Wrong thread, I know. Emma Raducanu won her 1st round match against Ruse in Aukland and will face Svitolina next. Sky showed the match.

Emma is back! As said elsewhere, she won her first round match in Auckland in 3 sets and plays Elena Svitolina in round 2.

Watched it and pleased for her she got over the line in her first match back. Close!

Great to see her back but very worrying to see such injuries so early in her career. Quite often if they start off like that they don't have a long career. Look at Laura Robson.

Good that Emma got the win in tight encounter in first match back, will be much tougher with Svitolina mind you. Just hope that she her fitness will improve over time.
Is there anywhere to watch the match not on Sky?

Unfortunately Emma has pulled out of the Melbourne Park exhibition event she was due to play in this week. Hopefully it's only a precaution but....

Emma has now pulled out of another exhibition match. She had strapping on her thigh during the Svitolina match, which was a long match. Just hope she can have an injury-free season and be able to find her true tennis level without such problems.
Emma lost 6-0 7-6(6) to Kalinina in the first round in Doha.
Yes - just watched it.
Did you watch on Sky by any chance? Just wondering what the new service is like?

Well done Emma. She won 6-2 6-3 against Masarova.

Emma's next opponent will be the winner of Sabalenka and Stearns which is the night match tonight.

Sabalenka serving for the match; Emma had break chances at 40-30*
and has stopped Saba from taking Ad for the match 3 times now.

Hoped Emma might came through that one but it was a long match. Apparently Emma lost her last three service games , broke back at 3-5 but double faulted at the end. Still badosa can be tough even if ranking fallen.

Emma has now withdrawn from Beijing.
She's sprained a ligament in her left foot and been advised not to play.
Sallydaisy
23-10-2024, 09:59
Emma has withdrawn from WTA HongKong citing the left foot injury which hasn't
healed enough to allow her to play.
This is the same foot that she had surgery on back in May 2023 (alongside surgery
on both wrists that same month) so I'm not sure if she'll ever get back up to speed!
Shame because she is only 22 and could, if uninjured, still make her way up the
rankings given time.
JAMES4578

All square between Raducanu and Navarro.
Emma took the first set 7'6, lost the second 2'6 and is a break down
in the 3rd having just held serve for 1-2
Does anybody else find the Sky Tennis onscreen scoreboard in the women's matches very difficult to read? It is transparent and the text is either white or pale green.
Emma down 2-3 in the third set. Navarro to serve.
Emma serving for the match at 5-3...
And Emma R. wins the tb 7-3 and the match :yahoo:
Sallydaisy
21-03-2025, 20:33

Nearly 3hrs though ... needs to ensure she's fit for the next round.

JAMES4578

A great win for Emma in the end (gutsy by all accounts), lengthy battle though and the foot problem may be a concern moving forward. still should be a confidence boost.

Emma through to the last 16 , opponent Mccartney Kessler retired when trailing 6-1, 3-0. She will face the 17th seed Amanda Anismova who put out Andreeva 7-6,2-6,6-3.

Emma romped through the first set 6'1 against Anisimova, WR17.
The American has just had a medical time-out, not sure what for as I'm only following on flashscores.
Emma needs to stay focussed, was 40-0 on serve, now 40-30.
Emma now serving for the match, 5-3 up in the 2nd set.
Something with the wrist I think. She also had blisters on racket hand from last match. She hat the trainer on.

In the Quarter-Final Emma will take on 4th seed Jessie Pegula, currently WR4.
They've met twice before and the H2H is 1-1.
In 2022 Pegula d Raducanu 7'5, 6'4 in Cincinatti, outdoor hard.
In 2024 Raducanu d Pegula in 3 sets at Eastbourne on grass.

Still a good run for Emma who will be back in the top 50 from Monday.
Apparently she had her blood pressure and pulse checked during the 2nd set after complaining of dizziness.
Think it was hot yesterday.
JAMES4578
27-03-2025, 10:21
A pity that Emma could not quite sustain the challenge in the end but a good effort against Pegula, likely tough conditions. certainly a good run which should boost confidence.
She definitely looked as though she had little left in the tank in the third. Hopefully she can work on her fitness because her tennis is just great.

As she was attended by a doctor before leaving the court it seems she was really unwell. She was one of many players retiring in the current tournaments being played in horrendous conditions of heat and humidity. Even Jannik Sinner had to retire!
suttontennis
09-10-2025, 12:02
As Holger Rune said, do you want someone to die on court ? If the heat and humidity makes someone feel so unwell, then should they (the player involved or players generally) be playing in such conditions ?
Shouldn't they be training so they play in extreme heat and humidity though.
