Somewhere over the rainbow ... on another planet ... far far away ...
The announcement about the announcement didn't happen.
But there might yet be a Davis Cup event and Final sometime next year 2022
with top level Qualifying in March and the Final in November.
Although apparently the title World Cup of Tennis has been mentioned.
Plenty to discuss that's for sure.
Unless we get a wild card?
I was wrong ever to doubt the great Winnie...
GB receive a wild card straight to next year's Finals.

It's been met with some queries on Twitter:
Tumaini Carayol@tumcarayol· (https://twitter.com/tumcarayol)35m (https://twitter.com/tumcarayol/status/1467476996745748485)
Great Britain, a nation that really doesn't need any more help in tennis, receiving a second Davis Cup wildcard in three years is extremely questionable. Not to mention the fact that it is now the only chance for them to play Davis Cup at home
Mike Dickson@Mike_Dickson_DM· (https://twitter.com/Mike_Dickson_DM)36m (https://twitter.com/Mike_Dickson_DM/status/1467477135170363394)
Not quite sure why GB have got a wildcard into next year's Davis Cup finals ahead of Spain, for instance.

Monday 29th Nov: "ITF & Kosmos are pleased to invite you to the official announcement of the next host city of the Davis Cup Finals [on Sunday]"
Thursday 2nd Dec: Interesting development on the Davis Cup front. The scheduled announcement of the new host on Sunday (expected to be Abu Dhabi) has suddenly been cancelled. Told that a virtual announcement of the new Davis Cup host is now going ahead on Sunday afternoon. Organisers say that the original in-person media event was cancelled for Covid reasons.
Sunday 5th Dec: Organisers say they have a "preferred option" but won't give details on location as negotiations are... erm... ongoing
Latest update as of 14.00, Sunday 5th December 2021 (from Enrico Maria Riva)
Davis Cup Finals 2022: 4 cities to host Group Stage. Locations still TBC. Bidding process to start in January. Announcement expected in March. Neutral venue for Knockout Stage. Still TBC. “There is a preferred option that we are negotiating, announcement in next few weeks”
So, who knows where it'll be, it is an utter shambles.

"Car crash of a press conference from ITF's Haggerty and Kosmos's Rojas. Next year's host city for DC QFs, SFs and F cannot be named yet - despite the world's media being promised an unveiling as recently as Mon.
But it's not because of any opposition to Abu Dhabi, oh no..."
Reply from Stu Fraser (https://twitter.com/stu_fraser)
"Can’t say I’m confident about the Davis Cup’s future after that cagey and awkward half hour. Also, much made by organisers of this “World Cup of Tennis” tag line but today’s final not even deemed worthy by Eurosport of a slot on their two main channels on Sky (online only)."

I could live with this. Sadly it's never going to revert to the good old days of Davis Cup proper, so if one country is going to get it then there's far worse options than doable Bella Italia. Not sure I like their chances though, now Turin has ATP finals.
I think there's a determination to take it outside of Europe.

I hope not, Hawkeye. How about the LTA bidding for it for the next five years? I still remember the 02 Arena in Greenwich was sold out every year, when the ATP Finals were there. I should think at least some of us could turn up to watch it.

The draw for the group stage was to be Thursday 31 March. This is postponed to Tuesday 26th April. No reason given for the delay so I am wondering if they are waiting to confirm a location for the final stage in November.
Teams are currently placed in 4 "Pots" with the 4 seeds in Pot 1. Pot 2 has Germany Canada Italy and GB. The only definite info I can work out is that each host country will be in a different group (as you would expect) and each of four seeds will be in a different group. From this Canada must go in Spain's group and the seed in GB's group will be one of Croatia, France and USA.

BBC website talks of another player being added. We are almost spoiled for choice. I'd pick Neal as the other player, Leon can have then say to Dan & Cam 'it's time for you to live up to your rankings on the DC stage' and kept Andy for the doubles with Joe or Neal. He's then got Andy up his sleeve for the singles in case of injury or one of them doesn't have a good start. If Andy plays a singles then bring in the other doubles specialist, or even play Dan as he's doing well on that front, and he's got good hands.
The cynical among us :pirate: might think that Andy has only been added to sell tickets.
exislander

I will be surprised if Leon does not pick Neal who is now up to number 3 in the world doubles ranking and who has had some success partnering Dan quite recently.
He might still pick Jack. Joe and Neal play on the same side don’t they? So don’t play well together, although as exislander says, Neal and Dan played well together. But Andy or Dan both good dubs players and either could potentially partner Joe. We will see ….

