View Full Version : AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2022, LADIES SINGLES AND DOUBLES - Main thread
Here's the draw (https://ausopen.com/draws#!womens-singles).
Tough start for Emma Raducanu, she draws Sloane Stephens.
Heather Watson gets Mayar Sherif of Egypt.
Tough draw for Raducanu.
Her opponent Sloane Stephens got married very recently - around 12 days ago - not sure if that will have affected her preparations for the Oz Open.

Certainly is tough for Emma, hopefully Sloane will not have one of her better days but a challenge regardless.

Defending Champion Naomi Osaka is out in R3 at the Australian Open.
Her ranking will drop into the 80's apparently!
Amanda Animisova beat her in 3 sets with a very tight 3rd CTB to 10.
4'6, 6'3, 7'6 (10-5).
There are some very interesting matches in the Ladies Draw coming up!
Heather out of the ladies doubles.

Some drop for Osaka but suppose has not played a great deal, tight one with Animisova and a few losses at this stage in big events (though did have match points). Obviously though had issues to deal with and hopefully will feel less pressure in due course.

Barty a bigger favourite with both Sabalenka and Halep going out, would be popular winner though. Both Krejcikova and Swiatek yet to take a set from her, though only played a few times.

Good to see Maddy getting back to her best form. Should really have won the US open but had more nerves than Sloane on the day in 2017

Yes, good to sees Keys finding form again. Going to be tougher for Barty than today. Should be a good contest.

Sadly Barty is just steamrolling Keys, took the first set 6'1 and the second 6'3 to seal her place in the Final. Jo Durie came up with a new word for tennis fans ... hesitight. (hesitant and tight ... happens to the best of players!)
And now Collins is steamrolling Swiatek.
Well they were a bit short.

Certainly Ash on a mission, hopefully the final with Collins is a bit more competitive but only really see one winner.

First set Barty 6-3 was 1-5 in second now 5-6.
Tie break to Barty - very well done!
Lovely touch to have Evonne present the trophy.

Maybe not her best tennis overall but some fabulous tennis from Ash in the important moments and finished with a flourish, well done! Danielle Collins certainly tested her in the 2nd but will rue not capitalising on that big lead when the ocassion got to Barty somewhat. Nonetheless pretty likely Ash would have come through had it gone to a 3rd and a worthy winner.:clap: Yes great to see Evonne presenting :clap:
