - maybe Cinci? She was certainly US bound at some interview point over the weekend.

Jamie Baker.
I've seen people on other boards asking why Jamie isn't in the US Open Qualifying event.
He last played in Binghampton with the intent of playing Challengers in the US ahead of the USO.
However, it seems he's been the subject of some spurious allegations and needs to sort it out.
This is from his twitter account on 31st July:
Jamie Baker @J_A_Baker (https://twitter.com/J_A_Baker)
Just a quick note to everyone and anyone who chooses to try and tarnish my name through match fixing allegations...... Rest assured this is being followed up in the appropriate legal manner

I see that Tara Moore won the Glasgow women's tournament - I remember discussing her on the very first Andy Murray forum, as she seemed then to be a very promising junior. She's not progressed as fast as I thought she would - overtaken by Laura and Heather both of whom I had never heard of back then - but she's been making slow but steady progress up the rankings, although I think she was out with injuries for a while. Wouldn't it be great if this year she could finally make the top 100?

Fab, both Heather and Laura making great progress!
Yes, and not too much too quickly, which can be counterproductive in the long run!
Now if they can push on and get seeding for Wimbledon (or is RG possible even?)
excellent news about Laura and Heather!
Further to my previous post about Tara Moore, there is an interview with her here (http://www.itftennis.com/procircuit/news/video/video-pro-circuit-interview-with-tara-moore.aspx)

That is brilliant news; been following Steven's updates on twitter whilst watching Deliciano play in Memphis (and I know he's not British but I know a few Brits who'd happily adopt him!).
Yes, I'm also watching Feli whilst also livescoring Tara's match on flashscores - saw Steven's tweets too. Hope Tara wins the final!
Tara's match has just started - livescores here (http://www.flashscores.co.uk/tennis/itf-women-singles/surprise/) - vamos Tara! :swingin:
Tara took the first set 6-3! Vamos!

What is the Aegon British Tour?
The Aegon British Tour provides a circuit of tournaments designed to complement the International Calendar giving up and coming players the opportunity to gain experience in their quest to become professional tennis players as well as those already competing on the national and international stage.
Players can gain points from each competition with a leader board displaying the total points gained from competitions throughout the year. Similar to the WTA Tour and ATP Tour, the top players on the leader board after all tournaments have been played are invited to the end of year Masters.

Our 4th ranked doubles player is still in action in America this week - at the Dallas Challenger.
QF: Dom Inglot/Eric Butorac d Begeman/Emmrich
Tough ask to go further though .....
SF: (2,WR90) Eric Butorac/Dominic Inglot (USA/GBR) v (4, WR108) Johan Brunström/Raven Klaasen (SWE/RSA)
Dom Inglot normally partners Treat Huey (PHI) but perhaps their ranking wouldn't have got them into I/Wells and that might explain why Huey partnered Janowicz and Dom went off to pair up with Booty at this high level Challenger event. Normal service should be resumed next week as Inglot/Huey are on the Miami Entry List.

Anyone know what the progress of Liam Broady is? He showed good potential in the junior slam events and I read somewhere a while ago that he's now on the pro tour, hopefully he is doing well! If anybody has been following his progress and activity it would be great to see how he is doing! I remember him having a hit with Andy at wimby, maybe last year? Or the year before that?
You can find out all about how he (or any other player) has been doing on the ATP website - here is his profile (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/Players/Br/L/Liam-Broady.aspx).

Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-2323417/Brydan-Klein-switched-allegiance-Great-Britain.html) - British tennis has a new national No 3 in form of controversial Australian Klein
Yea I Saw a British Flag next to his name on LS in a challenger recently. I was like that's strange. Anyways hopefully he can make a good career for himself and has put past problems behind him.
Hopefully his ideas will now be more in line with those of us in Britain. When I visited Australia some years ago, I was shocked a the racism expressed by ordinary people I met.

Strange they all fell at the last hurdle..... Dan needs the monkey off his back - sooner rather than later. He could and should, have won that Aptos final. His game is there - when firing he is great to watch.

The LTA has announced that Michael Downey is the new Chief Executive of British Tennis.
He was CEO of Tennis Canada.
erm, so we nicked their banking chief and now their tennis chief ...
;)
More on Mike ... from the Rogers Cup "About Tennis Canada" page (http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=11&ved=0CFgQFjAK&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rogerscup.com%2Fmen%2Fpdf%2FT ennisCanada_2013_ENG.pdf&ei=TVlBUvOiA6aK7Ab8rIGoBA&usg=AFQjCNHKrBccz2eB7uzqoDrHvOt_kVh7Ww&bvm=bv.52434380,d.ZGU&cad=rja)
President and Chief Executive Officer, Tennis Canada
Michael S. Downey was named president and Chief Executive Officer of Tennis Canada in June 2004. Downey holds an impressive marketing and management resume in the beer and sports and entertainment industries.
Since arriving at Tennis Canada, Downey has developed a bold plan to diversify the revenue base to aggressively invest in tennis development. He has changed the culture of the organization and cultivated partnerships within the tennis and business worlds to enhance the image of Tennis Canada on the international stage. Throughout both professional tennis tours, Downey is a well-respected marketer who has lead several task forces to grow the game worldwide. The Rogers Cup tournaments set years after years records for tickets sales and rank among the top global events in terms of attendance and profitability.
In 2007, Downey led the board of directors to a bold $1 million annual incremental investment into high performance which was highlighted by the construction of a national tennis centre in Montreal and a national regrouping centre in Toronto. Also under the leadership of Downey, a successful fund development campaign called Tennis Matters was created and has already exceeded its $10 million donation goal.
As President of Molson Breweries’ largest region, Ontario-Western Canada, Downey led the company to record levels of profit and award-winning marketing campaigns, including the internationally renowned I Am Canadian television commercial.
A well-respected and recognizable figure in the Toronto sports market, Downey held senior executive positions with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, owners of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors and the Air Canada Centre.
Downey lives in Toronto.
And from a recent article in The Globe and Mail. (http://www.theglobeandmail.com/commentary/for-tennis-canada-the-trip-to-belgrade-began-15-years-ago/article14302422/)
In the late 1990’s, I was asked to join the board of Tennis Canada, which I agreed to do with great pleasure//
After joining Tennis Canada, I quickly learned we faced challenges. Like so many institutions in Canada, we were a federal structure, with the usual arguments about turf and control, the strengths of a strong sense of the local, and the dysfunction of a weaker national approach.//We didn’t have a clear path for really good players, so they ended up going elsewhere, or just not getting the help and coaching they needed. Our facilities in Toronto and Montreal were adequate, but the competition for tournaments that would attract the great players was stiff. The board was divided on some big issues: Could we bring people together to create an “elite” program without abandoning our remarkable local networks that had such strong roots and support? Could we finance two major infrastructure improvements in Montreal and Toronto to make sure those cities remained venues where the best in the world would come to play?//
These were fascinating discussions, sometimes emotional and difficult, and in the midst of them we hired a new CEO, Michael Downey, who did not come from the world of tennis.
More than ten years later, it turns out we made some good decisions.//
And so here we are, in 2013, in Belgrade. Canada is in the semi-finals of the Davis Cup, having beaten Spain and Italy, two countries whose national systems for training we were studying fifteen years ago.//
Canada is, admittedly, up against fierce competitors, the Serbs, whose own national program is extraordinary, and whose star, Novak Djokovic, is number one in the world.
//
Team Canada can work. And we shall show it in Belgrade.
