Emma Raducanu is now playing lucky loser Zarazua as Alexandrova has withdrawn.

Should now be less of a challenge , cannot take anything for granted though. Zarazua is ranked 98th.

Zarazua has also just won 3 matches on grass to qualify.

Wouldn't that be 2 wins if she s a "lucky loser"?

Yes, oops - 2 wins and one loss. But 3 matches.

Harriet Dart is through in straights.

Big news was defending champion Marketa Vondrousova going out in straights to 83rd ranked spaniard Jessica Bouza Maneiro, not happened at Wimbledon since Steffi Graf lost to Lori MacNeil in 1994 (though only 16 seeds then) Good wins for Harriet and Katie!

Kartel won the first set and was 4 1 up in the second against Burel but then fluffed the second set. On serve in 3rd set.

Kartal has a break and has just held for 4-2.
Burel held so Kartal to serve next at *4-3. Must hold game for the Brit ...

:yahoo:
Sonay Kartal (WR298) is through to R3 at Wimbledon!!!
She got her game back on track in the 3rd set and won 6'3, 5'7, 6'3 over Burel (WR45).

Her reward? A R3 match against 2nd seed Coco Gauff.

 well done Sonay Kartel.

At least she will get some good prize money and ranking points.

Fab for Sonay Kartal, well done! Emma impressive in an emphatic 6-1,6-2 win over Elise Mertens -fabulous!

Sonay put up a good fight in the 1st set but faded a little in the 2nd.
Coco Gauff won 6'4, 6'0.

Raducanu though in straight sets 6'3, 6'2 against Sakkari.
Emma looked very sharp and played some great tennis + serve on song.

Not the best from Sakkari but Emma put her under pressure throughout, some great points! Will face qualifier Lulu Sun in the last 16. Good effort from Sonay in the 1st and certainly done well.

Harriet Dart took the first set 6'2.
She was up a break and serving at *3-1 but Wang has just broken back
so will serve at *2-3 after the change of ends.

Keep going Harriet!!!

Argh!
Harriet was up 3-1 in the 2nd set but lost it 5-7.
She was up 3-1 in the 3rd, deciding, set but then failed to hold twice and Wang is serving at *4-3 with the break.

And Dart loses ... had so many chances in sets 2 and 3 to get through
but Wang was very determined and went up a level to fight back and win.

one that got away, still good effort from Harriet.

A pity for Emma as she goes down to Lulu Sun 6-2,5-7,6-2. That fall at start of 3rd was concern, cannot be sure it was conclusive but the momentum changed again afterwards. As well as Sun played though it was an uncertain start and the serve was not effective enough today. Still can take positives from the tournament.

Gauff out to Navarro!
So the #1 and #2 seeds haven't made it to the Quarter Finals.
Very open field at this Wimbledon now.

JAMES4578

certainly surprised, thought Gauff would have a deep run. From the top 10 only Rybakina (4) and Paolini (7) left.

We were lucky enough to be given seats for Emma's match yesterday and, to us, it simply looked as though she was outplayed and firefighting all the time.

Congratulations to Jasmine Paolini for making it to the Wimbledon Final.
She and Donna Vekic played an amazing match but the Italian finally won it 2'6, 6'4, 7'6(8)

It was a great match and at almost 3 hours apparently it was the longest ever ladies singles semifinal at Wimbledon.

Paolini will face Krejcikova (who won at Roland Garros a few years ago) in the Final.
The Czech player has had great success in Doubles so has a good all round game but
it's a while since she's gone this far in a Slam singles.