I've got to go and see the dentist, again, next week. Firstly, GB were beaten by a much stronger pair in the vfoubles. K&M were able to nullify (for the most part) Andy's strength on the return by good service placement and intercepting. We haven't seen the best of Joe so far, I think the slow surface doesnt help, his timing on the return seemed off and his lack of power on the serve has been noticeable. I also feel Andy and Joe haven't really gelled so far, at times Andy has been carrying a nervous looking Joe. V disappointed with Dom yesterday, his game I so one dimensional, after the opening couple of games VDZ was in complete control. Finally, the lack of numbers in the Barmy Army meant they were rather quiet at times, thankfully the more 'senior' supporters more than contributed towards the support

I think Joe feels intimidated playing with Andy. Normally Joe's the best in any partnership and knows he can hold his own with any doubles player , but of course Andy is Andy. Then when Joe's tight it affects Andy who is not at peak confidence. I noticed this at the Olympics when they gifted the match to the Croatians (Dodig and Cilic). I absolutely love Joe, as an individual he's the best doubles player bar none, but for sixth sense gelling as a team you can't beat Andy and Jamie.

So frustrating that it came down to the doubles once again. Cam should have won his rubber and I blame him for the loss. When you consider how years ago players like Dan and Wardy played lights out matches against higher ranked players he was pretty poor. He's No 8 in the World but for all that he seems to lack the fire and commitment when playing for GB.

Joe shouldn't be intimated just by playing with Andy. He ought to draw confidence knowing Andy's on his side of the net. They should both be able to work out how to use each other's (different) skills to get the best out of each other. But it hasn't happened and AM looks like a singles player trying his hardest on a doubles court (which he is), and not a natural doubles player (which he isnt)
GB has a number of great doubles players, but they don't play together. as Davis Cup always does come down to the doubles perhaps Leon could organise a bonding/testing session, including Jamie, maybe at a Battle of the Brits, for him to try out the best pairings for matches next year.
you might say GB has the equipment but doesn't know how to get the best out of it - i am having to buy a book to learn how to use my Smart phone!

That was a brilliant match. Only thing that wasn't brilliant was the result. So sad for the team.
Yes it was a great match! Sounded like a great atmosphere too.
It would have helped if Cam had won his match.

Couldn't agree more. I wasn't impressed with him during the National Anthem

Netherlands win both singles so will top the group. All round, the best team of the week.
But he was good in Serbia and Dan took recreational drugs banning himself so we all had to suffer. I couldn't blame anyone.
Cam didn’t even play in Serbia, it was Kyle!
As for the Dan comment, I think that is really uncalled for … sorry but I just have to say how I feel, I’m a big fan and will defend him to the hilt as everyone on here would no doubt do for Andy.
Those days are long gone for Dan. It was a LONG time ago, a lifetime for the player he is today. He made a mistake, paid for it and no one has worked harder to get back to and exceed his previous top ranking. He had no help to do this and didn’t ask for any. He is now the ultimate professional who admits that his ban changed him as a person and as a tennis player. He fights for every point, plays with passion, and is the ultimate cheer leader on the GB bench. He really, really does not deserve that old chestnut being dragged up.

It's taken me all day to recover from that loss last night. Cam really did not perform well yesterday which was such a shame after Dan got the tie off to a flyer. As ever the dubs was a fabulous match though very nerve wracking. Andy was just loving it when they won that 2nd set TB. So close but the Dutch team were really good. A bit of a heartbreaker of a match. Will be back tomorrow to cheer on the boys again.

Rather like Kyle, the passion and commitment you see from some players seems lacking in both of them, but if it's not in your nature to scream and shout, then they should just be themselves.

I deleted my prior comment. I agree that Dan is a reformed character and I always enjoy watching him play. That was not my point. My point was: mistakes happen but we don't turn on our players. I have been shocked by words like 'blame' used re Cam. The fact that he "should have' won as he is a higher ranked player could also be used for Joe. I've never seen the word "blame' used before. It's frustrating but not a given that the higher ranked player will win, we all know that! Also not singing the national anthem is not a crime - many in the stadium were also keeping quiet but the camera is not on them and their feelings are not discussed afterwards. It's Leon's job to pick the players and he picked Cam. He won one, Dan won one, Joe and Andy lost two. That's the maths re why we are not progressing.
I admit I have used the word ‘blame’ re: Cam but somewhat in jest which doesn’t come over in the written word. Cam’s loss was frustrating as he is top 10 and played badly, just didn’t show up really … but it happens, it happens to all players at some point in their career. Just really disappointed as I fully expected (maybe stupidly) that we would win that Netherlands tie. We have the strongest team ever …
Maybe we should just blame the Americans and the Dutch!! ;)
Andy and Cam are playing the singles today, and Joe and Neal the doubles. Best of luck to all of them.:thumbup:
Play starts at 2.00pm

I'm with Jane, it's the Americans and Dutchs fault - they've been outstanding and just snatched the wins. A shame, and I'm mostly disappointed for Andy - like he says he doesn't know how many more chances he'll get - but these things happen and I hope everyone in Glasgow still manages to enjoy today's match.
It's a team event, so they win or lose as a team. Dan and Wardy are lucky, they always thrive under DC conditions but most of the other players have good ties and not so good ties. Cam did beat RBA from 2 sets down away on clay for his debut!

Hopefully can get the win in the Doubles with Norrie going down to Bublik 6-4,6-3. Alex having a good day and 6th top 10 win but Cameron did not appear to have the same fighting spirit. Dan though lost one match this week. Andy started slowly but convincing enough in the end.

