because the world of Tennis needs another competition to fill a few days in the Calendar to help the rich get richer.
I'd be all for a mixed competition, but they aren't going to take it seriously which sort of devalues the competition, prize money and points.
A new mixed event to replace the ATP Cup.
BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/63426382) - United Cup: New mixed team event to launch in Australia on 29 December
The United Cup, a new $15m (£13.5m) mixed team event that carries rankings points, will open the 2023 tennis season in Australia.
The event will involve teams from 18 nations playing matches in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.
The new tournament will launch on 29 December and conclude on 8 January, eight days before the Australian Open.
It will replace the short-lived ATP Cup, a men's team event which ran for three years between 2020 and 2022.

Just seen this on Tennisontelly page
According to the United Cup website, matches will be available to stream in the UK on "on United Cup official channels", presumably this includes their YouTube channel at https://youtube.com/@UnitedCup/videos
(thanks to
@kordass
for the heads up).
Cameron playing De Minaur instead of Kyrgios. Has started.
Team GB take a 2-0 lead into day two with straight set wins for Cam and Katie.
Harriet Dart clinches the tie with a 6-4 6-4 win over Maddison Inglis. As it's the group stage, the remaing two rubbers are still important.
Dan Evans chucks away a 5-0 second set lead to lose 6-3 7-6(3) to Jason Kubler.
Dan a bit off form today:sad:

They had said yesterday that they hoped he would be fit to play having picked up a virus in Aberdeen so he may have still been suffering from some illness.
Mixed doubles is Dart/O'Mara v. Stosur/Peers.
Australia won the mixed, and the tie ends 3-2. I hope that doesn't prove costly!

I thought Harriet and Jonny played very well against the vastly more experienced Stosur and Peers.

Norrie v Nadal could be interesting watching on a wet Saturday .....
They had said yesterday that they hoped he would be fit to play having picked up a virus in Aberdeen so he may have still been suffering from some illness.
Didn't see the match, but there was a casual comment from a commentator later on. Can't remember how it was said but he was indicating he hoped that Dan got back to full health soon.
Well done Cam - took out Rafa - 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 :GBflag::cheer:
And now it's Katie Swan's turn to come from a set down, she is on the verge of victory against Parrizas Dias.
Brilliant match from Katie!! :GBflag:

That was a huge win for Katie from a set and a break down! 3-6 6-1 6-2
Was a good day for the Brits. Well done to both, coming back from a set down.
From 5-2 up, Harriet loses 4 games in a row, but manages to get to a first set tie break against Paula Badosa.
Badosa, struggling physically, served for the set at 5-4, but Harriet broke back.
Badosa breaks again for *6-5.
Harriet breaks back again, but now trails 5-0 in the tie break, so it looks like this is going the distance.
Back on serve at 6-5*, one more set point to save...
Harriet serves a double to hand Spain the set.
Harriet now a break down in the decider.
Make that a double break. Pressure now on Dan versus PCB.
PCB has been replaced by AR-V. Don't know if that's good news or not...
Looks like good news so far as Evo takes the first set 6-3.
Looks like he is still suffering from whatever he picked up in Aberdeen
Nearly there, Dan leads 5-2* in the decider.
Dan to serve for the match and the tie at 5-3.
Fantastic!! Great recovery from Dan as he takes the victory.:GBflag: :yahoo::yahoo:
Bonus of a couple of days off now.
Well done Dan for pulling that one off.
That was a battle of the bugs with Ramos Vinolas recovering from flu and Dan recovering from his preChristmas bug and both travelling to Oz while they were unwell.
Glad some of the good commentators are with TennisTV this week.

GB vs USA - all 5 matches starting at 1.30 am.
Team USA lead 2-1. Madison Keys beat Katie Swan in 3 sets, then Cam Norrie beat Taylor Fritz in 3 sets. Jessica Pegula swept aside Harriet Dart, only losing 2 games. Its now up to Dan Evans to beat Frances Tiafoe to take the tie to a decider.
So far, so good... Dan takes the first set 6-3.
1 set all. Should be all over, but Dan didn't take his chances late in the set.
It's all going south, Dan a break down in the decider.
oop for Thursday - https://www.atptour.com/en/scores/current/brisbane-perth-sydney/9900/daily-schedule
USA, who beat GB, are the winners.
