Very disappointing for her.
Shame - not the way to start the year. Hope for better things to come.

Hope Judie makes the right decision about Anne K. in the Fed Cup. I watched her two years ago in the Fed Cup at Estoril and frankly while I wish her well on the ATP circuit if I was Judie, I would be really tempted to get Heather and Laura, presuming they are fit, into the squad alongside Elena if she starts the year well, and blood the younger generation asap, even at the risk of having a lack of short-term gain.
There - said it!

another tough day from a good start she lost to Michaella Krajicek 6-2 2-6 5-7
Sydney over for Anne
Sadly, it is typical of Anne to play a great first set and then fall apart

You got there first Linda....
I was watching Heather's result for a little bit after Andy's match and also got Anne's first set score, which quite amazed me considering whom she was playing. Was not surprised to see this.
And it is why I would rather get Heather and/or Laura in the Fed Cup even if they are young because when I watched Anne lose (badly) in the Fed Cup in Lisbon two years ago, I realised her nerves are just too much of a liability. Sorry but I like to be honest and I am going to be looking at who actually plays the Fed matches with great interest.
I totally agree with you, David. Anne is far too nervous to play in Fed Cup. I wonder if Tara will get to play a match?

I just hope Judy has the courage to be a new broom sweeping clean (Elena possible exception if she starts the year well) and risks early flak for possible negative results by giving Heather and Laura experience which, if they hopefully progress healthily up the top 100, will bode well for the future. It has been commented before that in many ways they have complementary tennis skills - one the fighter, the other the natural power, and that is not a bad thing for team members to encourage and mutally motivate each other.
I wonder if judy has any influence/power in deciding the team for the olympics, though of course maybe there will be no gb women qualifying so the point will be moot

From a purely logical point of view, you need the input of the Davis Cup and the Fed Cup captains when deciding who should represent GB at mixed doubles, surely? And if you take a sensible view that rankings is not the only consideration for national selection, when choosing singles players, you also need the respective captain to be involved in that decision.
Most Olympic sports have events such as World Championships or criteria such as minimum qualifying performances to select who gets to the Olympics.
It isn't just the top x ranked players, isn't it?
There are two differing factors here. Isn't it the case that a country can only have a maximum of three representatives per event (or is it four if you happen to having the reigning Olympic champion), so
does that mean that only three of Nadal, Ferrer,Almagro, Lopez and Verdasco or Tsonga, Simon, Monfils and Gasquest can be there?
Are there x vacancies, filled based on rankings but with exclusions such as the previous maximum?
Singles players may want the Olympic medal even if it is in doubles (think Federer and Warwinka...). HOw is that decided e.g. is there a weighting of singles v. doubles ranking (do you do the same as the ATP tour for example in terms of assessing ranking). Does that mean though that there could be three Spanish teams competing as all the previous five mentioned plus Granollers are in the top thirty - and Granollers is the highest ranked Spanish ranked doubles player).
Would love to know!
Last time each country had a team of up to four players. I seem to remember that they had to be chosen by rank, which was why Spain couldn't send their usual doubles team.

explains a little here, i also seen somewhere that to play in the mixed you have to be playing in one of the other forms ie singles or doubles and there is only one mixed team per country
Thanks J, that bears out what I thought. Maximum of 4 players (ie 4 ATP & 4 WTA) from each country. Based on rankings - mainly the singles rankings. Doubles-only players can only be included if in the top 10 doubles rankings (and they have a partner from the same country!). Which is why the Bryans could play last time but Lopez & Verdasco couldn't.

So pleased to see Anne playing so well! :cheer:
Anne is currently playing Radwanska. It is being shown live on Eurosport 2.
Qatar Anne has lost the first set 1-6 to Radwanska, Anne had more winners, but a lot more errors.
JAMES4578
15-02-2012, 13:15
Hopefully Anne can make more of an impact in the 2nd, come on!
So many balls in the net, James.
Well, well well Radwanska couldn't serve the match out at 0-5, Anne starting to let rip, gets the score to 2-5 and had a chance to break again, but her costly mistakes let her down. Radwanska wins 1-6 2-6

Well at least Anne got something going but a case of too little too late. However, hopefully can build on this and put in a better performance against a similar player the next time, but it was obviously a very tough assignment.

