from Sept 2011

Hi all - is there a thread for Andy's schedule? I don't seem to be able to find it.

Sorry Pam - we didn't set one up as not sure how long we'd be in this temporary forum.

This is what he's signed up for (i.e. on the Entry List) over the next month:-

12/9 - Davis Cup last 3 days of this week
19/9 - couple of days down time then travel to Far East to acclimatise
26/9 - Bangkok ATP250.
3/10 - Andy is on the Entry List for Tokyo (as is Rafa, Nole is down for Beijing, Feddy for neither)
9/10 - Shanghai Masters 1000. Compulsory event for Andy unless injured.

Thanks Sally - you are a star

Thanks for the info, Sally. He doesn't get much of a break.:|

Thanks for that !!

Thanks for info Sally. No FTM for 2 weeks.

Does anyone know if Andy is playing at Valencia?

The entry list isn't up yet for Valencia - it will probably be up in the next week or two. Entry lists for tournaments can be seen here: http://www.tennisteen.it/notizie/entry-list.html

Does anyone know if Andy is playing at Valencia?

I think I read somewhere that he's playing in Thailand instead of Valencia - don't know if that's correct though.

Thailand and Valencia are in completely different weeks.

You can see the ATP Tour schedule by going to their home page and then clicking on the drop down box at the very top with a header MENS.

The Far-East events run from 26/9 until Sunday 16/10.
Valencia starts 30th October so the entry list for it won't be out until next Monday.

Yes, I read that somewhere too. Although they are different weeks it could still be true - just a change of scheduling this year.

Although, given his stated intention of working towards #3 this year, maybe he will do both if it means an increase in points.

Is Andy still to play a 500 event? Or he is just playing Paris and WTF?

At the moment he's only listed to play Paris and WTF.
I think he might need to play another 500 so maybe he'll take a WC into Valencia?
So far though he's not on the Entry List for that event.

Thanks Sally, just wondered because is it 4 500 events they need to play? If so I think Andy only has played 3.

Yep - so far he has played 3 but it looks as if Dubai is included in his 500's by the ATP.

He entered Dubai, but withdrew with wrist injury, so he carries a 0 for that until 2012 - although I'm not clear why because he pulled out before the draw was made.
He's played 2 further 500's - Tokyo and Rotterdam - and can count another with Monte Carlo.
Rotterdam is showing as a non-countable (with a 0) even though it is a 500.

It's best 18 including WTF so he's got points from:-
1 x WTF
4 x Slams
8 x Masters
4 x 500's (only 3 counting incl Monte Carlo and the 0 from Dubai)
2 x 250's (Queens, Bangkok)
1 x non counting (Rotterdam).

I guess much depends on how he fares here in Shanghai. If he wins it and defends his title he's assured of the #3 ranking. If that is a major goal and he doesn't win here perhaps he'd go to Valencia? He's only defending 45points so a win there would deffo ensure that #3 spot.

Now that Andy has won Shanghai and has secured the number three slot it will be interesting to see where he will play next.

Don't think Andy will be making the trip to Spain or Switzerland, take a little break and come out in top shape for Paris and London.

didn't andy and jamie win the dubs last year in valencia?
anyone else think andy might try to play dubs there again, with jamie?
jamie needs the points and andy could sharpen up his net play.

I thought that might be a possibility too, Harriet. I suppose it depends on whether Jamie is down to play anywhere else next week. Do you think they would allow Andy to play the doubles without playing the singles?

Darren Cahill tweetted that he was going to play in Shanghai and Paris.

Andy certainly said that he was tired in Paris last year having played Valencia the week before. It would make sense to concentrate on Paris as it is a Masters 1000 and, hopefully, all the big boys will be there.

I understood he played the three tournaments in Asia in a row to cover the fact that he would not play Valencia this year. Of course, as he is chasing the year-end #3, he may ask for a wild card to play that week if he is feeling really strong.

When will we know for certain if Andy decides to play Valencia ? It starts next weekend so surely he must announce in the next 24 hours

I believe it's the prerogative of the tournament director to make any announcement about Wildcards.

Players (or their teams/contacts) are not supposed to jeopardise ticket sales one way or the other so tend not to say if they've withdrawn (or committed) until notifying the TD. I guess if it has been agreed then a player could speak about it but only usually only after a TD has got his PR stuff organised.

I was surprised Cahill had tweeted about it to Xenon and Lizcurran.
