My mistake. On checking Fox News (http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2012/02/16/monfils-withdraws-from-san-jose-with-knee-injury/) he didn't withdraw until Wednesday night so tourney was well under way. Just he hadn't started. Sorry for any upset Ace! would you have been complaining if Strode had won the tourney?

How can a nobody replace Monfils!!
It doesn't matter when he pulled out, nobody knew he had a injury! if he played a few games, then dropped out then thats to bad, but he didn't . My earlier statement stands.
J, if you are carrying on then how can it be fair to include the bonus??
"4) 100 point bonus for getting two winners right
5) 150 point bonus for getting three winners right"

How can a nobody replace Monfils!!
The tourney was well underway when Monfils withdrew with a knee injury ahead of his first match on Wednesday. He had a Bye in R1 and must have thought he was fit to play or he'd have pulled out before the draw was even made.
Under ATP Rules Monfils was replaced by a Lucky Loser i.e. one of the guys knocked out in Qualifying.
How can a nobody replace Monfils!!
It doesn't matter when he pulled out, nobody knew he had a injury! if he played a few games, then dropped out then thats to bad, but he didn't . My earlier statement stands.
J, if you are carrying on then how can it be fair to include the bonus??
"4) 100 point bonus for getting two winners right
5) 150 point bonus for getting three winners right"simple like with any guessing/prediction game there is an element of luck, it just happens to be your turn to get get the bad luck this week, others have lost POTW before they played
there is no way round it, there is no mechanism to allow us to swap and change players mid week it just wouldn't be practical
and it wouldn't be fair to those who didnt pick monfils to scrap that whole element of the competition if their player goes on to win
What i'm getting at, is, if i knew he had this injury, i wouldn't have picked him to win.
This is not a big tournament, so, why he waited to the last min to drop out i dont understand.
hfwardhouse
18-02-2012, 11:59
But how could you possibly know he had an injury? none of us knew.
"none of us knew", Thats right Hfwardhouse, i always base my entry on how fit a player is,
even if there was a hint of an injury, (there was nothing in the media or from Monfils) i wouldn't have picked him to win!
hfwardhouse
18-02-2012, 13:00
But that's just the luck of the draw Ace! - we've all picked players who've been injured at one time or another - obviously you wouldn't have picked him to win if you'd known he was injured - but for all we know, the injury could've been picked up in practice at the start of the week ...
Potty and Berdych have started:)
Potty and Berdych have started:)
Don't take this the wrong way, but I hope you're even more upset at the end of that one! Potty broke to 15 in the 1st game - good start.
This match looks like is going to be very good!
Monster hitting, neither are holding back!
Sallydaisy
18-02-2012, 13:47
DelPo gets the first break - now serving at *4-3 up.
Berdych with to many errors and more likely to have them the longer the rally, first set Potty 6-3
Berdych feels everything is going against him saying potty taking a hour for hawkeye, lol
They really need to look at the rules for challenging.
6-3 3-0 potty
What i'm getting at, is, if i knew he had this injury, i wouldn't have picked him to win.
This is not a big tournament, so, why he waited to the last min to drop out i dont understand.
Aren't the top players meant to keep quiet and go to tournaments to do publicity when they can't play due to short term injuries otherwise they lose ranking points.
At the top of my head, I think it's a fine too Cazza
Well, this match has turned into a walk in the park, Potty WINS 6-3 6-1 his serving has been untouchable
http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/aa337/j_acobite/COC12WEEK3day6a-1.png

Unless i've missed something, Rotterdam is the only match that matters tomorrow. Although Jay could be joint top if Fed and Volandri both win.
On todays evidence, I'm not confident.
