Jamie Murray is back in his Tournament Director’s chair and bringing live tennis to Scotland with a special Battle of the Brits - Scotland v England event.
https://www.battleofthebrits.co.uk/
It's being held in Aberdeen, on the edge of the Arctic Sea, so pack your thermals.
;) :snowing:

Actually, it's at the P&J Live Arena so maybe your PJs? Thistle themed?
It promises to be a fun couple of days and a huge tennis boost ahead of Christmas.

Cam Norrie v Jack Draper

From Mike Dickson (https://twitter.com/Mike_Dickson_DM) on Twitter:
"Hearing that there's set to be a team change for next week's Scotland v England BOTB event - still due to go ahead - due to one of the players testing positive. Said player is reportedly suffering few symptoms."

Another twitterer (https://twitter.com/BarclayCard18)is asking if the event will actually go ahead ...
"Hiya,@BattleofTheBrit (https://twitter.com/BattleofTheBrit), can you confirm whether or not the event next week is taking place or not? People are flying from other countries for this so it would be great to have some clarity. Understand it's a stressful time but a statement would be great. Thanks in advance!"

Think a few who purchased tickets will have doubts though unlike some other events looks like it is still going ahead.

From Jamie Murray:
"As a result of the rising spread of COVID-19, @BattleofTheBrit (https://twitter.com/BattleofTheBrit) will be postponed. Obviously disappointing for the fans but what matters is keeping everyone safe. We’ve been blown away by Aberdeen’s enthusiasm for the event and looking forward to next year."

What a shame Jamie put so much effort into this.

I should think the tennis players need to keep safe too as it is just before the Australian Open.

I have to admit I am relieved - I was seriously doubting the wisdom of attending at this time - although very disappointed it is not happening.

Disappointing that circumstances require this to be cancelled- but am relieved. Had already decided it wasn’t worth the risk- but now I don’t feel I am letting anyone down. Now to hope the new dates fit in with term dates- this week next year we work right up to the afternoon of the 23rd.

Looking forward to this. was great fun at Roehampton last year at least I think that was when it was held. Losing track of time in my old age!!!

Really loved the Colin Fleming interview with Ian Holloway and Paul Lawrie after Dan Evans had won his match in straight sets.

That MTB between Andy and Draper was something else. This English girl was cheering the Scot :jitterbug:

Well, that was a super exciting tiebreak, wasn't it! So good to see Andy produce that magic. Also, Jack looking very promising. I wish them both all good things for 2023.

This event just goes to show what a crop of great players we now have. At one time a 'Battle of the Brits' would have mustered 2 or 3 decent players. Now we have a bunch of world class singles & doubles players, with some hugely promising young players to look forward to in the years to come.

Excellent event, just the timing was no good for me to attend live, but finished work today so will be tuning in to watch again tomorrow afternoon

Just catching up on the results - great to see Andy got the win - tomorrows a big ask for him with playing twice.
I’m Northern Irish so can be a floating supporter of where the fancy takes me! So basically wherever Andy plays I support him!

What a fantastic match between Andy and Jack. It was brilliant watching Andy rolling back the years to win it.

Not half! Forgot I was watching a exho it got so exciting. Made up for having to return my tickets due to dates not fitting school term. Well played both of them!

Some incredible tennis in the breaker and gutsy display from Andy to get the win, without reading too much into it some positive signs for the season ahead. Jack was great at times but probably felt a bit of pressure. Would still be a great experience for him though and the future should be bright. Felt Dan was going to win but a test from Aidan initially.

Aaahhh!! Skupski and Jubb were two points away from winning, when my phone rang. I then missed the interview.

I really thought Andy would copy what he did yesterday and come back and win the match.

Andy maybe feeling it a bit from the Draper match, a bit disappointing the way that ended but another tight one. Credit to Dan though. Jamie and Johnny also coming up a bit short, a bit of a fightback though Neal/Paul could have finished it earlier . Aidan McHugh needs a good performance against Jubb to keep this alive.

Stell

Jubb was too good against McHugh. I'm looking forward to the Murray brothers playing together.

JAMES4578
22-12-2022, 19:54
Disappointing display from Mchugh really even if Jubb was on song, outcome decided but hopefully the Murrays can salvage some pride.

Josh Berry was so funny in mimicking Jamie and Andy during the match. I hope Jamie and Andy will play together again in the future.

Andy/Jamie certainly turned it on to make the score more respectable, well done! England though won more of the tight matches and got on a roll earlier. Well done to all involved and it was enjoyable overall. Heard a few though say their viewing experience live was poor.

All 3 episodes or sessions can now be seen on bbc iPlayer for the next 28 days. I will probably watch those to see more of the court than was possible from our not cheap seats at the venue.

It was a great couple of days and it is so good that the younger players get to play with their idols and get help and advice. I felt very torn as I wanted Andy to do well but I am English and wanted England to win. Overall it was a fair result and very entertaining.
