After a very straightforward win in R1, Andy will have a tougher R2 match on Tuesday.
He'll face 13th seed Frances Tiafoe (USA, WR51 CH29 in 2019).
Andy leads their H2H 1-0 after a win at Cincy-in-NY 2020.

The match is probably on Tuesday 24th August, time tbc.

Andy misses out on the tie break to give Tiafoe a tight 1st set.

Unfortunately Tiafoe takes it 7-6,6-3. Andy got 1 break back in the 2nd but that was after going 5-1 down. Obviously tight in 1st.

Don't know what happened in the 2nd set (following on FS); at one point it was 5-1 to Tiafoe and Andy then lost the set at 6-4. So off to New York we go; had hoped Andy would go beyond Round 2 here but Tiafoe is playing well right now. I remember being at my cousin's in the States some 5 years ago and reading articles where he was predicted to be the next best bet for US men's tennis; perhaps taken longer than expected but well timed for the slam.

Fell asleep after the first four games, and wakened up in time to see the last two points!! Sorry that Andy lost, but it was valuable court time for him.

So how did Andy look in this match? Going 5-1 down in the second sounded worrying?

Just read a report of his comments post match and he sounds very upbeat!!

So encouraging for Andy to be upbeat, sounds like no post-match issues. Nip and tuck with the very talented Tiafoe (who dispatched Tsitsipas at Wimbledon) is good, but much more importantly Andy heading into a 3rd consecutive event. Can't remember the last time he did thatm. Really, really hope he's beginning to turn a corner and finally get a good run of matches under his belt, god knows he deserves to.

I thought he looked good. Very close to taking the first set and also trying to come back at the end maybe showed he was still feeling good.

Only just finished watching the replay. Andy had his chances but so encouraging to see him moving so well, and caring enough to lustily berate himself! Although he too would have liked the W, he must still be pretty pleased with his progress. What I liked most is the respect and admiration Tiafoe has for Andy, and he makes no secret of the fact Andy is his idol. That warms my heart. Let's see now what the US Open has in store!

I've only seen the middle portion of the match but thought Andy was looking good. It felt similar to the match against Hubie...a tight 1st lost on the tiebreak then going down in the 2nd. Hoping that Andy will continue to rub off some his match play rustiness. He has played so little and with no long stretches of matches it's no surprise he is mot match tight. Physically he seems in a good place so long may that continue

Disappointing to miss one particular set point in first set. I thought he was moving much better though.
