Hi all
We are hoping to set up another block booking for the April Tie from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th.
Time is tight so please post if you are interested in coming along.
Obviously the timing might not be ideal for everyone as it's Easter holidays but we hope for a good turn out again!

I am Sally. Will be just moi. Normal service is resumed. Back on computer. Had a fantastic weekend. Dan Evans is my hero!! Probably say more later re tennis and apres tennis. It's nice to be home though, Jeannie, it's very cold here.:)
I am too Sally, will just be me for all 3 days.
Was another fantastic weekend, meeting up with everyone and the tennis was just amazing. Young Dan played out of his skin, Colin and Rosco were awesome as usual and James, just felt so sad for him. That being said brilliant team spirit, inspired by the fabby Leon.

I had no problem, Maureen. Got on the site & was quoted £116.85 for 3 nights (fri, Sat, Sunday nights). As its Easter weekend, I would expect it to go higher. It's the same as I paid this weekend. Hope you get through OK.
By the way,the weather nice & sunny & fairly mild all journey & in edinburgh. Isla says it's been nice & sunny all weekend!:no worries:

Almost certainly Gill and I will be coming .... Gill was straight on to check flights etc as soon as we got home! Have yet to break the news to my poor abandoned husband yet .... I will wait till the weekend as we hardly see each other when he is on afternoon shift as he is this week.

Hi Sally! I'm desperate to join the forum folk again at Braehead in April so am in the process of trying to work around the fact that it's Easter weekend!! I don't imagine everyone at this end will be happy if DO decide on going! Like Caro I'm breaking it to hubby in little stages!! Is it ok if I give you a definite response by the weekend or do you need to know sooner?? Already excited at the thought of it....still boring everyone silly with my stories of this past, fantastic weekend!

The Campanile where we stayed was actually much nicer than the Travel Lodge - the only downside was the fact that the rest of you weren't staying there, and the distance - however walking over to the arena wasn't too bad - it's less than a mile and a half - and in the evening, we found taxis very reasonable - less than £4 - so if you can't get the Travel Lodge, you could consider that. I'm not aware of anywhere else within a reasonable radius.
I'm not sure what we are doing at this point. I got the travelodge ridiculously cheap last time (£67 for 3 nights) and at the moment everywhere is at least double that :( Add travel, tickets and food for the weekend and I could almost afford one flight to the USA....so still trying to decide if we should go. Add in Easter complications and well...it's complicated

I'm just finding it so incredibly frustrating - no school so we could make it - yes I probably would have to be here for church commitments but April is a rubbish month for me farming wise - it's the only time of year I get hands on with the outdoor stuff :crying: :crying: .... I hate sheep!
How can anyone possibly hate working with sheep? Bizarre!
I feel your pain Jane - I know that if I don't go I will kick myself but there are financial considerations....must be worse when it is silly sheep :(

Well obviously there are financial considerations as well - hence my absence from 2 of the days this weekend but with an 87 yo Mum In Law who insists on "helping" and is definitely not fit to do so, I have to be here to make sure she doesn't overdo things!
Parents (especially in law) are just so much trouble aren't they....it's like they become children aw=gain and need looking after :(

14-02-2012, 22:24
Exactly!!! She forgets how exhausting lambing time is! I need her fit so she can do the lunches for the boys!
Had a FAB weekend, folks. Gr8 atmosphere at the tennis - & you were all so friendly-yet again.
Can u put Jane & I down for 2x 3Day tkts for the April tie?
Cheers,
Joyce

