Following the departure of Ian Ritchie, to the Rugby Football Union, Wimbledon have announced their new Chief Executive to be Richard Lewis, former GB international and currently Chief Executive of Rugby League.

He's a former LTA Head of Men's tennis and current chair of Sport England that just cut LTA funding for failing to meet participation targets. He's also the former boss of Roger Draper (now CEO of the LTA) from his time at Sport England?

So, wonder if this will impact in any way on the tennis politics?

There's been some interesting tweets this morning!

Jonathan Overend: (Radio5 live tennis pundit par excellence).

Don't be surprised if Wimbledon announce their new Chief Exec before end of the day. Search for Ian Ritchie's replacement is complete.

Breaking news: New Wimbledon Chief Executive is Richard Lewis.

Richard Lewis is Chair of Rugby League and Sport England and a former LTA performance manager. Knows tennis, knows sport politics.

Neil Harman:

Well, well, well, Wimbledon announce it is Richard Lewis, former GB international and chief executive of Rugby League. Excellent appointment

I vividly recall Richard Lewis stepping down from the LTA when he felt results did not stack up. How times have changed

WallaceEMann:

Not too sure on the politics of it all, but can AELTC dictate to LTA or is it vice versa?
Neil Harman:

The AELTC refuse to dictate to the LTA. They simply hand them the surplus from the Championships
WallaceEMann:

With a bit of luck, Mr Lewis' appointment might buck that trend, especially after last week. Hopefully Draper is worried
Paul Kelso:

Lewis's Sport England cut LTA funding. He'll argue not conflicted as AELTC private, but LTA CEO Roger Draper's world just got less friendly

Stu_Fraser:

Richard Lewis new All England Club Chief Executive.
Andy Murray and BBC commit to Queen's until 2018. A busy few minutes.

From the BBC report here (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/17666436)

Lewis, 57, said:
"I leave the RFL after 10 fulfilling years during which the sport has grown and prospered.
"I leave with a mixture of sadness but also excitement at taking up another wonderful opportunity."

Lewis will continue in his position of chair of Sport England, a role he took up on a part-time basis three years ago.

As an international tennis player Lewis reached a career high world ranking of 68 and represented Great Britain in Davis Cup from 1977 to 1983.
He was Director of Tennis at the Lawn Tennis Association from 1998 to 2000 before joining the RFL.
