:sad::crying::crying:

Emma out of doubles because of stiffness in wrist! So, Andy has played his last match at Wimbledon.:sad::sad:

Emma has withdrawn from the mixed doubles. Such a shame for Andy (and us)

Such a shame. Glad they gave him a send off his match with Jamie.

I did wonder if there was a risk of Emma withdrawing if she won her match on Friday so she had time to recover for her next match on Sunday. There are others who had predicted it.

Ram and Volynets are replacing Andy and Emma in the mixed doubles. Apparently it is against the rules for Andy to find a new pairing.

Disappointing but with the stiffness and scheduling I guess it is understandable. At least Andy got the great send off!

Can hardly blame Emma for wanting to be careful given that she had both wrists operated on last year.
She's played well so far and will still need all her skill and wits to get past Sun who has a few matches
under her belt having come through Qualies.

Shame for Andy but I personally think that the send off with Jamie on Centre Court, and all the
family there too, was much the best celebration and thank you they could have done. Difficult
to see them getting all those folks together again for today and it would have been a bit of an
anti-climax even if a nice way to give him another 'celebration' on Court 1.

Just hope she doesn't get booed next time she comes on court..... it's possible. Crowds can be unforgiving.

They are too polite on Centre Court to boo.

From the BBC article

Murray's mother Judy, in response to a post on X from television presenter Marcus Buckland describing Raducanu's decision as "astonishing", wrote: "Yes, astonishing."

Judy is saying today she was being sarcastic. And that the scheduling was the issue and that it’s time to move on

My first thought when I heard of the comment was that she was being sarcastic - as in did anyone really expect Emma to have a potentially very late evening finish the night before an important singles match.

Emma's team did not want her to accept the mixed doubles in the first place because she is still recovering from her surgeries. So really Emma should not have accepted if there was a chance she could pull out.

I - along with a lot of others - thought from day that it was likely that Emma would pull out. She should have listened to her team but when has she ever?

I don't think she should have accepted if there was even a remote chance of her pulling out. She deprived someone else of the chance and Andy of that chance as well.

There had been a forecast for showers and they were very behind with the doubles, especially the mixed doubles so a possibility of inconvenient scheduling was on the cards.

One thing that is strange is that there was no public apology to Andy when she withdrew. But then we don't know what was agreed between them when Raducanu accepted playing - maybe she only agreed if her singles was not going to be affected.

My view is the same as Genbrit's.

A shame all round. Understand totally why Emma pulled out, agree she should have been advised it was unrealistic and not agreed in first place (or at least back tracked after talking to her team and before it went public as I totally get why she would have initially jumped at saying yes), I also get that Andy would be gutted - of course he would understand that Emma has to prioritise her singles - but this was no ordinary event, he's struggling to accept the end of his career and was looking forward to at east another match at wimbledon and having that whipped away woyld have hurt. hopefully now that Emma is sadly out of the singles it will become old news and folk will remember the lovely tribute on Thursday (and the years that led to it_. ps for anyone on instagram Matt Little has posted a fab tribute created by his wife.

According to The Times, Emma gave a different reason for withdrawing to the Murrays than the one she gave publicly. Have put article link in newspaper thread.