For those who don't yet know what they are doing I think you've got about 2 weeks to decide.
I'll post up full details when I've heard back from the LTA.
As to hotels ........
The Travelodge remains the most convenient (but basic as we all know) since it's an easy walk back from Xscape and the Braehead Arena. It's easy to pop back there to change, collect stuff during the day and so on. I don't think they've put their prices up for the tie; whatever is being quoted is likely to be because it's Easter w/end. They're currently charging £40'ish for bed only on Thursday/Friday. You get a slightly better rate if you stay more than 3 nights on the trot.
The Campanile is a step up in terms of quality and they are doing a decent deal of £39/night including breakfast. It has better facilities (including curtains at the windows!). However, it's stuck on it's own and, as KO has already posted, it's a good mile and half walk to the Arena in the morning but a reasonably priced taxi ride back.
Given we've all got different criteria for what we do outside of watching tennis it's perhaps advantageous that there are a couple to choose from. Most of us go our separate ways after eating in the evening in Xscape but I'm sure the hotel bars will be doing good business over the Easter weekend.
;)

The Campanile is coming up as more expensive than the travelodge now! £135 v £116 for the travelodge for the 3 days. That doesn't include breakfast either. Having a bit of a nightmare!! Flights were fine when we looked a few days ago, now mega expensive unless we arrive at 2pm on the Friday which we may have to do ......
Won't see Steve properly till tomorrow to finally break the news and pary he will be ok about it, so won't be able to book till Sat / Sun .... fingers crossed

Hopefully I'll have time later this week to post some pics from last weekend. Great to see so many people again - sorry I couldn't join in much of the apres-tennis, but it was a good opportunity to visit my niece in Glasgow.

Last time it was at Easter weekend was at Birmingham, so I was able to go just for the Saturday as I'm in church on Good Friday and Easter Sunday - but it would be impossible to go to Glasgow just for the day  It really is ridiculous that it's at the same venue yet again :grrr:

Lots of moans about it being Easter weekend, but not one person seems to hold the church responsible for the clash.
Lots of moans about it being Easter weekend, but not one person seems to hold the church responsible for the clash.or if you take it to its ultimate conclusion the Romans are to blame , and i suppose raven is about the nearest we have . so its her fault
If you really take that to its ultimate conclusion, you have to blame the Jews/Israelis for setting the date of the Passover. But no doubt it would be considered anti-Semitic to blame them so the church will have to take the blame for the date of Easter after all.

Suggestions seem to be that Andy will not go to Braehead after the shock exit at Indian Wells but nothing official.
Wouldn't surprise me if he didn't. Felt he was hinting when he talked about team GB consolidating where they are rather than moving to the world group. This is a crucial time for him so if he doesn't go to DC I hope he doesn't get a load of flack. He needs to look out for his career first and foremost at the mo IMHO.

My thoughts exactly Pat.
..... and we'll have fun whoever is playing! As proved at the last tie which was one of the most exciting I have ever been to!
Having said that I wish they could sort out DC so that it was more important to the players like it used to be

I think it would be more important to Andy if there was more strength in depth. I can understand why he wouldn't feel the need to help GB back into the World Group when we are unlikley to achieve anything worthwhile once we get there.

Yep, I was trying to work out how they'd do it. It's possible to drive to Glasgow in 6hrs from here (ahem) and I think it takes you about 5.5hrs from Glasgow to your ferry so that'd take until approx 5am. I don't know how long the ferry crossing is.
There's a main sorting office at High Wycombe so it's got quick access to the rail lines and no doubt goes o'night London to Glasgow and beyond but there's still a fair bit of man-handling of post to get it onto the right trains. The Royal Mail abandoned the Mail Sorting trains some time back but I think some have been reinstated which would allow quite a lot of presorting ahead of arrival at main Scottish stations.

I'm afraid I'm not going to Davis Cup after all .....
:crying:
I knew back in February that the most I could do would be Friday because someone had provisionally booked me to work on Easter Sunday. I'd hoped to travel up late Thur night, stay 2 nights and leave Glasgow at 5am Saturday morning to ensure I was home in time to cover the prep required for Sunday. Unfortunately, the client requirements are quite complicated and I need more time ahead of Sunday to ensure all goes well. It'd be a very costly trip for a few hours tennis and I'd be worrying most of the time about getting back without incident; can't afford to jeopardise business 'cos I'm self-employed.
I've laid in a small stock of wine to ensure I don't miss out ......
:wino:
Hope you all have a jolly good time!
Please look after anyone who is joining us for the first time at Davis Cup (tie-break!).

