What a load of rubbish the mixed doubles is IMHO. Pathetically short sets and so disrespectful of players for whom doubles is their bread and butter!

cazza99
19-08-2025, 17:44
Think this mixed doubles would be fine for an exhibition event, but not for a grand slam event.

Only 16 teams is also very disrespectful.

Not a great fan of this format for a slam but nonetheless quite enjoyed it. Jack Draper and Jessica pegula though to the semis with wins over Carlos/Emma (4-2,4-2) and Medvedev /Andreeva (4-1,4-1) Jack certainly playing well with Jessica, not the best from Alcaraz mind you . They will play Swiatek/Ruud in the semis who got past Keys/Tiafoe and McNally/Musetti (both 4-1,4-2). The other semi between Erani/ Vavassori and Collins/Harrison.

I am enjoying it as a sort of demonstration tournament. But the matches are so short - blink and you'll miss them.

While I'm not in favour of this gimmick of an event, the matches certainly attracted a good attendance. From what I saw, the stands on both courts were pretty full, which probably helped swell the attendances on some of the qualifying courts. It was good to see some of the ladies going toe to toe with the with their ground strokes, Iga especially more than held her own.

Jack and Jessica lost in the semis.

cazza99
21-08-2025, 14:45
I thought Jack and Jessica were going to win being what was it 8-4?? up. But it wasn't to be.

Last year's mixed doubles champions, Errani/Vavassori, won the mixed doubles this year. It shows that they should have included more mixed doubles specialists into the event. At least the prize money has boosted the income of some proper doubles players anyway.

Jack came through in 4 sets.
Cam won 2 sets before his oppo retired, so he's also through.

was not plain sailing for Jack but be did step up when it mattered which was encouaging, hopefully will find another gear as the tournament progresses. whilst Korda was not fully fit seemed positive for Cameron.

JAMES4578
26-08-2025, 19:11
katie had Kostyuk at 0-40 when she served for the match but not to be going down 6-4,6-4, Sonay was hampered in the 3rd set as she lost to 18th seed Haddad Maia 6-3,1-6,6-1.

Raducanu through to R3 with a 60min dominant win 6'2, 6'1 over Janice Tjen.
in R1 the Indonesian Qualifier defeated 24th seed Kudermetova.

Next up for Emma is either Rybakin or Valentova.

Sallydaisy
27-08-2025, 17:41
Jack Draper has withdrawn from the US Open, giving Zizou Bergs a W/O into R3.
Apparently the discomfort from Jack's arm has worsened and he needs to rest it.

Ostapenko accuses Townsend of having no class or education because she didn't apologise for a net cord that won her the match.
One point doesn't decide the match, even if it's match point.
Maybe Townsend forgot tin the heat of the victory, but once accused, she's not going to back-track.
Only at the US Open....

JAMES4578
28-08-2025, 16:29
Really gutting for Jack but no other option, needs to take time with recovery. Certainly it was a good win for Cameron and some drama, tighter than need be though. Djokovic next.

Seems to be typical Ostapenko , the 2nd set was decisive anyway even if the etiquette was not observed.

After two very comfortable wins it will be Rybakina the 9th seed next for Emma.

Jacob Fearnley plays Zverev at midnight tonight on Louis Armstrong court.

Emma Raducanu plays Rybakina at 4 pm Louius Armstrong tomorrow at 4 pm.

Zverev d Fearnley in 3 sets.

JAMES4578
29-08-2025, 15:11
Much as expected for Jacob really, did have a later charge with a few incredible shots in the 3rd when he came back from 1-5 to 4-5 but left it a bit late. Tsitsipas out 7-5 in the 5th to Altmaier whilst Sinner cruised losing only 7 games to Popyrin. was not the best from Swiatek but after easy first set but got through 6-4 in the 3rd over Lamens.

JAMES4578
29-08-2025, 18:32
unfortunately Emma was never really in the match against Rybakina, lost serve early in both sets going down 6-1,6-2. Elena was dominant in a powerful display and constantly put Raducanu under pressure but still disappointing Emma could not offer more resistance. oh well, some progress made this year obviously but more improvements needed.

Hawkeye
30-08-2025, 09:06
Cam lost to Nole in 4 sets, so that's the singles done. Plenty of doubles interest though.

JAMES4578
30-08-2025, 16:00
A good effort from Cameron certainly for the first half of the match, Djokovic though seemed to take control once he broke back early in the 3rd when Norrie had some momentum after taking the 2nd set Breaker. Norrie though could soon be back in the top 30.

Biggest upset thus far as Auger- Aliassime gets the better of zverev 4-6,7-6,6-4,6-4. A big win for Felix but Sacha has not excelled in recent slams. Coco Gauff was also very much outplayed by Naomi Osaka 6-3,6-2 in the last 16.

JAMES4578
06-09-2025, 20:44
sadly Salisbury/Skupski lose ther final to Granollers/Zeballos 3-6,7-6,7-5. Had 3 consecutive championship points at 5-4 in the 3rd on oppenents serve but could not capitalise. Still another good run!
