H2H against his prospective opponents:-
Andy v Djokovic : 4-6, 4-4 on hard cts, 3-1 in Finals (Masters for Andy, Nole win at AO 2011)
Andy v Ferrer: 5-4, 5-0 on hard cts, 1-0 in Finals.
Andy beat David Ferrer in the Semi-Final of the 2011 AO (4-6, 7-6(2), 6-1, 7-6(2)) before losing to Nole in the Final.
More to follow when we know who'll play Andy.

Yes please ! Andy should be that lucky
Chris Hollins on BBC has just said BBC2 will show Andy's semi live :yahoo:
From ESPN
"Good omen for Andy: Murray reached his third consecutive semifinal at the Australian Open. The deeper meaning? He was the ninth man to do it, and the previous eight all ended up as Grand Slam champions. "
Interesting to note that the last time the top 4 seeds all made the men's semis at the Aus Open, the 4th seed (Safin) beat the then seemingly unbeatable top seed (Federer) in the semis and then beat the 3rd seed (Hewitt) in the Final.
Oh for a re-run ...
Edit: Sharko (ATP) says that the only other previous time in the Open Era that the top 4 seeds all reached the semis (i.e. apart from 2005) was 1988 - when, as in 2005, the 3rd and 4th seeds reached the Final, though in that case the 3rd seed (Wilander) won the Final.
And the top seed who lost to the 4th seed (Cash) in the semis in 1988 was ... a certain Ivan Lendl.

It's Nole. What a match this could be! Looking forward to a great game on Friday, hopefully with a great Andy win! We've had enough semis against Rafa, let's see how our boy is doing against The Djoker.
Best of luck Andy!! :flowers::flowers:
Chris Hollins on BBC has just said BBC2 will show Andy's semi live :yahoo:
Great!! so it should be on the BBC HD Channel too.:yahoo:

Djokovic says he's physically fit. Congested, found it difficult to breathe. Not worried re being fit for SF. Just needs to "breathe better"

Just confirmed for those sitting exams on Friday morning, Murray v Djokovic will be on iPlayer afterwards, finals too. bbc.in/xKlEBu

Hmm. Big TV versus computer monitor. Commentators (probably Castle and Lloyd) versus no commentary. Decisions, all the time decisions!

Let's hope playing Ferrer in the quarters has the same result for Nole then!

When the Big 4 all met in the semis, Fed won the 2008 US Open, Rafa won RG 2011, Djoko won the 2011 US Open... 2012 AO for Murray then??"

Be great to see it on TV. Bet365 stream has been very good but only a small screen that you can't enlarge. My Tv is 37" so I will be able to follow the ball! Go Andy you will need one of your very best games on Friday but you can beat Nole and he is also very tired regardless of what he says.

Massive congratulations to Andy for reaching his 5th consecutive semi final. May he play his absolute best tennis on Friday for if he does, I believe he will be the victor. Am praying to that end!

Now we get to see just what this resolute Andy can do.
I certainly feel that he will walk on court in a a far better place in his head than he did last year when facing Nole. That will give him some extra points and games I am sure.
Last year at the business end of the AO Nole showed his intentions for the year.
Andy has won through to give himself that opportunity in 2012. Take it Andy! :)
I do wonder if perhaps Andy may try coming to the net as a tactic just to see whether that may bamboozle Novak

Tut. I only work 2 days & 1 of them is Friday. I was hoping it was going to be the early match so I could try get an early night & get up to watch it. A very strict council policy on internet use/mobile use means I am not going to be able to follow this very easily. Hmmmm.... Absolutely ecstatic myself, I'm not working Friday either - nor Sunday! Which makes me feel all warm and happy inside, as surely it must mean good luck to Andy?
He certainly will need all the luck we can send him! :trophy:
So want Andy to do well.
Just been thinking - the fact it's a semi rather than a final, gives it more a sense of urgency & the need to conserve energy since there's a final to consider too.
So, I really hope that Andy isn't lulled into a false sense of security by djoko. I hope he will step in and take the initiative rather than hope for djoko's errors and allow djoko to bully him about. Fingers crossed.
They said on 5live that Andy came out to practise on RLA after the women's match this morning. Hope his preparations are going well. Good luck, Andy!

Commies have to talk a lot less and put a sock in it, I do not know what kind of birds seeds Matts W. takes, he talks all through points and was so for Mr Federer pre match today.

Yes, similar problem. I have to drive my husband to hospital for a checkup at 10 am, so there will be a "hole" in my watching for about an hour. I too will be recording it so I can catch up on what I miss. If it had only been on Eurosport I would have had problems - their Video on Demand is flaky, to say the least - they STILL haven't got Andy's match with Nishikori available, though they not only have Djoker's later match yesterday, but the Fed/Rafa match this morning! Thank goodness I saw most of the match on Eurosport's 9.30pm program.

