Thanks Sally.

What’s Andy’s head to head with Dimitrov?

Hawkeye

8-3.

HoopGirl

Thanks Hawkeye.
They haven’t played since 2016 so a lot has changed for them both since then. Dimitri has both Andy’s old coaches working for him now too. But he’s been struggling with a bad back apparently and had a 5 hour match.
Hope this one is Andy’s

Not the best of starts... Andy wins the first point of the match on Dimitrov's serve, but then loses the next 8 points.

But, after an incredible third game of 16 minutes, Andy breaks back!

Andy still has some speed on the court!

Hawkeye

At the rate this is going, this might be the only matched played on Ashe today...

This could be a long slog for Andy, just what we didn't want. Like the battler he is, he has brought it back to 2-2. Wish things would get easier for him. x

Dimitrov had a long match yesterday so hopefully Andy is tiring him out.

Andy v Dimi has started. Going with serve.
Muzzah *3-4 but *0-30

After all that battling, Andy hands Dimi a break to love.

clancy

1st set to Dimitrov 6-3. Is Andy's serve not on song?

Sallydaisy
31-08-2023, 17:33
Oh rats!
Now Andy is down a break in the 2nd set too; but he's just held for 1-2.

Pity Andy fell away towards end of 1st after some great points, not ideal at break down here but hopefully can get back on track.

HoopGirl

This is all feeling nervy at the moment!

clancy
31-08-2023, 17:51
I wanted him to progress to the 3rd round so much. x

Sallydaisy
31-08-2023, 17:55
It isn't over yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sallydaisy

C'mon Andy break back!!! It's a deuce on Dimi's serve ...

clancy
31-08-2023, 18:05
Now 5-3 down in the 2nd set.

Some reason US Open website live score not showing Andy's match or any main show courts. Only showing court 4 plus.

cazza99
31-08-2023, 18:14
I can see it OK.

Dimitrov has won second set.

cazza99
31-08-2023, 18:17
There is still hope - Andy has come back from 2 sets down 4 times at the US Open.

Speedy Hawk

Now Andy match appears on US Open website live score. Must be temp bug and they fixed it quickly.

JAMES4578

After breaking back for 1 all Andy drops serve again, making things tough for himself-come on!

Teresa
31-08-2023, 18:39
Such a shame. In days gone by he would have mauled Dimitrov.

clancy
31-08-2023, 18:56
So true Teresa. So wanted him to progress one more round. x

clancy
31-08-2023, 19:04
Match over. Rest up Andy and consider what's best for you, which is what we all want. x

Not good though credit to Dimitrov for playing well. Wonder what Andy will have to say about it in his presser

JAMES4578

Dimitrov was certainly up for it but after some promising early signs a disappointing display from Andy and did not really vary tactics. After Grigor avoided losing a 2nd break in the 3rd the Murray challenge faded.

31-08-2023, 19:15
Oh well. Wonder if a night or late afternoon match would have made a difference. Grigor seemed to get his tactics spot on there. Hope Andy does not get too down and, as somebody mentioned, does what he feels is best for him.

Disappointed for Andy, really hoped he could get the win, he will lost ranking points now because he got to the 3rd round in last year's US open:sad:

HoopGirl

This was such a blow tonight.
Grigor had him well sussed.
But such a tough loss - worse than Wimbledon I think because he just wasn’t playing the level he can

He didn't seem to have any oomph..... lacklustre performance. Repeating a pattern of play that wasn't working. No plan B. Where was all the net play from Tuesday? Beyond disappointing. Can only hope he's got the lurgy that seems to be going round the locker rooms :crying:

clancy
01-09-2023, 05:45
Danny and Jamie D would have had Andy's game well sussed before it even started; who but Andy could have faced that scenario? Very disappointed for him, not with him. x

I read Dimitrov had two of Andy's ex coaches have been helping him. Disappointed for Andy.

pabbers

True Clancy but nevertheless it's not the first time Andy's met him. His court intelligence normally kicks in and he works things out on the hoof. But it was like he had brain fog and was stuck in one repetitive mode of play. That's why I wonder if he's coming down with whatever seems to be ailing the tournament.

Really disappointed but I thought Andy looked bushed from the start. Maybe the humidity or maybe a bug?
