Andy 5th on Centre not before 6.30 pm.

At the French Open they said that Gilles Simon was retiring at the end of the year, so I guess this could be his last tournament.

First set Andy. Breaks Simon after failing to serve it out at 5-3

1st set to And 6-4. Dropped serve when serving for it 5-4 but broke straight back to take the set

Really wanted a quick 2nd set from Andy!

Oh dear, I’ve never seen Andy get so.. tight and make so many mistakes when trying to serve it out. It is horrible to watch

Well that is disappointing- Andy’s just been broken and I don’t know why but his shots have just lost focus and are a bit wild

He could and should have taken that 2nd set; in fact he should try and finish all his early matches in 2 sets. But he seems to lose focus so easily and then the match. x

I totally agree, it’s not enjoyable to watch.

How is he in this set? I’m in the lakes with usual lakes signal!

The crowd are really bugging Andy. He needs to rise above it (easier said than done)

Just dropped serve, down 2-1. Crowd doing their best to put him off and succeeding

I'm angry at the crowd and the umpire but I'm also angry at Andy as he had the match in his hand. x

Can't blame the crowd for Andy failing to serve out sets twice and failing to take umpteen break points.

I know but it's so frustrating. x

Closing out is definitely a challenge these days

lovetennis

Don't know what to say really. Looked like Andy just wanted to get off the court in that last game. Disgraceful behaviour from the crowd, but you have to rise above it & Andy let them get to him

All was good until 5-3 in the 2nd set, but from then on, it was bizarre. I could hardly believe what I was seeing. I'm so sad that Andy's season has ended like this. All to play for in 2023.

Hate to say it but I am beginning to wonder if he is unsure about continuing. After his comments about missing his family last week, I wonder if he's considering calling it a day

Just back for end of the last serve and can’t believe the results. Andy had that in the bag. He has played in much more hostile situations than this and won - often he’s relished the French shouting at him so how could he let this get to him.

He certainly needs a serious rethink after that

HoopGirl

I have also read that he wants to play clay court next year so who knows.
If he’s going to be away from his family he needs to make it worth whole though - so making sure he takes every opportunity to win - not a game like today which was shocking loss to be honest.

clancy

I don't think he knows what he wants to be honest; he is probably afraid of the future to a certain extent and that is understandable yet he has so much going for him. I love him to bits and want the very best future for him and feel it's got to the stage where he needs to sit down with Kim, Judy, Leon, etc, perhaps independently - all the people who love him - and talk it through and help him make a decision because tonight should not have happened. x

Mike Dickson of the Daily Mail reporting on Andy's post-match presser - said the the cramping issues were back from the end of the 2nd set

A really frustrating loss when Andy had the match in his hands, too many wild errors and Giles took advantage. cannot blame it all on the crowd (even if they were pretty hostile),really should have found a way to deal with it. Certainly needs a rethink moving forward, though has previously given an indication he intends to play at least next season.

Thanks for that Lovetennis - at least we have a reason.
I wonder if he was stressed because it was Gilles last match and they have so much history together?

Very sad about it. I only caught the last bit. I just wish he would call it a day now. I would like to see him take on Emma Raducanu and get her back on track.

Have a rest and join the Senior Circuit.

Commentators of the following match last night were saying it was cramping too. Just hope Andy can get to the bottom of it.
