Who are the Britons playing? Men's draw:

(WC denotes wildcard, numbers denote seedings)

Jack Draper [WC] v Novak Djokovic (Srb) [1]

Liam Broady [WC] v Marco Cecchinato (Ita)

Jay Clarke [WC] v Egor Gerasimov (Blr)

Dan Evans [22] v Feliciano Lopez (Spa)

Andy Murray [WC] v Nikoloz Basilashvili (Geo)

Cameron Norrie [29] v Lucas Pouille (Fra)

Women's draw:

(WC denotes wildcard, numbers denote seedings)

Johanna Konta [27] v Katerina Siniakova (Cze)

Samantha Murray Shahan [WC] v Sorana Cirstea (Rou)

Emma Raducanu [WC] v Qualifier/Lucky loser

Francesca Jones [WC] v Coco Gauff (US) [20]

Heather Watson v Qualifier/Lucky loser

Harriet Dart [WC] v Elise Mertens (Bel) [13]

Jodie Burrage [WC] v Lauren Davis (US)

Katie Boulter [WC] v Qualifier/Lucky loser

no-one has got what you would say is an easy draw. Evans v Lopez looks a particularly slippery banana skin.

Whilst pretty tough for Andy could have been worse draw, should he advance qualifier awaits. Very tough for Jack Draper but should be up for opening match on centre! Certainly a bit of a challenge for Dan! Johanna Konta in the same section as top seed Ash Barty, Should Heather win will face winner of Petra Kvitova and Sloane Stephens. Unfortunately defending champion Simona Halep withdrew before draw, still not recovered from calf injury.

Medvedev faces Jan Lennard Struff who beat him in Halle whilst the Halle winner Ugo Humbert drawn against Nick Kygrios.

Think any match is tough now for Andy. Not just the effort needed to win a match, but whether he recovers for the following match. AND, he's lost some the aura (same goes for Federer to a lesser extent), players are happy to take him on, especially the younger guys who hit the ball so hard.

Simply cannot wait for Monday. Any draw is absolutely fine. It's Wimbledon. It's Andy. There was a time when we thought we may never see him play anywhere again, nevermind the hallowed grass of SW19. It's going to be fun and immensely emotional :excited:

Jack v Novak to open will also be a blast, something the lad will never forget no matter what he goes on to do :excited:

Andy's first Wimbo since 2017, Wimbledon coming back after last year's crushing cancellation - what a high after so many recent lows :cheer:

Shapstick has just beaten Robbie Bats 6'1, 6'3, 7'5

Rublev v Fucsovics is now 2-2 with the Hungarian 'leading' 6'3, 4'6, 4'6, 6'0.

It became a good contest betweem FAA and Sascha but Zverev faltered at crucial moments, had a break in the first two sets and his delivery does not always serve him well. Still a great win for Felix who took his chance! Shapovalov very convincing over Bautusta Agut! Certainly some battle with Khachanov overcoming Korda, though would have preferred it to go other way. Pretty straightforward for Djokovic and Federer.

Stinging loss for Denis, but incredible champions like Novak know how to edge tight matches. DS is one special talent and his game is perfect for grass. Plus time on his side. Definitely think he'll win it one day.

It's taken Djokovic to (just about) stop him. Andy did very well to make it respectable given he was exhausted going into it and had so much time away.

Djokovic takes it 6-3 in the 4th and certainly stepped it up to derail any Berrettini fightback, certainly a great achievement to earn 20th slam along with Federer and Nadal. Is it my imagination or is there more support for Novak than usual?

perhaps it's the typically British thing of finally getting to appreciate the talent. Undoubtedly he can be annoying, but which tennis player isn't. I can't think of one tennis player who doesn't have his faults on court. Even Del Potro who is the closest thing in my eyes to a gentleman on court, sometimes plays up his 'injuries' to get sympathy.
I think Novak's opponents get the support because people just want to see close matches.

Hawkeye
12-07-2021, 12:38
I think that, along the lines of what sutton was saying, the crowd have woken up to the fact that Novak will eclipse their darling Roger's achievements and are coming around to the fact that they are watching something that is unlikely to ever be surpassed.
