I managed to switch to the postage-stamp sized Bet365 one in time to see the last point! Luckily I had funded the account with a fiver at the end of last year.
Wouldn't be the same without a Murraycoaster..................Well Done Andy!!!
10.30am it is then against Gilles.......so I have been tweeted!!!
Congratulations Andy :cheer: winning what was an entertaining match to watch and fair play to Kukushkin brilliant tennis at times.
Neil Harman tweeted near the end of the first set that there was a suggestion Andy's box was gesturing for him to retire. Doesn't seem likely.

Phew! At least he is not going to be headlining as AO favourite tonight!
Not sure he should be starting off so slowly, though. I realise it might be tough but the difference in class should be there at the business end of the first set. I hope to goodness moderate first rounds are not going to remain a permanent feature of his game because even though he should peak later in a tourney he should also be avoiding murraycoasters and giving guys too much hope.
Or am I being too fussy and the W is the W and up and onwards?
I only watched the first set as I had to start work but very pleased to log on now and see that Andy won! :yahoo: Nothing like a Murraycoaster to start the new seaseason! Andy will only get better from this point on I'm sure, first matches of the season are always difficult for all players.

tbo Kukushkin was a surprise today, started off like he just got out a hot bath! will keep a look out for him in future.
A win is a win can't be to hard on him at this early stage.
A think a bit of a Murraycoaster is a good wake up call for Andy.
Well done Andy! I was really worried after he start of 1st set! So phew! Murraycoaster
Hope for very few more of those 1st sets this season! Hope fitness wise he's ok. Bring on round 2!

I hope that the first set was just a bit of match rustiness & the seats will be a little comfier in Brisbane from now on!
Well done Andy, hope the knee and the niggles in your back sort themselves out.
Was worried behind the sofa for most of the first set, :sofa: ,however sets 2 and 3 were more relaxing to watch.

Seems that Todd Woodbridge's commentary was very anti-Andy according to a post on facebook from someone who watched the match in Australia. She hails from the Outer Hebrides and commented that he was so negative and making jibes about whether Andy was injured or pretending!! Perhaps AussieAndy can tell us more.
Sounds like it was a typical cobwebs removing performance from Andy....

well done andy.
was that lendl watching?
will have seen andy playing aggressively and too passively.
i thought a turning point was in the second set, andy held serve to make it 2-1, he was love30 down, and 30-40

Phew - so glad Andy came through in the end. He's never played Kushy before and Kushy it wasn't! Andy often makes a slow start when he's sizing up the opposition - at least it shows he takes nothing for granted. Must admit to some concerns for his physical state though - hoping he's just got warming up pains and not actual injuries to knee and back. He needs to be fully fit for the Oz Open. Would've been a bit embarrassing if he'd had to tell Lendl he'd lost a first round (for him) match, as the first thing he said to him after his first match since Lendl's appointment as coach!

I don't believe Andy would indulge in sportsmanship, but have to admit that when any other players have an injury time-out at a crucial moment my first thoughts are always suspicious! So can't really hold it against anyone querying Andy's motives even though I think they're wrong!

but, but, but on this site too we have said that andy is always wincing, holding his hip etc, the time to worry is when his leg drops off!

Unfortunately AussieAndy's TV does not have the right channel owing to stupid TV channel organisers, and so must watch livestream, and livestream froze just before Andy hit the winning shot (which I notice happened to a few other people here, and so no, AussieAndy does not know what was said in the interview or how it was said or anything. Very annoying, especially as last year we were at least able to watch the Brisbane even though stupid TV channel organisers shoved the Hopman onto an obscure channel. Now this year we can only watch the AO itself unless we go watch over at houses that are fitted for these obscure TV channel. Growl. Anyway, congratulations Andy, I gotta go to work.
