Youzhny's withdrawn from Rotterdam so Federer is through to the QF and will play Nieminen.

I watched Delpo and Federer's matches today - both played well. Nice contrast of styles in Delpo/Llodra and lots of good variety in Federer/Mahut.

I didn't see it coz it was on around 2 a.m. our time! And he's not playing today. boo!

Interesting tweet by DavidLaw@ Mentioned by @TennisReporters that Milos #Raonic clocked 155mph serve last night. Joint second fastest recorded behind Ivo Karlovic (156mph)

Milos certainly was firing! See that Fed won te ctb 11-9, whilst yet another retirement as Baggy only lasted 3 games with Berdy! In San Paolo Nalbandian thrashed SAimon 6-3, 6-2.

it's a pity that Berdych and Delpo had to meet in the semi - i would have liked one of them to have the opportunity to put Fed out before the final. Still maybe Davydenko will come up trumps - he seemed to be back to his old self in the latter part of yesterday's match against Gasquet.

Yes I think I'd make Berdych the slight favourite too, really hard match to call though. It's difficult to know exactly where Delpo's form is at after yesterday's disastrous showing by Troicki. But he does seem to be hitting his forehand very well this week, hope he wins. :)

I was very impressed with Davydenko in that match, he took the ball on early and smashed it! whether this is a flash in the pan or the start of a come back! he should be happy with his game.

As for Gasquet, once again he seems to not have any gears?

Bellucci is such a mental midget .........

Federer just broke Davydenko to go *5-4 up and be serving for the match.

So close there from Davydenko, he had his chances at *0-40 but didn't take them. He played some great tennis though, hope he continues to play well for the rest of the season.

B***** !! We had a power cut when Davy was a set and a break up - I really hoped that when the power came back on Davy would have won - not to worry Delpo will do the job tomorrow I hope! I believe Davy's wife is 7 months.

Agree - as far as I can see Fed has cruised this week against easy opponents.

Hope he will be gone soon. It is better for Andy that Delboy does not regain the form that won him the USO title.

I'll be glad to switch to the cycling after this really boring final. :rolling:

Del Potro has had a few chances but has just been frustrating today! Fed wasn't brilliant against Davy but has stepped it up today, though of course he's had some help! Fed takes it 6-1, 6-4. Predicitably Cowan says it's the Fed of old!

I don't really bother with what any commentators say about ANY of the players really. I've found a few live feeds that have been devoid of commentary, and really enjoyed the absence of rhetoric/ requirement to talk to fill time between points..

The final was a decent match though. DelPotty will rue those 7 break points, but the better player won.

I'd have liked Delpo to win but Fed deserved it today - he's so tough to beat indoors and played a great match.

Much as I hate to say it, you have to hand it to Fed - he's certainly turned the heat up today.

You know, I don't think Fed was that great. Potty played into his hands (Fed loves hard pace) and had no apparent B strategy. He had numerous break chances on Fed's serve. When I think about it further, Davydenko was a set and a break up yesterday as well. So, imagine if he'd been playing against the likes of Djokovic or Andy.

Alis
19-02-2012, 17:59
Delpo certainly showed how vulnerable he is today. IMO his movement is just not good enough to challenge the top guys and whether he can improve that is questionable. I think since he won the US the others have moved up a gear. Fed definitely played better today than he had for the rest of the week but, I agree RL, he wasn't brilliant.

Yeah, his movement is shocking. Fed kept going behind him. Give Fed credit for using his head at least. Potty doesn't seem to have much between his ears, I'm afraid.

With tennis players, there is certainly a general template for the ideal physique.

Shouldn't be too small. In the ATP, these days, the more a player is below, say, 5' 11" - 6 feet in height the more disadavantaged they are. Less inclined to be able to hit big shots, whether serve or off the ground. Davydenko, Ferrer.

Shouldn't be too tall either. Fedal used to be the ideal height - I think they're both 6' 1"" - although that ideal height might be between 6' 1" and 6' 3" - Nole is 6' 2" and Andy is 6' 3"

Go over, say, 6' 4"- 6' 5" and I'd say that this is getting too tall. Players of that height simply aren't as mobile - a huge necessity in the modern game, where fewer and fewer cheap points are available. Also, player of such height seem more prone to injury.

I don't think that any of the tallest players have ever dominated the sport - yet! Usually they are more 'impact' players. Del Potty, Ivanisevic, Krajicek (he was 6' 5"!).

It's becoming that way in the women's game too (I know you're all dying to know that!). Azarenka, Kvitova, Sharapova, are 5' 11, 6' 0" and 6' 2" respectively. It's definitely a taller person's game, these days.

The same goes with build too. Players should not be too bulky either, esp if it comes at cost to their movement.
