View Full Version : Billie Jean Cup 2025
The Finals will be changed from a 12 team event to an 8 team event, it was announced today. The bidding process has begun to find a new host is underway.
Does anyone know when the draw is supposed to be done?

Finals will probably go to the current hotbed of tennis - Italy.
Team GB will face hosts The Netherlands as well as Germany in the qualifiers, which will take place from the 7th-13th of April.
The venue is The Hague's Sportcampus Zuiderpark.
It was also announced that the Finals will be held in Shenzhen, China.

Raducanu has withdrawn from the BJK tie next week in the Netherlands.
Imagine my surprise at this news.
The Red Button will be going our tie against Germany from 1pm (13.00pm) next Friday (11th).

'Imagine my surprise at this news.' and yet I can't blame Emma for withdrawing. She can barely string two weeks together on tour without some niggle or strain. I'm even surprised Katie is playing as she is also recovering, although hers is less long term.
Jodie Burrage brought in to replace her.
Netherlands beat Germany 3-0 today, so hopefully a Team GB win tomorrow to set up a winner takes all clash on Saturday.
A good 6-4 6-2 win for Sonay Kartal against Julie Niemeier, but Katie is a set down and struggling against Tatjana Maria.
Katie won her match in three sets. 1-6, 6-3, 6-1. Well done Katie :yahoo::yahoo:

Is Hawkeye in Holland, as I think Gill & Carolyn saw him
Yes I am. I was sat beside Gill and Caro, completely by chance.

Sonay Kartal, GBR v Eva Vedder, NED has just started. Vedder broke in the first game and held for a 2-0 lead in the first set, although Kartal did have a break back point.

Ah, that's better. Sonay held her own serve, broke and held so is now leading 3-2 with Vedder serving.

Well done Sonay but she had to go 3 sets to get the win!
GBR d NED 6'4, 4'6, 6'1
Only adrenaline got the Dutch lass through that second set, as well as Sonay not taking any of her bucketload of break points.
Katie all over the place there today. Loses 6-4 6-3, and was 3-1 up in the second set. There was talk of her playing in the doubles but I can't see it after that.
Yet she does, and with Jodie Burrage to boot... smacks of desperation to me.

for the BJK Cup tie with Japan in September, all 4 players in the team are singles players, Sonay, Katie, Emma and Jodie. although all can turn their hand dto doubles and Jodie/Katie won the decider against Holland in the last round.
Emma pulls out of the Finals to take a wildcard in Seoul.
I'll come out and say that she shouldn't get picked again as she has plainly decided where her priorities lie.

Whilst disappointing not a total surprise, at the moment Emma is projected to be just outside the top 32.
Team GB play Japan in the last of the quarter finals on Thursday.
A comfortable 2-0 win gets GB a semi final against the USA on Saturday at 10 am.
Sonay won 6-3 7-6, and Katie won 6-2 6-1.

Well done Sonay and Katie, Will be tough in semi mind you.
Sadly Sonay lost To Navarro, over to Katie who may find it tough against Pegula. Update: Katie takes the 1st set 6-3, one more Katie! Update: Sadly Katie also loses 6-3,4-6.2-6. US 2-0.
Both matches very similar, off to a flyer before a drop in level coinciding with the US raising theirs.

A good effort but ultimately could not maintain the level required.
Italy swept the US aside in the final with two straight sets wins.
Looks like the extra days rest may have made the difference.

Likely a factor, the straights sets win for Cocciaretto over Navarro was surprising though and Paolini had an emphatic 6-4,6-2 win over Jessica Pegula.
