View Full Version : Provence 2024 R1: Andy vs Machac - Tuesday 2.30 pm approx
Andy vs Machac match thread.
3rd on Centre Court, 2nd match not before 12.30 UK time.
The very best of luck to Andy for his match today. Ready do want him to do well here to prove to himself and others that he can go further than of late; although realise it won't perhaps be an easy match for him. Everything crossed for him. x
Sadly he lost in 2 sets. I watched the first set but couldn’t watch any more as he kept setting up the point beautifully and then missing the last shot which he used to do with his eyes closed. I think he just wants it too much. So sad:sad::crying:

Bummer! That shame.
I have posted a few comments on here today and they seem to have disappeared! I suspected it would not go well; Machau is a much better player than Paire. What happens to his ranking now, only one way obviously?
I followed the match on the live scores website, earlier. Disappointed for him.

Disappointing but I thought he did not look too despondent when he left the court - much of the match was quite close. First serves need to be better. Machac played very well - he has taken a few big scalps recently so his confidence is high.
Like Stell I only followed on fs so thank you exislander for your comment. I feel gutted for him. x

He does want it so much which is definitely part of the problem.
I also think being constantly asked when you are retiring is also part of the problem - as soon as you decide when you want to stop working until you mentally start checking out.
I see it with people I know who have decided they have 1.5 years until retirement - they become disengaged and mentally switch off - their mind is on other things. That?s the date they are working too. Whilst Andy wants to win, part of him might not want the pain or pressure of competing whereas he loves practicing which is where he performs well?.

It is perhaps worth noting that Machac today beat Musetti 6-3 6-2. Musetti is currently ranked 26 and was the 6th seed in this event.
Your match with him not so shabby Andy! Bring that head up and keep going. x
I read, earlier, he's now thinking about playing on the Challenger circuit. I wonder if Nottingham might have helped him. I know they would have got more people turning up apart from the umpires, the ball people and staff.

That’s interesting about Machac.
So often seems to be the case that he’s beaten by someone who is playing well
