It's a bit unusual to post a thread for a player other than Andy in here - and I don't want to jinx Liam - but it's so good to see another Brit playing his heart out at the Olympics.
:GBflag:
Olympics R3: Liam Broady WR143, GBR will play Jeremy Chardy WR68,FRA.
The ATP H2H is Chardy 1-0 (https://www.atptour.com/en/players/atp-head-2-head/liam-broady-vs-jeremy-chardy/BI23/CA12) following their only main tour meeting in 2017 at Queens Club which the Frenchman won 6'4, 6'4. Chardy also beat Broady at the Surbiton Challenger a year later with slightly tighter score of 7'6(10), 6'3. Both events on grass obviously ...
So, this R16 match is in hot, humid, Japan on hard courts and it's a few years later with Liam starting to show some consistent form whilst Chardy has had a run of R1/R2 losses (including 2 to Brit Dan Evans!) in the last few months. His best results this year were in Dubai (QF), Rotterdam (QF) and Melbourne where he lost in the Semi-Final to Dan Evans again!
Methinks the Frenchman will want to beat the lesser ranked Briton very much indeed.
;)
Over to you Liam Broady ... no pressure! Maybe a phone home to Naomi for a tactical briefing on her Wimbledon Mixed Doubles partner???
:olympics:
PS. No idea yet when the match will be played.
There are quite a few R2 matches still to take place.