AnneK is playing a R1 match in Copenhagen.
Dropped serve so her opponent, Czink, is serving at *5-4 for the set.
And takes it to love, 6'4.

Anne fought back to win 4-6 6-2 6-3.

Great from Anne - I saw she lost the first set, then forgot all about it

AnneK's R2 match is up on livescore; she is up against Angelique Kerber of Germany, WR#15 (CH #14, 19/3/12).
This'll be a tough one for Anne.
Sallydaisy
12-04-2012, 13:11
Wow! First set 6'4 to Anne Keothavong!!!
Let's hope she can keep up the pace AND that Kerber doesn't find her range!
Sallydaisy
12-04-2012, 14:31
Despite a tough match (2) Kerber (GER,WR15) survives 4'6 6'3 6'3.
Shame for Anne because she kept battling to keep breaking back but fell away in the 3rd set.
A pity that Anne couldn't find a way through that one. I managed to catch some of the 3rd set.

A good effort from Anne, but still disappointing though it of course it was a tough draw!
Anne playing Zakopalova in Budapest - it's 5-3* to Anne in the first set currently
Anne gets broken back so it's 5-5*

Anne playing Zakopalova in Budapest - it's 5-3* to Anne in the first set currently
Now 5-5 ... Klara to serve next.
and yet another break, so Anne will serve for the set again!
Sallydaisy
30-04-2012, 11:20
Hope she can hold her serve this time!!!
hmm a df! Her first serve % is 37%!
And she's 15-40 down again.....
it's a tb!
Sallydaisy
30-04-2012, 11:27
6-6, tie-break.
Klara served first and it's on serve so far at 2-2
Sallydaisy
30-04-2012, 11:32
Anne now serving at 2-3
*2-4
*2-5 this is not good, dropped 2 of her serves.
2-6* and 4 set points to Klara
3-6* one saved ... a lot to do to turn this round though
*3-7
Zaka wins the first set 7'6(3).
Anne serves first in the 2nd set.
What a pity - Anne loses tb 3-7. Soooo close. If Anne could keep close maybe she could get the win.
I have to go out, so I'll miss the rest of this and also Heather's match in Estoril.
Hope for good news later :)
Sallydaisy
30-04-2012, 11:47
Anne holds for 1-0 to start the 2nd set and breaks to go 2-0.
Now her own serve is under pressure again at *0-30, 30-30, phew!
Come on Annie!!!
EDIT: holds for 3-0.
Sallydaisy
30-04-2012, 11:57
Klara held and then broke back so it's back on serve again and the Czech will serve at *2-3.
EDIT: but Annie breaks and holds and now the Czech is serving at *2-5
EDIT 2: Anne serving for the 2nd set at *5-3, had 2 set points but it's now deuce!
:sofa:
Ad Annie .....
She makes it - 6'3 in the 2nd set and onto the 3rd.
:phew:
Now I have to juggle 3 sets of livescores and get to the bank by 3pm.

30-04-2012, 13:04
Anne now serving at *2-5 to stay in the match having been broken in game 6 to go 2-4 down.
Over and out for AnneK in Budapest.
R1 loss to Kakopalova who took it 7'6, 3'6, 6'2
Just back. What a shame she couldn't take it.

