Andy is into his 69th career Final - and he's won 46 of them to build his title haul.

He'll face Aslan Karatsev, WR20, who had a stellar year in 2021 having found his form in his late 20's - he's still playing very well. Still only has 2 titles to his name though - and he's had a late finish against Dan Evans who kept him out on court for over 3 hours.

Their H2H is 0-0 (https://www.atptour.com/en/players/atp-head-2-head/andy-murray-vs-aslan-karatsev/MC10/KC56) ... so yet another steep learning curve for Muzzah!

The match is scheduled n/b 7pm local, that'll be 8am UK time.
We can watch it over breakfast ...
;)

Good news folks, the BBC are going to show this Final on BBC Red Button, iplayer and app.

Britain's Andy Murray reached his first ATP Tour final since 2019 with a three-set win over Reilly Opelka at the Sydney Tennis Classic.

The 34-year-old fought back from a set down to beat the 25th-ranked American 6-7 (6-8) 6-4 6-4.

Murray let out a roar of triumph after converting his first match point.
Compatriot Dan Evans was unable to set up the first all-British final at ATP Tour level after losing to Russian top seed Aslan Karatsev in the semi-final.

Saturday's final will be shown live on BBC iPlayer, red button and BBC Sport website and app from 0800 GMT.

Knowing the Beeb, they'll have bought it thinking it would be an all-British final.

I don't care why they bought it!! The important thing is that they did!

A while to wait yet, the women’s final is midway through the deciding set.

The ladies are into a MTB to decide the 3rd set and match.
After which presentations so we've probably got 30mins to go before Andy plays.

Think it was an standard tie break at the end of a 6-6 third set, but it's over now.

Yep. Very important to hold there and as you say, time for Andy's tennis brain to be whirring away. C'mon Andy!

Sallydaisy

First serve back in action, Andy holds for 1-2.
Karatsev clearly has an attacking game plan for this match.

He really has come from nowhere over the last 18 months.

Andy in his prime would have struggled to break serve the way Karatsev is playing so far. Having said that, he'd probably have found a way.

His opponent won that set rather than Andy playing badly. Those winners... this is going to need Andy's tennis brain to go into overdrive. C'mon Andy!

I think Andy's a half step slower than earlier in the week and possibly those 3set matches haven't helped. He's missing shots that he was making easily before.

However, I'll not write him off yet in this match!

Absolutely. Karatsev won that. Andy did not lose it. And he pushed him to the limit. Glass more than half full! Thank you Andy.

Andy could have done with more first serves.

So gutted. Andy might not have played his absolute best but Karatsev's game is high quality and I really did not like the match up. He plays extremely similarly to our Emma Raducanu - aggressive returns on 1st and 2nd, although not big easy power by taking ball so early, and most devastating of all the ability to change direction very easily; making anticipation and defending the court, Andy's great strength, nigh on impossible. Peak Andy would probably have got the break and wiggled through but who knows, would still have been 50-50. It's incredibly difficult to unpick this game style, no fluke nobody could even get a set off Emma, and puts oppo under constant pressure. So sad to see Andy fall victim to this model of game but it bodes well for Emma's future once she is more consistent in her execution.

I thought Murray looked flat for over a set. He needs to be more aggressive to stop being pushed back, - Karatsev was hitting winners for fun. It'll be interesting to see how he does in the AO.

AK won the match.
AM won the crowd. (and the speech)
So impressed with the level of support for Andy. Onwards and upwards to the AO.

Dan served better and is a naturally more front foot player than Andy. The only way to deal with Karatsev the aggressor is to be the aggressor yourself. Dan did well from back of the court but it was first strike tennis that kept him close - good serves, s&v etc. Also good variation - some wicked slices. Still wasn't enough tho, Karatsev's game is so efficient only massive servers will slay him on these courts, which he loves (AO semi finalist last year, let's remember)

Whilst obviously Andy done great to reach the final still a bit disappointed he could not do enough today, however obviously Karatsev played very well though and likes these courts. obviously had chance to break back in 2nd and some great tnis n that game but ultimatelyt did not prevail. Pity did not have bit of a better start, though I think he needs in more proactive in encounters like trhis.

Still in the scheme of things positive moving forward and hopefully he can make some changes during the season with new coach.

Yep, agree with all that. He was hitting depth better & his backhand slice is one of the best. Murray can play more aggressively, I don't understand why he doesn't, - I think it has to become his default.

I read earlier that. Win would take Andy into the top hundred. So close, but not quite there. Let’s hope the draw gives him a chance of ranking points.

Well I was happy that Andy got to the final and has been moving well. There was just no stopping Karatsev, no matter how hard Andy tried, just not meant to be this time. The crowd were magnificent and that must have helped Andy immensely. Karatsev handled that aspect well.
I hope that he hasn't pushed himself to much this week and is ready for the minimum 3 sets he will have to play each match.
Time will tell, just happy he is back playing in Australia.
