The International Tennis Federation announced, today, the September stage will now be seven home or away ties played over two days instead of the four group stages played over six days. The seven winning teams will join a host nation in the Final 8 in November. The bidding process for the Davis Cup Final 8 is under way and an announcement will be made at some point.

So, it is back to Home or Away ties with a qualifying round early February and the next round mid September. A tie will be played over 2 days. When will the host for the Finals be decided?

Certainly a move in the right direction, better atmosphere with Home and away Ties (even if just watching at home)

I won't be travelling to Japan for the 2 days of DC in February. Maybe some of those who longed for the return of the home or away ties will make the trip?

JAMES4578

Cannot see many making the trip to Japan, hopefully get the win though!

For the home and away ties, before it changed, we last played Germany in Munich in 1973. Israel was in 2006.

The team has been announced, and I wonder when we last fielded such a low-ranked side?

The team is Cam Norrie, Jake Fearnley, Billy Harris and Neal Skupski.

GB team is now Thornley, Harris and Choinski plus the doubles guys. When was the last time our team didn't feature Andy, Cam or Dan ?
It's going back to the Euro/Africa days.
To answer my own question, it appears to be July 2016 in Serbia when Kyle won 2 singles, plus Dom & Jamie winning the doubles, to lead GB to a 3-2 victory.

We were at that tie in Belgrade - the only time I've ever been (or will go) to Serbia.
Pat and I travelled by train and stayed at the Radisson Blu, took trams to arena.

The Serbs thought we'd never beat them on clay ... but we took along some Scottish weather. IIRC it absolutely poured down for 2 days.
It was an open arena, concrete bleachers so the rain water caused waterfalls from the top down and just soaked everything. They provided flat 'cushions' to soften the blow (I still have my 2!) but they soon soaked through. Nowhere to shelter at all, minimal loos and all in all it was a miserable experience ...
...except that GBR WON!

Some of our regulars toughed it out in the rain but I confess to giving up and went in search of somewhere warm and dry!

I think - someone might correct me here - that Andy came along to support the team.
Djokovic didn't play.

What has happened to Fearnley? There is an article from today on LTA page saying he is playing? And he is also listed in the team on the LTA page.

Choinski also now out with illness, replaced by Giles Hussey - ranked 388.

As Sally said above - the tie in Serbia was VERY wet, I have rarely been wetter even at home in Scotland - I remember thinking spectacle wearing Tipsarevic was at a disadvantage when playing Kyle that day. However, I also remember a lovely group meal in a restaurant by the river....

Chile lost their Davis Cup qualifier against Belgium when Cristian Garin refused to continue playing after being knocked over by opponent Zizou Bergs.

Having seen the video, it's extremely careless of Bergs to not notice his opponent was going to be walking past the net at the same time as Bergs was pulling his stupid gesture.
Although I don't think Garin was injured by the incident, he was certainly shook up and I'm surprised Belgium have claimed the win.
Neither side will want the tie replayed, playing the final rubber is impractical as both players will have their own schedules, so i think the ITF need to step up, award the tie to Chile, and send a message that over zealous celebrations won't be tolerated like this.
