Really looking forward to this. Another good match for Andy. He has always done well against tall big hitters, plus the conditions here will take some of the sting out of Sascha's power game. It will be about clever point construction and drawing errors. Sascha highly motivated to finally get the only big 4 scalp he's missing but Andy is Andy - never go against him in a spicy battle of wills (when he's fully fit). Best of luck to Andy, hope he puts in the kind of performance I think he's going to :cheer:

Heading for a decider.
typical
Not just a decider, a slow decider...
It's finally over! Get those kettles on for some caffeine, Andy time soon!

Come on Andy, make it worth the wait. Keep the ball around Sascha's skinny ankles and tie him knots out there! Let's go!

So they're make them into enemies before the match even starts
I thought they would have toilet breakers in common. I don't think Andy's comments in the past were personal, more in general.

Andy's level's dropped a bit though Zverev more into his stride, now down 5-3. Hopefully can make a bigger impact again.
Oh dear. Tracking it. Not sure I will manage to stay awake though.
First set to Zverev - 6-4

Andy strikes first in the second set to lead *3-1, need to avoid a repeat of set 1.

Delay for shoe lacing, has Zverev never laced his own shoes? Andy toilet break while waiting.
RosieBear

Delay did our metal Mickey no favours. Big let off for Sascha in that game. 4-4 :(
Broken. All over bar the shouting now. Zverev to serve it out

 Andy not getting up on his serve, hope just fatigue

Andy faltering there and not able to push up on serve , Andy will need some vulnerability on his serve to fight back I feel.

Andy's trying to shorten the points. Not hopeful sign.
Zverev wins 6-4, 7-6:sad:
Andy may not have won, but he gave a top five player a run for his money

A shame. Getting close hence Andy's frustration walking off court.

Ah well, Andy can't get the dream upset and tbh even if he'd taken it to a decider it did look like he was running out of steam. But a stellar performance by Andy. First, second round wins are great but it's the matches against the top guys that tell us just how close he is. Sascha's obvious nerves also an indicator of pressure he was put under. Just hope Andy starts coming out the right side of these tight matches with top players soon - he deserves to.

Exciting volleying exchange it but Zverev takes it 6-4,7-6 (7-4). Good effort from Andy and showed us impressive tennis against a top 5 player and the current Olympic champion, however ultimately he was not able to win enough of the key points. Unfortunately lost the early leads in both sets. Still positives movng forward and Murray's level has definitely improved lately.

Ok, he lost, and there were a few issues, but there were some absolutely stunning shots at times, proper vintage Andy, and he gave one of the current top players a really tough match.
He’s probably feeling disappointed, but I am so proud of him right now.
I heard, last night, he'd lost in straight sets. Then, when I got up, earlier, I read he's going to skip next month's Davis Cup: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/58894624

Having a lie in and watching what I missed. He ran the world #4 very close and kept fighting, especially coming back in the 2nd to force the tie-break. Hope he can finish the year going deeper in some of his upcoming tournaments and notch up a few points.
And as much match practice as possible.

" 'F**k': Furious Andy Murray's brutal one-word verdict after crashing out at Indian Wells to bitter rival Alexander Zverev - as the Scot concedes 'something needs to change' "
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-10086997/F-k-Andy-Murrays-brutal-one-word-verdict-crashing-Indian-Wells.html
Lol. Andy brutally honest as ever. He knows he deserves the wins against the top guys but isn't getting them. Doesn't matter how much fans look on the bright side after this type of loss, it's Andy who trains like a demon and sacrifices family time, and he's right something does have to change if he is to get the wins he wants and deserves.
I'm terribly disappointed for Andy, but not disappointed for me. Personally, I think he's come such a long way in recent months, it was always going to be a slow journey back and to get as far as he has (with all the bumps and hiccups on the way) is nothing short of amazing. He's nearly there, I do hope he will make that final push to get where he wants, and I think he will. He doesn't give up easily. The second set last night contained some fantastic tennis and when the disappointment fades, I'm sure he will recognise that. Perhaps all the hard work and sacrifice is about to pay off?

He definitely has come a huge way in recent months and he is so close.
It must be so frustrating for him.
But it feels like he can’t yet progress because he can’t beat these top players he keeps meeting so early on in tournaments and now his ranking has dropped even further!
What will this mean for him?

I do hope you're right, Pat, and I frequently remind myself that Andy, coached by Jamie D, did win Antwerp in '19, beating some big names along the way. But, increasingly, I see similarities to the '14 -15 season with Amelie; physically well-recovered from surgery but a frustrating ceiling to his results, matches getting away etc. Then, like now, rested on self-belief and I know many don't like to admit it but that has always been Andy's Achille's heel. We know how he turned it around extremely quickly in the 2nd half of '16. I would absolutely love to think he could play and win to his full potential alone (well with Jamie) this time, but given all evidence, past and present, I have doubts.

Absolutely. Best thing Andy could do.
I see why you think that and part of me agrees.
The other part worries that Andy’s hip issue was worsened by Lendl working him so hard fitness wise.
I agree he needs something extra but would Lendl even do it? we don’t know why they split when they did.

Lendl's a super smart guy, he could design training around Andy's new body. Sure a lot of stress went on the hip in 16, but mainly because he was going so deep in so many events - won everything in sight.
No idea if reuniting is even a possibility, just know Lendl brings the missing ingredient for Andy - belief and confidence in the biggest moments.

Andy obviously not feeling happy with his form and is going home to his family to regroup. The best thing he could do.
