Sadly, Choinski was the only survivor to reach the main draw.

I just started watching the US Open and then it sunk in... the first slam in the post-Andy era. I am a big fan of Emma and feel she has to be given time to learn her craft, but even so, quite an existential moment in my life...
Know how you feel David

Choinski fought back from 0-2 to level the match at 2-2 sets but
Baena took the 5th. Kudos to Choinski for battling so hard.

Evo lost a very, very tight set but Khachanov took it 7'6(6).
It's best of 5 so maybe Evo can get a fix on the next 3!
Jack Draper is up a set and nearly the 2nd against Zhang: 6'3, 5'0
Sallydaisy
27-08-2024, 18:25

Evo doing battle royal against Khachanov.
The Russian was 4-1 in the 5th set. Dan has broken back
and held and is now 40-15* on the Khachanov serve and
hoping for another break to bring it back to 4-4.

Absolutely amazing. Well done Dan!! :cheer::cheer:
Amazing win for Dan. Im not sure how he did that, could hardly move at 0 - 4 in final set.
Then he came to life. It was so awesome to watch.
So happy for him.

In the R1 battle of holders of only one Grand Slam title ... followed by various injuries ...
Sofia Kenin (OZ GS 2020) d Emma Raducanu (USO 2021) 6'1, 3'6, 6'4.
Dans match was amazing and it was so good to see him back to his fighting form again! We’ve missed it!:bravo:
Shame about Emma but maybe she needs to start listening to advice given to her a little more. She has amazing talent!
oop for Thursday - h ttps://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/schedule/schedule11.html
Katie 2nd on Court 5, followed by Jack and then Dan.
Katie out in very disappointing circumstances.
Jack looking good so far.
Well done to Dan. I watched the highlights on catch up. He channeled his inner Andy Murray.

Jack through to R3, 6'4, 6'2, 6'2.
Evo just started his R2 match; not sure how much he'll have in the tank tonight. He's up against Mariano Navone ARG, currently WR36, aged just 23 v Dan's 34.
Navone has just broken Dan's serve in the 2nd game ... will serve at *2-0.
Sallydaisy
29-08-2024, 21:37
Dan has recovered the break and is about to serve at *2-3.
:peace:
:superman:
Dan obviously found the reserve tank.
He won in straight sets. Well done. 6:4, 6:3, 6:3.
Well done to Jack and Dan. I wonder if Jack's glad that he won't be playing Carlos Alcaraz in third round, as I know the sports presenter on radio Five Live was shocked by his defeat to Botic van de Zandschulp.
Sallydaisy
30-08-2024, 08:46
Oh well done Evo!!!
He'll be picking up some much needed points, having dropped 500 points from his Washington win in 2023, by playing the Olympics with Andy.
Next up for Dan is Alex DeMinaur ...
... and for Jack Draper is Botic Van Der Zandschulp!!!
BVDZ knocked out Alcaraz - that's a bit of a shocker although the Spaniard has been off his game a tad of late.
Excellent wins for both guys! :bravo::GBflag::superman:
oop for Saturday - h ttps://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/schedule/schedule13.html
Dan vs DeMinaur is first night match on Louis Armstrong at midnight.
Jack vs Van Der Zandschulp is second match on Grandstand after a WTA match, so probably around 6 pm.

Jack in great form as the draw opens up;well done! Dan goes out to De Minaur though 6-3,6-7,6-0,6-0. Looks as if that opening match took its toll. Certainly a surprise with both Alcaraz and Djokovic out early.
Jack vs Machac 2nd on Louis Armstrong on Monday after a WTA match that starts at 4.00 pm UK time.

it was interesting between Dimiytrov and Rublev,Dimi takiung the 5th 6-3. Navarro repeating her success over Gauff at Wimbledon, a bit closer this time though. Popyrin could not repeat his success,Tiafoe taking it in 4 sets.
Good luck to Jack Draper.
Jack is doing rather well. In the lead 6-3 6-1 1-0 and broke in last set.
Maybe he will win the shortest match in the US open.;)
He has just missed the shortest match according to commies.
Sallydaisy
02-09-2024, 18:25
Hmm, Jack was leading 4-1 in the 3rd set.
Both held so Jack is serving for the match at *5-2 but Machac has a break point at *30-40. Now deuce.
So, C'mon Jack Draper - just 2 little points for the win!

Such a strong performance from Jack, Machac did not know what had hit him (even if below par). Did have a few break points but Draper shut the door-awesome!:cheer::cheer:
Likely to be tougher in the quarters mind you.
Jack will be playing the winner of de Minaur and Thompson. That match is 4th on Louis Armstrong not before 10 pm.
Lets hope it is a long 5 setter.

Well done to Jack. Russell Fuller played an interview he did with James Trotman, on radio Five Live last night. James (Trotman) talked about Jack going back to his first fitness trainer Steve Kotze.

Good contest betwen Fritz and Zverev but Taylor was stronger. A challenge for Jack but has a shot here, hopefully plays well against De Minaur.
De Minaur had hardly any practice - commies speculating as to why. Ill or injured etc. ??????
Jack has done it. Into the semis in 3 sets and a fifth consecutive 3 set victory. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
Jack will play the winner of Sinner and Medvedev in the semis on Friday.

A marvellous performance from Draper, took it to De Minaur and crucially found the form when it became tighter in the 2nd. Alex was not at his best physically so a factor but Jack in a rich vein of form.:cheer::cheer:

Awesome play from Jack!
Utterly magnificent. I could say it's a shame he has to meet Sinner next but then I suppose he's dodged Alcaraz and Djokovic so can't complain. Plus he's got nothing to lose and the stats in the previous 2 rounds were against him. Just hope he puts up a good showing.
Jack vs Sinner is not before 8.00 pm tomorrow.
Great match from Jack. Will be traveling tomorrow so not sure I'll be able to watch.

Sinner d Draper 7'5, 7'6(3), 6'2
Terrific fight from Jack and those first 2 sets were so close it could have gone either way. Physically though the Brit struggled; in the 2nd set he threw up 2, possibly 3, times and also had to change his shoes because so much sweat from them was affecting the court.
Both players had the doctor on at one stage; Sinner for an injured left wrist and Jack for sickness.
Kudos to Jack for not giving up and putting his heart and soul into that match - he gave Sinner a tough ask to beat him but the Italian has more experience of being at that stage of a Slam (and going on to win it) which was a major factor in his win.
No idea which American will make it thought to the Final against Sinner.
Personally I hope it is Fritz but whatevvs .....
:tennis:
Such a close match. Imagine if Jack had been firing on all cylinders. He looked spent.

yes great effort from Jack but it was a very physical match and could not sustain it in the 3rd. A lot of his service games were extended , not quite at highest level but obviously Sinner put him under a lot of pressure. pity about the sickness,Draper did say it sometimes happens in tough moments.
Fritz will play the world no1 in the final after coming through over Tiafoe 6-1 in the 5th, The match though was not much longer than the 1st semi.
Huge congratulations to Mika Stojsavljevic, who has won the girls' title :GBflag::trophy:

Sinner the winner ... USO Champion!
:trophy:
6'3, 6'4, 7'5.
Not to be for Taylor Fritz in front of his home crowd but he made it tough
for the Italian, especially in the 3rd set.
Delighted for Sinner and given the scoreline, doesn't it emphasise how well Jack did even though not 100%? Bring it on Jack!
JAMES4578

I was glad Sinner got his 2nd slam, would have been interesting had it gone to a 4th set but Fritz did not really match the world no1 on the big points. yes it does show Jack in a good light.