Anne takes first set over Lucic in Strasbourg 6-2. Leading 2-1 in the 2nd , pushing for a break at the moment! Brits doing well today!
indeed - you got here before I did David!!
Anne was 4-1 up but Lucic has broken back so Anne is now 4-3*
DaveArneRiise

and now the match has disappeared - did one of them have to retire??
DaveArneRiise
22-05-2012, 13:51
and now the match has disappeared - did one of them have to retire??
Strange. I fear it may have been Anne as the momentum was shifting in her opponents favour. She was 3 games on the bounce so doubt she retired :(
DaveArneRiise
22-05-2012, 13:52
Great and Anne serving for the match!
and Anne has broken - she's serving for the match!
DaveArneRiise
22-05-2012, 14:02
Making a right old mess off closing out this match. Appears she could well get punished in this set. She hasn't been winning many matches recently so could be playing on her mind.
hmm Lucic serving for the set
DaveArneRiise
22-05-2012, 14:09
And she duly takes it, into a decider we go. Not looking good for Anne, very much let that set go. She should be in the locker room now with a W under her belt but not to be, fear for her in this decider.
DaveArneRiise
22-05-2012, 14:15
Oh dear broken in opening game of deciding set. Turning point was at 4-1 up in the 2nd set failed to capitalize on break points then at 4-2 she served 2 double faults to give the break. She'll be kicking herself if she doesn't win this one.
I have a bad feeling about this one
DaveArneRiise
22-05-2012, 14:33
After falling 2-0 down in the decider Anne won 3 on the bounce to lead 3-2. Lucic holds for 3-3. Roller coaster of a match this.
DaveArneRiise
22-05-2012, 14:44
So frustrating. At least make her serve it out Anne.
She does, 4-5 Lucic to serve for the match.
DaveArneRiise
22-05-2012, 14:51
15-0
30-0 Looks like curtains this
30-15 glimmer!
30-30 chance here
2nd serve coming up ...... DF 30-40 BP for Anne !
First serve from Lucic saves it Deuce
AD Lucic MP
2nd serve coming up can Anne stay in this match? Nope Lucic takes it GSM 2-6 7-5 6-4
Anne throw that match away. Should have wrapped up it up in the 2nd. She's having a terrible time of late, real confidence crisis it seems.
oh Anne what a dreadful shame
I've said it often before: Anne usually plays a great first set but then goes to pieces

Lost to burdette. Bad result. She has a load of points to defend soon.
have to say that on the surface that's a fairly shocking result, but don't have any further info.
david1610
11-07-2012, 17:20
I was working late so had it on in the background (Radio Tennis is covering the tournament).
Burdette (spelling?) plays for Standford Uni tennis team so was a (very!) local wild card.
Match started with five breaks, Heather held twice and that was it for the first set with Burdette never holding her serve. She then went into a 2-0 lead. in the second Seemed like a top hundred player was showing the distance between varsity and WTA tour level tennis, although the points difference was not as great as the score might have suggested.
Then she started holding and Anne didn't. I cannot judge for sure but it sounded like another goodish start was wasted.
Frankly she should have won 6-2 6-2, or something, but let the opponent break back, get some confidence, seize the momentum...

I heard tonight that the Romanian doubles pairing have withdrawn so Anne and Bally will also be playing doubles.
Would love Laura and/or Heather to get a wild card for the singles!
Would love Laura and/or Heather to get a wild card for the singles!
Wouldn't we all, esp as Hev's no 1 Brit now. One more win and Laura would be past Elena.
david1610
17-07-2012, 22:33
Next year I would be very surprised if the young ones weren't 1 and 2 in the rankings. Then it might get harder for Anne and Bally to continue playing - changing of the guard and all that...
Anne lost 6-1, 5-7, 7-6(9) to Erakovic in Dallas. She was awfully close having served for the match at 5-4 and held 4 match points in the TB on her serve. 13 double-faults proved costly.
Apparently there was a controversial call in favor of Erakovic (via @GBtennis).
Hope she does well at the US Open.
EDIT: Anne retweeted a lot of tweets about a doublefault on MP by Erakovic that wasn't called. Apparently, the ball was way out.
I also read something about her refusing to shake hands at the end. Definitely heartbreaking to lose such a close match on a bad call.
JAMES4578

Bit of a gutting loss and definitely looks like she got a raw deal. Let's hope for a reasonable draw at the US Open.
