hope he avoids the 'tiring first round, quick defeat second round' that has happened recently.

Indian Wells ATP Masters 1000: (WC) Andy will play a qualifier in R1, with the winner to play no. 31 seed Alexander Bublik KAZ WR 33 (CH 30 last month) in R2.
That qualifier could be Liam Broady, who has just won his FQR.

How is Djokovic in the draw?
He didn't officially withdraw, as he could have done, so they had no choice but to include him. However, it's yet unclear whether he'll be able to enter the US or participate at Indian Wells. See article below.

BBC (https://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?5362-INDIAN-WELLS-Masters-2022-10-20th-March&p=309525#post309525) - Novak Djokovic in draw for Indian Wells Masters
That qualifier could be Liam Broady, who has just won his FQR.
It could also be Taro Daniel if he wins the last qualifying match.
In a way not so good news for Andy to play a qualifier as they will be on form and have had a few rounds on the surface.

And the winner of that part of the draw is likely to play Djokovic or the player replacing Djokovic in his absence.

It won't be Djokovic ...
Novak Djokovic@DjokerNole·1m
While I was automatically listed in the @BNPPARIBASOPEN and @MiamiOpen draw I knew it would be unlikely I’d be able to travel. The CDC has confirmed that regulations won’t be changing so I won't be able to play in the US. Good luck to those playing in these great tournaments
... Dimitrov moves into Djokovic's spot in the draw
Djokovic has withdrawn from Indian Wells - his name has been removed from the draw.
If Andy wins his first 2 rounds then it is in his favour that Nole pulled out late.
It could also be Taro Daniel if he wins the last qualifying match.

Fantastic performance from Monfils to beat Medvedev and get his first win over a no 1 since beating Rafa in 2009.
Gael plays Alcaraz in the next round, cannot wait, talk about a popcorn match. Hope it's at a watchable hour, that said, worth getting/staying up for.

Monfils inspired today and produced some excellent shotmaking, got the balance right this time. Medvedev though a bit out of sorts in the 3rd. Should be exciting with Alcaraz!
Well done Cameron. Beat Basilashvili 3-6 6-3 6-1.

Another good win for Cam. IW is love or hate, nice that Cam's in the love camp and does so well here. A serious challenge awaits in Alcaraz though, oof.

Same - love him! He is absolutely blistering, just dynamite. Most exciting next gen by far. Plus a total sweetie when interviewed.

Disappointing Cameron could not make it more of a contest but thought it would be a challenge. Nadal/Kygrios was a long match but felt Rafa pretty much had the upper hand anyway.

Cam was a break up several times but could not hold on to the lead. He was maybe slightly hampered by a hip issue, having a MTO during set 2 but there were many incredible points played by both.
The result belies the quality of Cam's match. 1 hour 44 mins gives a better indication. But there's no doubt Alcaraz is going to be the one to beat going forward. Stunning player.

Absolutely agree about Alcaraz pabbers. I know Cam’s British but I much prefer Alcaraz to watch

Nadal 1-1 v Alcatraz.
In windy conditions the older Spaniard 'leads' 6-4,4-6

Nadal won in the end 6-4,4-6,6-3. Just one break in 3rd as Nadal broke for 5-3 and served it out in 3 hours and 12 minutes , some tricky conditions and tough battle but Rafa more consistent, some great winners from Alcaraz though. Will face Fritz in the final who put out Rublev 7-5,6-4.

Swiatek vs Sakkari 8 pm
Rafa vs Fritz not before 10 pm.
Fantastic final set between Nadal and Alcaraz. Supporting Rafa but I really love watching Alcaraz and I am convinced he will be very big time very soon

Doubts being raised about the Final tonight. Taylor Fritz had an ankle issue at the end of his SF and didn't complete his practice session this afternoon after concerns about it were raised.
JAMES4578

Nadal with more of a physical issue at the moment(his back), Fritz takes first 6-3 (3 breaks to 1) , Rafa just gone off court for treatment.

Nadal not able to play his standard consistently but still some great play from Frtz, well done! Rafa did step up in the 2nd and at 5-4 with two serves in breaker looked like he might take it to a decider but a few inspiring points from Taylor over 20 minutes after the 1st championship point. Certainly some exciting exchanges in the 2nd! Proved to be a match too far for Nadal but had such a strong start to the season. Obviously Fritz done so well to recover from situation this morning.

Well done Taylor Fritz!!!!!
:trophy:
It takes quite a player to beat Rafa Nadal in a Final anywhere ... and given they both had minor injury niggles I thought this match might end up in a walkover! Perhaps the SF against Alcaraz took it's toll on Rafa but he kept fighting - as he always does.

Good. Fairly indifferent to Fritz but had enough of Rafa dominance, though the AO was very inspiring. Just pleased this deathly dull event is over - bring on Miami!

Yes, to be fair, Monf and Alcaraz can make anywhere exciting. Wish I'd been able to see more of them. But on the whole I'm like Andy - just can't take to the IW event.

So did I, I enjoyed a lot of what I saw.
The problem I have with Indian Wells is the time difference as many of matches are in the middle of the night UK time. At least there will be an some extra hours of UK awake time in Miami.
