I was waiting for the rain to stop, in Nottingham, when I heard about Sue Barker would be retiring as the presenter after this year's Wimbledon. I wonder who'll take her place: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/61751601

Peter Fleming has said that if Andy is fit and plays to recent standard only 3 players have a better chance to win Wimbledon - Novak, Rafa and Berrettini. Puts Andy 4th fave, basically. I agree. I so hope he's okay, a huge opportunity is round the corner.

Sebastian Korda out of Wimbledon with shin splints and injured feet. Needs to rest and recuperate. Lucky loser in. Not terrible news. I'm normally a good sport but this year the gloves are off and I'm all for whatever helps Andy in the draw, especially as more injury bad luck left him unseeded.

Cos mens doubles always played best of 5 sets and other 3 slams decided make it shorter. If mens singles best of 5 then mens doubles should be best of 5 too. For now Wimbledon keep best of 5.

I get the history, tradition, always done it that way. But tennis has changed hence the other slams all play best of three. Doubles is a lot more physically demanding than 'back in the day'( I LOATH that phrase) and the ATP/LTA/GS organisers want to attract more top names into doubles, but then Wimbledon force them to play best of five. Players could play two best of fives in a day. Which challenging singles player would agree to that. They've managed uniformity on fifth set tb, they should do the same with the doubles length.

I do understand they want more top singles players in doubles but doubles meant be full time tour doubles players and best of 5 sets usually fine for them. I understand it is tough for singles players play doubles when it also best of 5 too. That their choice. Doubles meant be full time doubles players and should keep best of 5 sets and it only happen once year! Rest of time they play best of 3 sets everywhere else.
Plus: Grand Slams suppose be hard to win anyway.

I’ve always kind of liked him, although right now I’m not sure why. He’s such a talented player but behaves like an out-of-control toddler, throwing a tantrum in a supermarket. If he could only control himself, and not behave like a <bad word> then he could go far, but he never will unless he can get all these chips off his shoulders.
Go Stef!
I think it is all rather entertaining. Tsitsipas is misbehaving too - he shouldn't be hitting balls into the crowd and hitting balls hard at his opponent.
Something going on between Sonego and Rafa at the net at the end of their match. (Rafa winning 6-1 6-2 6-4). They had supervisors on there too.
Rafa complaining about Sonego making noises during points.

Rafa complaining about Sonego making noises during points.
If Rafa meets Kyrgios in the semis (Lord help us), he'll be dreaming of just a few noises during points.
No question that Tsitsipas should have been defaulted IMO. The fact he didn't hurt anyone has to be irrelevant.

It was all happening with Kygrios and Tsitsipas, drama but not necessarily all we wanted to see. Entertaining tennis also on show though, they were both misbehaving but Nick generally on another level.

That match didn't cover the sport in glory, which is a shame as when they got around to actually playing there was much to enjoy. Hard to say who behaved the worst, Nick or Stefanos, but Nick just edged it for me. Felt like he baited the bad behaviour out of Tsitsipas, who should have known better than to rise to it. It also felt to me like the crowd enabled & encouraged Nick's bad behaviour. Certainly was a drama but I'd rather they let their tennis do the talking
The crowds haven't needed much encouragement to misbehave this year. They are almost behaving like football crowds.

I've noriced that and it's not just Wimbledon, all the GS have had issues with constant fan interruptions, loud shrieks if a ball goes anywhere near the line. I don't expect library rules but I do think behaviour could be better, and stewards could get involved more.
Tennis making headlines for all the wrong reasons this morning, sadly.
No question that Tsitsipas should have been defaulted IMO. The fact he didn't hurt anyone has to be irrelevant.
From what I can see in the rules the most he should have had in the circs was a warning for the first one. I couldn't feel sorry for Tsitsipas given his own reputation for gamesmanship. As for Kyrgios, combine his brilliant tennis and his outlandish behaviour and I can't help thinking he's on a spectrum of some sort? Can't seem to control outbursts and even his interview was slightly odd.

Tennis making headlines for all the wrong reasons this morning, sadly.
That to me is the key outcome from last night. How much longer will the ATP allow Nick to play the pantomime villain role, (answer, as long as tennis gets the headline on front and back pages), how much longer will they allow their staff (umpires) to be constantly berated and their judgement questioned, and will both players get away with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. I'm amazed Nick thinks his abuse of the umpire was just ' a bit of back and forth'.Methinks tennis players are a little too full of themselves

There's probably some PhD research in it for someone. Sat on Centre Court 3 days this year and observed behaviour I've not seen before at Wimbledon including someone vaping in the stand (steward did spot them and told him to stop) and a man getting up to go out in the middle of a point -even though he was quite near the court. The steward told him off but by then it was too late. Also had people in the hospitality seats directly behind me talking throughout play (not even about the tennis but I do now know all out their shares portfolios). This was not addressed by the stewards even though the gangway entrance was right by us, so they must have been aware. I did turn to ask the talkers to shush but they just glared at me and carried on. You can't buy good manners

I noticed it too on centre court on Thursday. Phones ringing and beeping, as well as people talking. Too many hospitality and freebees for people who just want to say ‘I was at Wimbledon yesterday’, in my view.

