A little ahead of yourself there, Sally - just round of 16 ;)
Just started. The Rio Gold Medalist appears to be 5:2 up.

Andy looking more confident today against Bublik
Now 2:1 up in second. Can he hold to 3:1?
Lots of bad language and muttering. Never a good sign!
Don't do it then Mrs P...
Looks like Bulbik has woken up….,
Yep. AM broken. How quickly it’s turned round.
Don't do it then Mrs P...
Andy's making poor decisions.
He needs to wake up again and do it fast.
Lovely not to have commentators droning on! He made hard work of that game.
Finally held after brutal game. 5:3
3 break back points.
Only needed one.
Can he hold now?

And breaks back!
Thankfully Bublik gave him that game on a plate.

Bublik is doing his share of muttering at times - but I don't understand a word of it.
Both breaks in this set have been Bublik's serve disintegrating. Means there's always hope of it happening again.
I can't imagine there's a queue of Coaches at Bublik's door. Brilliant or stupid, - not a lot inbetween.
I hate tiebreak- yes I know I have said it before…!!!
How are you holding up Teresa? My nails need renewing.
I am half hiding and half peeking. My iPad has decided to crash. So badly is the answe…!!!
Andy gets a mini break for 5-3*...
2 match points! First one on Andy's serve...
Excellent tie break. Thank goodness I wasn’t up to a 3rd set.
Yesssss! Vintage Andy putting us through the wringer!

Good, good. Didn't watch but that scoreline against that oppo suggests he's beginning to purr nicely and is getting what he wants from these warn up events.
Likely to be the #1 seed Tsitsipas next. Next match on.

Well he was 2-5 down in that second set and made some poor decisions at key moments. But phew.......
Well done Andy :cheer: :cheer: - good on-court interview too.
Nice on-court interview, - 'diplomatic' about Bublik's tactics. :big grin:

But still won it. As they say, managing to find a way even when not playing A+ is a confidence builder. Good for Andy. Not so much for his poor fans :nailbiter:

Whilst not best performance a gritty display the way Andy came back in the 2nd, was really looking like a 3rd. Thought Bublik would have taken advantage in that 5-2 game mind you.

Great win for Andy on his efforts to return to the top ranks. Bublik is a tricky player, mentally as well as physically.

The match in Andy's words:
‘I played big boy tennis. He’s predictable in his unpredictability. I felt I played well towards the finish. I feel good, I moved well on the court and hopefully I can play better tennis towards the weekend.’

So glad he won - I thought his game was falling apart in the second set then suddenly he pulled himself together and won the set and the match.
An important win mentally I think. I think he’s low on confidence - he repeatedly and loudly kept telling himself “keep following the plan Andy, you’re doing the right thing”.
I’ve never ever heard him say this like that so often - I was alarmed tbh because he sounded so like he needed lots of reassurance.
What did the rest of you who watched it think?

I wasn't too sure if some of his muttering about doing the right thing was sarcasm?
But yes he did pull himself together. I feel he's great physically but mentally he's lost some of his court and match savvy. Hope it'll come back quickly.

I didn't watch the match so can't comment from that perspective, HG. I could have watched but chose not to. I'm avoiding the warm-up events as much as possible. With all the absent and weakened players Andy will probably never have a better chance of another major win than this Wimbledon. I can't bear the thought of any slip ups now. Of course he has to try and focus on one match/event at a time but that's easier said than done and he probably is feeling a bit anxious. I think he'll be fine once Wimby gets here, but just imagine how he's feeling, what he's thinking and hoping for, especially after seeing old man Nadal win 2 this year. He wouldn't be human if he wasn't absolutely yearning to seize the opportunity that's arisen this Wimbo.

Also interesting to see how many above Andy have been put out in Stuttgart.
