Katie Boulter had a 3-1 lead in the 1st set but Stearns has clawed her way back into it.
Katie now serving at *4-5 to stay in the 1st set.
Stearns breaks the Boulter serve again and takes the 1st set 6'4.

Katie Boulter out of Miami.
Stearns didn't start well but won the match in 2 sets 6'4, 6'2.
Billy Harris still to play later on this evening.

Jacob vs Bonzi on at 3.00 pm on Court 1
followed by Cameron vs Bu
I heard Emma Raducanu has already split from her coach Vladimir 'Vlado' Platenik.
Eliot Spizzirri beat Billy Harris 7 - 6 (7 - 2), 3 - 6, 6 - 2.

Technically platenik was only there on a trial basis, anyway good Emma had comfortable win but a kind draw and much tougher against another Emma (Navarro) in next round.
Pity for katie and Billy.
Jacob Fearnley just taken to a decider by Bonzi, 7-6(6) 2-6.
Jacob won the third set 6-4!
Cam Norrie out already, lost 6-4 6-2 to Bu.
Bu who, you might say...
Would be a good knock knock joke
Knock knock,
Whose there
Bu
Bu who.

Glad Jacob got the win in the end, pretty poor from Cameron mind Bu.

Bit of a shock with Alcaraz going down to Goffin 5-7,6-4,6-3 , his first match at the event. Hopefully goes well for Jack, bit of a challenge for Jacob.
Zverev beat Fearnley 6-2 6-4.

Mensik took the 1st set 7'6(2) v Jack Draper.
The Czech, ranked #54), was knocked out in R2 in Indian Wells by Khachanov and then played a
Challenger in the Dominican Republic, losing in the SF to Dzumhur.
Jack will have to pick up his game pronto ...
2 TBs. Pretty sure it's normal for the winner at IW to struggle in Miami.
Yes, tried unsuccessfully to find some stats on that.

Very rare for any player to get the Sunshine Double ...
JAMES4578

Disappointing , pity Jack did not maintain lead in the 1st. However did not really expect a deep run.

None of the Semi-Finalists in Indian Wells (including Draper the eventual winner)
won a round at this year's Miami Masters. All had Byes in R1.
All out in R2 = Alcaraz, Draper, Medvedev and Rune.
;)
Didn't they have a first round bye?
JAMES4578
23-03-2025, 10:44
yes all seeds had 1st round byes, it was their first match but 2nd Round.
Sallydaisy
23-03-2025, 11:56
Yes, I've just corrected my post.
Not always an advantage to have a first round bye as the opponent in the second round will have had a match on the surface and got more used to the conditions.

Tsitsipas the lastest top tenner to fall, perhaps not great surprise it was Korda who took it 7-6,6-3 mind you. Goffin could not follow up big win going down to Nakashima 6-3,6-7,6-3. It will Djokovic v Musetti next after they won their perspective matches.

Coco Gauff lost to Magda Linette who is 12 years older than her American opponent.

Filipino Wild Card, Alexendra Eala, WR150, aged 19, is romping through the seeds in Miami.
She's just beaten [2] Iga Swiatek to make it into the Semi-Finals, 6'2, 7'5, in 1hr 41mins.
She's already beaten former GS champions Keys and Ostapenko en-route to the SF.
Quite a remarkable run given she's only been playing ITF75k or Challengers up to now.
Yes it is remarkable. She is at Rafa's academy in Majorca so will be learning a thing or two there.

Frenchman Fils has beaten Zverev to reach the QF in Miami.
JAMES4578
27-03-2025, 10:25
Another surprise, Fils outplayed Zverev in the end though. A close one between Dimitrov and Cerundolo which Grigor took 6-7,6-4,7-6. He will face the winner of Djokovic and Korda which shall now be played today.
oop for today

Thanks Cazza - still recovering from last night's late matches.
The Battle of the Brits in the Men's Doubles semis is won by the all British pair of Glasspool and Cash, who beat Patten and Heliovaara.
Nole strolls into the final with a 6-2 6-3 win over Dimitrov.
Well at least Jack went down to a finalist!
JAMES4578
29-03-2025, 11:51
Whilst Dimitrov broke in opening game did not exactly provide much of a challenge, possibly previous match took its toll. Hopefully Mensik will have enough left after tough battle with Fritz but Djokovic obviously the favourite. Maybe gives some comfort to Jack.

Rain has halted play early on in the Ladies Doubles Final with the score 3-0 in the first set.
That'll mean a delay to the start of the Mens Final.
Sallydaisy
30-03-2025, 19:06
Play not expected to resume until 8.30pm UK time.
Possibility of moving the Ladies Doubles to another court so that Djokovic v Mensik can get started.
Play not before 11.30 pm.
Mensik shocks Djokovic in straights!
Mensik had nothing to lose. Just before his first match Mensik went to the referees office to withdraw from the tournament because of an injury but couldn't withdraw as the office was closed for lunch. A physio then treated him and pursuaded him to continue.
Well done Mensik

Wow! Jakub Mensik - what a run to the trophy!!!
:trophy:
And what a very tight match - even if it was a straight sets win.
7-6(4), 7-6(4) and they each notched up 76 points.
It's where those points came that made the difference ...
Fantastic result - congratulations to Mensik :trophy::cheer::cheer:

Actually thought Mensik had a chance if he came out firing, still tough challenge to overcome Djokovic in only his 2nd ATP final. An awesome performance where he showed his steel and some incredible shots on the big points. Definitely coming of age and another young player in the mix. Maybe not so good for Andy but some thrilling tennis and was delighted for Jakub! yes was surprised to hear he nearly withdrew from the tournament , maybe some pressure was off but an amazing run-well done!:cheer::cheer:
Well done Mensik, although wanted Djokovic to win (can't believe I'm saying that) for Andy. Was a good match and enjoyed watching.
Jack lost to the eventual winner, hope that makes him feel better although as has been said hard to do the Indian Wells/Miami double.
