DUBAI 2012 - FINAL: Andy falls short in the Final, loses to Federer 5'7, 4'6

Andy beat the World #1 in 82 mins in their semi-final match to reach his first Dubai Final.

His opponent will be former #1 Roger Federer who won the Dubai title 4 times (03, 04, 05, 07).

As we all know Andy leads the H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=F324) 8-6 against Federer.

However, it's now 15months since they last played one another and there's been a shift at the top of the mens game in that time. Fedex is finding it harder to win against the top players (Andy, Nole, Rafa) these days whereas Muzzah has gained in confidence since his Grand Slam loss to the 30yr old Swiss player 2yrs ago.

It was honours even in 2010; Federer beat Andy in the OZ Final in January and in the RR stage at the O2 in November. Andy's wins came later in the year in the Finals at the Canada Masters and then at the Shanghai Masters. They have only ever met on hard courts - and that is Andy's favourite surface.

So, here's hoping Andy can produce some more terrific tennis tomorrow and take the title!!!

I'm quietly confident about this one! Andy's always had the measure of Fed. If you take out the WTF and USO losses (where I think Andy was defeated as much by the occasion as by his opponent) then the H2H is very good indeed. And Fed makes far more mistakes now than he used to.

More or less what I'm thinking David ;) Though always a chance of a letdown after such a fantastic performance today, I'm sure Andy will be motivated for another final with Fed and will have a good idea of the tactics he needs to employ, let's hope he can execute them consistently. Whilst Andy has had a few painfull loses to Fed in slams overall on the tour it's been a good matchup for him and there have been ocassions where he's got Roger rattled. Hopefully he'll have another good day and whilst we can't count on success, there are grounds for optimism if Andy is on his A game and he seeems to be in a good frame of mind right now!

In any case it has been a confidence building week and looking forward to the final!