I'd be seriously disappointed if Andy losing the first set meant he lost the match. I sincerely believe thats the sort of thing Lendl will be kicking out of his mind and I don't see why he can't come from two sets down to beat Djokovic tomorrow.

Another point, not to sure I agree with the idea that Andy's had an easier draw in comparison to Novak.
Yeah, things really opened up, but I'm not sure that Hewitt and Ferrer were big tests. Mentally and physically perhaps they don't give you anything, but did they really have the shots to hurt Novak? Not really. Nishikori and Llodra had far more up their sleeve than anything I think Djokovic has had to face in terms of shotmaking.
I'm not saying Andy's had a harder draw than Djoko either however, I just really wouldn't read to much into previous matches as to having an affect on this one.

Just been a discussion on Five Live on Andy Murray's chances, pretty negative as expected particularly with Castle being involved! Whilst he said Andy was a level up from Tim Henman and didn't discount his chances of winning a slam at some point he said climbing Everest with a pair of slippers would be an easier task than beating the top 2 this weekend! A journalist said he was the weakest of the top 4 and called him "The Nearly Man"
I hope Andy beats Nole but as long as he bring his A game and gives it his best shot I'll be happy enough as I'm sure there will be further chances and the Lendl partnership which I'm sure can be beneficial is in its early days. As long as Andy does himself justice I won't have too many complaints, he really needs to have a good serving day to maximise his chances. Think andy said he would have to patient and pick the right moments to be aggressive, so hope he gets the balance right. A bit apprehensive as I always am before big matches, but really looking forward to it!

its a shame that we have to keep hearing all this repetitive negative stuff towards Andy Murray - from our so called finest british tennis players of the past!! - and on the eve of a grand slam semi final -
i grew up supporting these same british players (Lloyd, Henman, Castle, Croft etc.) in fact any british player - hoping they would go on and win any tournament - let alone a grand slam!! -
its their total negative attitude that really leaves me more than a little annoyed -
that the the same support that they enjoyed from many tennis fans at their time of playing - yet some appear they can't bring themselves to lend any support or encouragement or give any favorable opinion towards Andy!!
supergran
27-01-2012, 00:36
I totally agree 40-15. It is so sad and also very frustrating and annoying to hear these past players, whose achievements pale into insignificance when compared to Andy's, being so negative, lukewarm and, in some instances downright insulting. They think they're so knowledgeable but they just go on and on regurgitating the same old, tired comments and criticisms. It's about time they displayed some pride and support for the best Scottish/British player we've had for well over half a century. I too gave my wholehearted support to Lloyd, Roger Taylor, Buster Mottram, Henman and Rusedski to name a few plus the ladies including Annabel. I feel let down as well as angry, They should be singing his praises and lauding him to the skies and as long as they don't knowledgeable tennis fans will regard their viewpoint as stemming from jealousy, envy and, in some cases, malice. I'm sure Andy is sick of the lot of them and I only hope he realises that from his many fans he only receives love and support.
The Very, Very Best of Luck Andy!!!!!...........With You All The Way!!!!!!:thumbup:

I disagree.
I loved Henman and genuinely believe he supports Andy. But if someone asks him the question "who do you think will win", there is nothing wrong with him saying climbing everest would be easier et cetera. It's true, Andy is not the favourite over these two players. I doubt he said he could not win.
Well, 2 hours to go and unfortunately I'm going to bed!!! Will be the first match here I haven't watched live but have decided to tape and will get up at 4 in the morning and watch before I have to go to work. Please cheer him on for me. LET'S GO ANDY, LET'S GO :cheer::excited:

Brits just won the Junior Doubles. Surely they are now "O men" boom boom!
And my International Europsport coverage just had Mats Wilander predicting Andy in five....
Do not worry. Ivan reminded us that it might happen today or not. We want Andy to play well. And see what happens.
C'mon Andy!

I get squeamish if Lassie gets a thorn in its paw - so I wouldn't put too much hope on that!
Come on Andy - looks like he's settling the nerves.
I opted for a hot cross bun to settle mine!

27-01-2012, 08:55
Great hold. I honestly thought he might be broken at first.
Very encouraging last three points. Andy seems to have gone on court with a lot in his head and adjustments to make.
He might need the first set to work it all out.
Or not! C'mon Andy!
Much better than a hold to love, in my opinion.
Oh it totally is - but we'll take a hold in any way, shape or form!

He seems to have a fascination with the net today!
Watching on Bet365 (it's more "live" than BBC) and they're saying Judy is noticeably absent from Andy's box and that this may be a Lendl request. Unbelievable the ignorance.:grrr:
