He won't be at No 1 for long. Djoko on a charge just besaten Mevedev in straight sets, plays Korda next for the title.
BBC (https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/64207954) - Australian Open: Players can compete if they have Covid-19
Players at the Australian Open will not need to take Covid-19 tests and could play if they have the virus.
"We just wanted to follow what's currently in the community," tournament director Craig Tiley said.
"We have gone a step further by making a recommendation around staying away when you're ill."
Last year players had to test daily and isolate if positive and also had to be vaccinated, while in 2021 the event took place in a biosecure bubble.
Nine-time champion Novak Djokovic, who is unvaccinated, was deported last January just before the tournament because of his Covid-19 status.
"We've made it clear to our players, as well as our staff, if anyone is feeling unwell, stay home, our medical staff will continue to monitor that, with the players individually as well." Tiley added.
"It's a normalised environment for us and, not dissimilar to the cricket, there will potentially be players that will compete with Covid-19."
Last week cricketer Matt Renshaw continued to play for Australia in a five-day test match against South Africa in Sydney after testing positive for Covid-19.

Andy playing Berretini first round which I’m guessing isn’t something either of them are pleased about - however Andy has had a good run pre tournament so let’s hope Berretini isn’t in his grove yet!

Very difficult for Andy, think Jack may have a chance against Rafa
The ATP think Jack has a chance too.
The draw review by the ATP - https://www.atptour.com/en/news/australian-open-2023-draw-preview
starts with
Rafael Nadal will face a difficult opening test at the Australian Open against British lefty Jack Draper
Hope Jack can keep focussed in Adelaide.
Djokovic withdrew from a practice session yesterday with hamstring issues. Apparently there were hamstring issues during Adelaide 1.

A mixed day for the Brits... Emma won and Cam is on his way to doing so, but Jack Draper, Kyle Edmund and Harriet Dart lost.
Dan is first up on Court 7 tomorrow against Fecundo Bagnis.

If he is injured at least someone else gets a chance

Andy vs Berrettini -3rd up on Rod Laver
Dan Evans vs Bagnis - 1st on Court 7
Feel really sorry for Jack as he suffered a lot of cramping in sets 3 & 4. He could have won the match otherwise, in my opinion.

At least he will learn from this.
New kid on the block, 17 year old Shang, the youngest in the draw, won his first match.

Pity about he cramping but glad Jack had a strong performance for most of the match.

I agree, he was playing really well and was amazed that he still fought hard. Shame about the result but well done to him.
oop for Wednesday - https://ausopen.com/schedule#!32086
Raducano vs Guaff - 1st night match on Rod Laver at 8.00 am.
At time of posting only oop for 3 show courts up. So Cameron's match not shown yet.
Play was suspended twice on some of the courts today due to the heat rule and rain, so there are some unfinished matches to play on Wednesday.
Cameron vs Lestienne last on Kia Arena (after 3 women's matches and 1 men's match to finish)
I agree, he was playing really well and was amazed that he still fought hard. Shame about the result but well done to him.
Shades of Andy in his early days ...... against Nalbandian at Queen's if I remember rightly.
....... or was it Wimbledon?

....... or was it Wimbledon?
I think it was Wimbledon
I think you've right. If think Andy was two sets up and then cramped and lost in 5 but the match heralded his arrival on the international stage. Let's hope it's the same for Jack.
Lots of matches on outside courts delayed today due to rain. Play has started again.
Cameron is now scheduled not before 11 am UK time, with one WTA beforehand just starting.
Revised oop for Wednesday - https://ausopen.com/schedule#!32086
oop for Thursday - https://ausopen.com/schedule#!32091
Not fully complete at time of posting
Andy 2nd night match on Margaret Court arena.
Dan 1st match on Court 3
Cameron's match has just started and is on Eurosport 2
One set all and now in third set tb - Cam leading 4-2
Cam has taken the third set in a tiebreaker. So leading 2 sets to 1.
Cam takes the tb and third set. Leads 2 - 1 ln sets. He seems a bit off form - probably after last weeks efforts in Aukland, and the fact that it is now 12.42am Thursday in Melbourne!! Come on Cam
Cam wins. Made hard work of it though.

Certainly looked dicey but gutsy fightback from Cameron to turn it in his favour, not ideal but got there in the end. The big shock of the day was Nadal going down in straights to McKenzie MacDonald but had a hip injury.
Just seen it on the news about Cameron's win. I heard, earlier, he might not be playing because of the rain. Well done to him.
#2 seed Ruud out, Zverev and Fritz out too.
oop for Friday - https://ausopen.com/schedule#!32096
Cameron Norrie 4th on Kia. Not before 4.30 am.
Dan is through to R3 in case anyone's interested.

Dan vs Rublev - 2nd on Margaret Court Arena (1st match starts midnight)
Andy vs Bautista Agut - 1st night match on Margaret Court Arena - not before 8.00 am.
Really sorry Cam is out especially to someone I've never heard of! He has been playing so well but yes, perhaps a knee issue. x

As well as Djokovic played Tsitsipas tightened up in some key moments, did not make the most of the set point in the 2nd and had pretty poor start in both Breakers.
I guess Tsitsipas is getting closer though, but he did have his chances.

Very frustrating, as usual Nole got annoyed the minute the ball was hit away from him and he was running side to side, then Stef just started hitting to him again!

I was more cross with Stephanos tightening up when serving for the match at 5-4 in the 3rd set of his semifinal, as if he had won that set I would have got a PS in Forecast the Match.
