I don't know about him but I sure hope Rafa carries Spain's flag.
It will be great for the profile of tennis if either of them carry the flag for their country. Fed's a possibility for Switzerland I suppose but can't see Andy having a chance for GB - Chris Hoy perhaps?

I can see Andy hoisting the flag if he wins Wimbly but I'm sure they've decided who's gonna do it well ahead of the start.

From the ITF on Twitter:
Date for your diary!
Entries for the #OlympicsTennis (https://twitter.com/#%21/search/%23OlympicsTennis) event will be based on the world rankings of Monday 11 June #London2012 (https://twitter.com/#%21/search/%23London2012)
That date seems quite close to the Olympics - I'd have thought they would do the selections earlier.

Why earlier?
Most players will know well before then if they're likely to be involved and plan accordingly.
What the organisers seem to have done is treat it pretty much like a normal event i.e. with an Entry List published 6 weeks ahead of the Monday of the week the event starts and based on the rankings as at the date. That seems quite fair IMHO - and it is what all the main tour players are used to. June 11th is also the first ranking update after Roland Garros and before any grass court events are played - bearing in mind that for a change the 2012 Olympics tennis will be on grass.
Delighted for him as he really wants to do it! :yahoo:
Great for Rafa and for the profile of tennis!
Why earlier?

Dunno really, probably because they are making selections for other sports earlier.

Yes I did hear that, should be an interesting show! Whilst I enjoyed it Andy's appearence was pretty brief tbh. He basically said it was special playing for your country and he enjoyed Davis Cup as it was a bit different playing for a team. He said tennis was now very big in the olympics and he'd try and win both Wimbledon and the olympics, it would be perfect! There were shorts clips of his match at the olympics in Bejing and The Australian Open cermony 2010 when he lost to Federer.

The article seems to suggest Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy" for Roger Federer - maybe it's just me, but I think Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" would be far more appropriate :red devil:

....
He remembers facing Justine Henin in the final. She's a seven-time Grand Slam champion; she's also 5-foot-6.
''I aced her about 15 times,'' Isner said with a smile. ''Obviously she has unbelievable returns, but she's also kind of small. I kept hitting the serve out wide.
''It's fun to serve as hard as I can against the women. If I ever get the chance to play for Olympic gold, I'm not going to take it easy.''

One thing that will be different at the Olympics tennis will be the dress code - because unlike the normal Wimbledon edict of predominantly white the players can wear any colour of the rainbow (and some probably will).
Article here. (http://www.rt.com/sport/tennis/tennis-dress-code-olympics-williams-wimbledon-london2012-369/)
The London 2012 Games will present the tennis stars with a unique opportunity to flash colorful outfits at the staid Wimbledon courts. *The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club has a strict dress code, according to which all the players must appear on the courts in white. But those rules will be put aside during the Olympic tournament that Wimbledon will host this summer. Tennis queens, and perhaps kings, will be able to turn the courts into a podium, displaying the brightest and trendiest designs in sports fashion.
The traditional dark green backgrounds at the club will also be replaced by more colorful ones.

I'd have thought it would be a competing athlete. Sir Steve has won the most for GBR (5) but I suspect he's got another role to play during the Olympic ceremony.
Sir Chris has 4 Golds (as does Matt Pinsent) followed by Wiggins and Ainslie on 3 apiece.

Is Andy so well known he doesn't have to wear his ID ???
Gutted for Rafa but he would have been in the other half of the draw so it doesn't really help Andy.
Does anyone know when the draw is due to take place for this?

Eight tennis players are expected to carry their flags into the Olympic Stadium for the Opening Ceremony on Friday evening. It will be interesting to see whether carrying the flags – the ceremony is not scheduled to finish until 12.30am, and it will take at least an hour to get back across town to Wimbledon Village – will have an impact on their performances. The singles competition starts the next day.
I must say I was wondering why the opening ceremony was on so late. Not so good for those competing the next day.

You're kidding?! Could they not just have started early enough that the declaration of open was made at 2012?!!

They are just muppets those running the show who cares about themselves and the big Sponsors and TV get audiences, never mind the poor Athletes, who are they anyway according to the Hierarchy remember Wimbledon 3 weeks ago and Andy's saga at the Eleventh hour.

Think Andy is missing the Ceremony. Remember reading something about the Beijing Opening Ceremony and how much he'd enjoyed it then realised that the late night coupled with jet-lag had messed up his body clock and he didn't play well. As Team GB will be last out as Hosts all the athletes competing the next day should give it a miss. Really stupid arrangement and organisation.

Yes though in one sense pity to miss it best to think of the bigger picture. Certainly wouldn't be ideal for anyone competing on Saturday, though of course flag bearers will have to be there which includes a few tennis players.