So happy for Andy that he won that! Now come on Joe and Neill!!
I don’t want us to come bottom of the table but I was more worried about Andy’s match :yahoo:
Dan must be the best cheer leader ever, yes? :GBflag:
Great doubles match, yet again. Well done Joe and Neal. That was some fight. Shame there's no trip to Malaga at the end of it. All to play for in the qualies next year.

That was tight and a bit nervewracking, however Joe/Neal stepping up to get over the line, well done! Glad at least one win though obviously bit of blow not to make Malaga.

Disappointing to miss out on the finals by such small margins. It’s been great here in Glasgow with some excellent, if nerve-wracking matches, the most fantastic atmosphere, amazingly loud and friendly support from the small groups of travelling fans and finally a hard fought win to send us home with a smile. Thanks to all the AMFF group - it’s been lovely to get reacquainted. Hope you all make it home safely and here’s to the next time.

Absolutely buzzing! Had the best day! Fabulous to meet up with Forum friends and be part of our very special cheer squad. Nice to have all the groups together. Suchan exciting finish. And of course ... Andy playing singles. In my home city. Heart bursting! When they changed the DC format I never thought I'd experience days like today again. So it made it all the more special to appreciate it once more. Thanks to all who were there, was such a lovely atmosphere. And thanks of course to Sally for making it possible - and Caro for hanging on to my t shirt til today. Here's to us all - always believing that we will win! (how I'd missed that chant!)
So we are likely to play qualifiers in February unless we get another wildcard so here is a list of potential opponents, though I'm not sure on home/away ties:-
Sweden, Argentina, Serbia, Korea Republic, France, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Italy/USA, Germany/Canada, Australia/Netherlands, Spain/Croatia, Austria, Colombia, Czech Republic, Uzbekistan, Switzerland, Chile, Portugal, Norway, Hungary, Slovakia, Finland or Bosnia % Herzegovina.

Hope to see you all again.
An amazing day! Dead rubber? … what dead rubber?!! Such a great atmosphere and fight from the team. Andy’s win was so emotional and the doubles was amazing. So glad we got the win. The team and supporters needed that. Feeling so much better than on Friday. Would have liked a trip to Malaga of course but we’ll be back next year to try again. LET’S GO GB, LETS GO! Thanks to all in Glasgow for a fantastic few days xx

'One sock, you've only got one sock', and 'where's your other sock'. Priceless. Don't think I've ever seen a player more relaxed on court than Bublik, he was obviously enjoying himself. I was looking forward to seeing an underarm serve but he didn't try one.
I really hope that Andy does get selected for Davis Cup in future because he is an asset to our team.
I know Jack Draper is improving rapidly so I do understand that getting selected isn't going to be easy as it is hard to drop Dan, Cam, Joe and Neal so maybe Andy could go as the hitting partner.
Anyway, it's a while until we find out of we get another wildcard and if not, who we play in Feb qualifiers. We have to wait until the last week of November or first week of December for that info.

Suspect GB will get wildcard again as it is all about making money for Kosmos, however...
Assuming the 2 wildcards for the 2023 finals are from high-ish ranked nations and assuming no nations move between being seeded & unseeded then this is what I think the possible opponents in the qualifier would be:-
Austria (A)
Colombia (choice of ground decided by lot)
Chile (A)
South Korea (choice of ground decided by lot)
Hungary (A)
Slovakia (A)
Finland (H)
Bosnia Herzegovina (choice of ground decided by lot)
Uzbekistan (A)
Norway (choice of ground decided by lot)
Portugal (A)
Switzerland (H)

Hi Cazza, I think I went onto Google on my Samsung tv and there was somewhere on the site which allowed me to add the channel to my first page.
Thanks. I have managed to get it eventually on my old firestick :)
The Firestick lite I bought a year ago showed the app in the appstore after doing an update but says unavailable and won't download.
Don't think I have google on my Samsung TV. Will check.

I think there should be an internet link/app which can be used to get to google, then when you search for a web page you can save that page by clicking on the dots in the top right hand corner. If your tv can

On paper we should come through as they 'only' have Galan in the singles plus a player not inside the top 300. But they do have Farah & Cabal who must be confident of winning the doubles. So who plays the singles will be interesting, and who wants to travel after the Aus Open will be even more interesting. I cant's see AM being the first name on the teamsheet, it's not Dan or Jack's best surface, and Cam wasn't at his best in Glasgow.
If none of them, turn up, we've still got other players who are higher ranked than Galan. So, I would hope we would win it. I hope to go to Glasgow, later this year, but it would depend on when it'll be played there and when my blood test and bone injection will be.

if none of the four listed players make the trip, the next best is Peniston at 153 and Broady at 167. And do any of our players really enjoy playing on clay ? I think they'd all avoid the tie if they could !

The World Cup was mentioned several times by the commentators. It was also written on something!!!!
It was originally called the International Lawn Tennis Challenge Trophy