Well, there's an hour to go so hopefully some of the others will find you!!!
You might spot Jambon/Kels/Lankster/Michelle/LizCurran over the other side - they're often by the player area after autographs.
;)
We were there at 11 each day without fail :)

Saw Lizzim and bf on tv yesterday. Somebody's probably posted that already but I haven't had time to read the whole thread.

Had a slightly weird end to the weekend - we got back to the hotel to find we couldn't get into our room! The electronic key card didn't work, and when a passing cleaner tried hers, it didn't work either. We were cold and damp, but I trekked down to reception to ask, and was told that probably the battery had run out in the door mechanism - these things run on batteries?!?
The receptionist didn't know how to change the battery, but she let us in with her manual pass-key, and said that the guy who could change the battery would come on shift in about half an hour and he would do it then. Two hours later, no sign. So I went back down and the chap on reception said he would be up shortly - he was, but only to tell us that they only have one "gadget" to open the door mechanism so you can change the battery, and the guy who has it wasn't available. Naturally, I asked if there was some way they could get it from him, and they said "no, he's not in Scotland"! Apparently, he'd gone out of the country, and "didn't realise he had it on him"! Obviously, keeping a spare in the office wasn't something they'd considered.
So, basically, our only option was to change room - now as many of you probably already know, Dave & I don't travel light! It took a good half an hour for us to gradually transfer everything - shoes, toothbrushes, books, clothes, cameras etc etc - from one room to the other...
When I went down to give them the original card key back, I said I would expect to see some sort of gesture-of-goodwill on the bill when we check out tomorrow, but I'm not convinced!
We've been out for the evening, but are now back in the new room - drinking mugs of wine, because there aren't any glasses :big grin:

That's very odd - the same thing happened to me on Sunday, in the sense of not being able to get into my room despite numerous attempts - they just coded another key for me (as if I had just arrived) and I got in fine using that. The same thing had happened to the person just behind me at reception (a bit too much of a coincidence?) and they did the same for them too.
I wonder if the problem with your room is as simple as that too and it's just that the two(?) competent members of staff (Dorota and one of the men, whose name I didn't get) are both having a day off today - the rest seemed nice enough but pretty clueless. (not that it's necessarily their fault, of course!)

Yes - most of them seemed very nice, but not too likely to be able to tie their shoelaces without a few hints :big grin:
You might be right, although the fact the the cleaner couldn't get in either was a bit weird - I would imagine her key should work on all rooms - having said that, if the battery had gone, how was it able to give us a red light when we stuck our key-card in...?
Had a brilliant weekend despite the loss. The "no tickets" issue was no problem other than on the first day when they had to get the supervisor to authorise. She then asked for our tickets
:confused::confused:
If we had tickets we wouldn't need replacements would we?!!
Really enjoyed everyone's company and a big :thanks: to Lizzim for the loan of her monster flag ... gonna have to get one for next year!
Glad to hear you may be up for an away tie tiebreak, it seems more likely. Hope a few more could manage it too. Me and Gill will definitely be up for it if somewhere accessible

Likewise - we've never been to an away tie before, so if it's somewhere in reasonably easy reach, it would be a whole new experience :)

If we went to an overseas tie we'd almost certainly be able (via the LTA) to get tickets behind the players i.e. in the reserved space for 'away' supporters.

Woo hoo! Posted on the other thread that I thought you would be able to get block booking seats via the LTA Sally. Wouldn't it be fantastic if a few of us could go? Getting excited already!!!
Wait a minute girl it could be South Africa yet!

That certainly was a bit of a palaver Fiona, but I suppose all was ok in the end! Hope you all found the hotel fine otherwise! I was in the same boat in a hotel a while ago now, and it was sorted very quickly.