You have to feel a bit sorry for Novak. He plays an incredible match, the crowd seem like they are behind him, and he now has to play a Brit in the SF.

So glad Norrie won in end! My hands bit sore all clapping on court 1. Goffin to me seem play better than Norrie but home crowd defo help him along and get him there in end.

Chuffed to bits with that win for Cameron Norrie!!!
:bravo:
He's worked so hard to reach the top echelon in tennis and that was tough to come through.
Djokovic will be another level, someone with Grand Slam winning mentality.
But he won't like playing a left-handed Brit on Centre Court in the Semi-final.
Both had long 5setters so it might be a survival of the fittest - and hungriest to reach the Final.

Fabulous to see Cameron clinch it, was looking a bit dicey at one point but tremendous grit and determination to find a way through. Might have been a bit of a blow for David but good to see him finding form again. certainly a challenge against Djokovic and think it will be difficult but they both had tough battles.
Fritz takes the first set against Nadal.
Kyrgios 2 sets up, an injured Rafa back on terms, but a break down in the third.
Kyrgios wins in straights.

Ugh. Always felt a rando could come from left field to win the title this year but please god not dirty Krygios. I love a fiery flair player - Andy and Dan firmly in that camp - but they don't scream abuse at officials or provoke oppo then demand they're defaulted or any other lowlife Kygios antics. Please please he gets thrashed in the semi.
2 sets all in the last QF.
Feel sorry for Fritz. The Centre Court Crowd are totally against him.
An MTB to decide it then, probably fair on the face of it.
MTB turned into a bit of a procession, so it's Rafa who will face Nick Kyrgios in the second semi.

That was one heck of a match.
:bravo:
Rafa injured with an abdominal problem. Fingers crossed he will be OK for the semi.
If Rafa is hampered by his abdominal injury on Friday, he won't stand a chance against Nick :crying:

BBC just announcing a press conference with Rafa at 7.20 pm. But not announced his withdrawal.
He has a 7 mm tear in abdominal muscle.
It is now official. Rafa has withdrawn :crying:

Taylor Fritz must be fuming. And rightly so. Disgustingly selfish behaviour from Nadal. And don't at me Rafa fans, you know I'm right. Imagine if it was Andy in Fritz's position at the hands of Novak, I know what you'd be saying.

I do understand it very annoying but honestly if Fritz cannot even beat injured Nadal (He was injured long enough in match for Fritz able take advantage if only he was good enough) then he doesn't really deserve be in semis.
I am no Nadal fan. I do watch him but I don't support him.
not sure I understand? selfish? Krygios moves into the final automatically without playing v Nadal?
and if Nadal had retired Fritz could have played v Krygios?
Not a fan of Nadal, so this behaviour doesn’t surprise me. Sad for Fritz.

Exactly. Nadal should have retired against Fritz. It was blindingly obvious that he didn't have another match in him, but he carried on and has deprived Fritz of a place and fans of major semi.
Guardian, Kevin Mitchell, well written report of the Nadal v Fritz game

where should this be? please move or spike it.

I am not particularly a Rafa fan and I don't think it was blindingly obvious he would not be able to play the next match. There are plenty of times when players push through a match injured and manage to play the next match. If all players withdrew when injured there wouldn't be much tennis. Rafa did not undergo a scan until this morning and did not know how bad it was until then and was told that playing with it could make it worse. Should Kyrgios have retired from his match because of his shoulder just in case he could not play the next one?

Couldn't agree more with your post above

It was extremely clear from his camp screaming at him to retire and fans incredulous comments that he was able to finish the match at all that he hung on by a thread and was going to have next to nothing in the next round. It was a judgement call and Rafa judged that even if he had 0.001% of a chance in the next round he would go for it. That's Rafa.
And people keep saying they're not Rafa fans but I'm not a Taylor Fritz fan, totally indifferent to him, but I know how I'd feel if this was done to Andy. But the worst thing is fans being done out of one the biggest matches of the year.
Anyway, I've had my say - it's one to agree to disagree about
And then, of course, there are the people who paid around £200 for Centre Court tickets for tomorrow who are being short-changed.

Which means court 1 is available for wheelchair matches!

They'll be seeing the Wheelchair Doubles:-
Alfie Hewett vs Gordon Reid is now at 13:00 on court 1
Hewett/Reid vs Egberink/Gerard now 3rd on court 1
I'd still feel short changed on Centre.

Reid and Hewitt was yesterday on a very full outside court. There were comments made about them not being on a show court. So made up for it today.

Norrie didn't play as well as in some of his previous matches.
Nole had it all worked out and was up and running by the start of the 2nd set.
Djokovic v Kyrgios in the Final ... who'd have thunk it?
:crying:
Great run for Cam though - he should be very proud.
Please could they find a way for neither player to win the final??
I wonder which Kyrgios will turn up. In his presser he was disappointed not to be playing Rafa.
