View Full Version : Wimbledon 2022 R1: Andy vs Duckworth - Monday 6.30 pm
Andy vs Duckworth.
Centre Court crowd nicely warmed up by Emma's win.
Not a good start. He has just been broken to love.
Broken straight back. Good lad. If he gets through this it’s Isner next. He doesn’t want a long one. (Nor do my nerves).
Now ahead 4-3,Duckworth serving. My stomach is churning.I want him to win so much.

You and me both.
Broken again. Duckworth to serve for first set.
And he takes it. Andy has to step up a fair bit.
First set to Duckworth :-(

Oh Andy  Horrible nervy set. He'll settle down but he really needs to get through early round(s) efficiently. Go Andy!! :cheer:
46% first serves
Wasn't Andy's abdominal injury affecting his serve? Could be why first serves 46%

Much better from Andy . Arm loosened up, getting ball toss right and more first serves  More on the groundstrokes too  But match hasn't really caught fire.
5:3 to AM.
Can he serve it out?
That's more like it, although still not much in it... 1 set all.

All square, :bravo: Andy. Warming up nicely now and noodle arm cured. 2 more quick sets and off in little more than 2hrs

3rd set to Andy. Break to close the roof, shame but hopefully Andy keeps focus and nails the 4th quickly.
There's the break! Andy will serve for a place in the second round.

Wimbledon r1s are always nervy affairs. Understandably edgy first set, impressive thereafter. About 2.5hrs match time despite the dropped set - played longer best of 3 - all good. Keep going Andy, we are with you every shot of the way :cheer::cheer::cheer:
:cheer::cheer: Well done Andy.
Now to watch the rest of Heather's match.

Phew - terrific!
Andy starting imposing himself on the match more which thankfully did the trick.
Well done Andy!
Felt he was nervy at the start (naturally) and so happy for him that he won as Duckworth played well throughout. Well done to Kim for sporting a Dame Deborah tee-shirt too! What a couple! x
Glad he got through that. I was quite emotional when he came out at the beginning. It's so good to see him back on the Wimbledon grass. Isner next. Isner won in 5 sets. I told my husband early in that match. Isners going for 5!! Andy for the win, hopefully in 3.

thought Andy was pretty impressive once he got the upperhand in the 2nd and indoors did not change things too much. whilst obviously Isner can be tricky do not think quite same force and Andy has perfect record against him (though not played since 2016) and this is first meeting on grass.
