Live tennis comes to Scotland - and it isn't Davis Cup.
;)
Scotstoun Leisure Centre is the venue (they must have lots of indoor courts!)
72 Danes Drive, Jordanhill, Glasgow, G14 9HD, Great Britain.
Tel: +44 141 276 1621
This is a combined Ladies and Mens Futures event.
Factsheet http://www.itftennis.com/mens/tournaments/tournamentfactsheet.asp?tournament=1100026019
Futures are a very different event to any main draw, Davis Cup or Wimbledon.
Usually played in Halls with 6 matches on simultaneously, there are quite often 2 rounds played per day (including qualifying) and from about 10am thru' to 6pm.
You can watch these events for FREE!!!
However, at best you'll probably get a chair somewhere on a walkway and perhaps a Cafe (attached to the Centre hosting the event). It's an idea to take provisions with you - and you never know but you might be watching the stars of the next tennis generation.
So, if you've chance go along and cheer the youngsters on - at least you'd be inside and warm!
Andy Murray had to start somewhere after all ........
;)
Mens Entry List - includes Sean Thornley, Lewis Burton, George Morgan, Chris Eaton, Richard Gabb, Toby Martin, Oliver Hudson and many other Brits.
Within the tennis world there are some fairly simple 'divisions'.
1. Grand Slams - 4 per year at the top of the game - run by the ITF (International Tennis Federation).
2. ATP and WTA events in 4 tiers
- Masters 1000
- 500
- 250's (and ladies equivalents for all)
- Challenger Tour (and ladies equiv) usually with players in the 100/300's
3. Futures events across the globe - separate or combined L&M - run by the ITF for players lower ranked.
+ of course Juniors and Davis Cup (both run by the ITF)
