Muzzah meets the Missile ....... and it could be a cracker of a match.

One of the most prolific first servers against one of the very best returners in the game.

Andy Murray takes on 21yr old Canadian Milos Raonic for a place in R4 at the Miami Masters.

They've never met before so the H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=R975) is 0-0 - but this match has been widely anticipated because of the 2 characters it brings to the tennis court. The Missile has rocketed up the ranks over the last year and has reached a career high of #24 already (currently #26) not least because of his incredible serve (helped a bit by his 6'5" height).

As far as this year goes it's the Canadian who has the upper hand - in titles at least - having won ATP250 events in Chennai and San Jose (where a young Murray won his first title at 19) and reaching the Final of the Memphis ATP500 event. Andy has an ATP250 win from Brisbane to his credit so far this year - but some rather better results than Milos at the first Grand Slam.

This is likely to be quite a test for Andy but in his favour is a very good record against the big servers in the game - and he'll need all that experience to win this match.

It's probably going to be on Sunday but the OOP won't be out until later tomorrow night.

Tough opening set, but Milos stepped it up thereafter. Andy will certainly need to be on his toes but I'm sure he'll be up for it!

I don't think Andy will have a problem coz his return of serve is so good.

It's a shame for Milos that he keeps getting the top five players in his third rounds. Coz I just can't see him beating any of them at the mo.

Yes, Raonic is welcome to beat any other top four players, but NOT ANDY! Same goes for Tomic, and any other up-and-comers.

Come on, Andy, likely I won't be able to follow this match given the time difference and work. Want to see you back at No.3!

I agree too!
Andy has a very good chance in boosting his ranking and close in on Fed by going deep here, early round loss last year and fed getting to semies means Andy only has 10 points to defend whilst fed has 360. If Andy wins and Fed doesn't go past the semies he'll be within a 1000 points to Fed. (Andy wins = 8440, Fed in semies = 9350) All do-able I think!

It will probably come down to the quality of Andy's worst service game (or two) in each set. And Milos's, for that matter.
There is good serving and good returning but then there is unreturnable serving, even for somebody like Andy. I would not take this for granted. Andy is going to have to impose himself and not allow himself any walkabouts on serve, including any possible tiebreaks.
I last saw Milos against Melzer in Memphis and Melzer psyched him out of that match.
I certainly would not take this for granted and Andy will need to bring his best, or near best, tennis on court!
C'mon Andy!

Linda
24-03-2012, 20:10
I'm not worried. I was a little concerned about the first match, but once Andy's got past that one he should be able to reach at least the semis (in my bracket I have him reaching the final).

Milos and Kevin Anderson have retired from their doubles match after only three games, I hope they are both OK. Especially Milos, would be a shame if he had to withdraw against Andy too.

david1610
25-03-2012, 00:17
Miles on camera on Tennistv, as Baggy's coach!

PS Anderson already played today and I would imagine it might be precautionary on his part - perhaps he tweaked something and, let's face it, doubles is very much a secondary thing for the singles players so if in doubt....

PPS Unless he wilts, Baggy and Nole has the makings of a really good match!

Sallydaisy
25-03-2012, 01:27
Milos is the one who had a problem in the doubles earlier; from another forum and on twitter.

Milos retired from his doubles match with some sort of ankle injury, unclear how serious it is (was 1*-2 in the 1st, so it could be pretty minor or pretty serious.

Raonic looked fine. Suddenly at 2-1 changeover he calls for trainer. Retires on the spot. Let's hope its precautionary https://twitter.com/#!/RD_Tennistalk (https://twitter.com/#%21/RD_Tennistalk)
