View Full Version : Bubble Gap 2012 - Monte Carlo: Deadline Sun 15th Apr 11.15am UK time
Let's get those cars washed everybody, the next race is going to start soon! http://www.hazelnet.org/icon/cars/carwashing.gif
Oh wait, we're going onto the good old devil dirt next aren't we? In that case forget it, your car is going to be a nice brownish red whether you like it or not!
As always, rules of the competition and overall leaderboard posted here (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?538-Bubble-Gap-Championship-2012). The aim of this competition is to guess the bubble gap after Monte Carlo. The current race rankings are as follows:
http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/8360/race14412.jpg
The current bubble gap is 705. That's Andy's score(1880) - Isner's score(1175) = 705.
Players in grey are not playing in Monte Carlo. Note that Isner is also not playing MC. Currently there are tournaments running in Casablanca and Houston. Players in red are playing in Houston and no player in the top 20 is playing in Casablanca. For those of you who like to wait until the BG/race rankings settle, note that the finals of the above tournies won't happen until after Monte Carlo starts.
Only 1 player can change the BG this week and that's Isner, but being the player in 9th he directly affects the BG. Basically the BG will decrease with each match he wins in Houston until he gets to the F: at this point he'll overtake Almagro in the rankings and the BG will then stay the same no matter what happens (700). I'll update the chart each day.
The highest possible bubble gap is 1705. That's Andy winning the title with no-one doing well enough to overtake Isner.
The smallest (mathematical) bubble gap is 345. There may be a worse score but as far as I can see that's the lowest it can go. It involves Andy losing his 1st match, Raonic winning and Tsonga being the finalist (hey stranger things have happened :barmy:).
So in summary, your guess is between 345 and 1705. The better you think Andy will do the higher your guess.
Remember that you can't guess the same number as someone else and once you've posted your guess you can't change it.
Ranking points on offer for Monte Carlo are:
R1: 10
R2: 45
R3: 90
QF: 180
SF: 360
F: 600
W: 1000
Good luck to all who take part and may the best driver win! :trophy:
Deadline: Sunday 15th April, 10.00am
Edit: Updated chart with current results and updated BG ranges due to Isner not playing in MC. 12th Apr
Edit2: Updated chart with current results. Updated current and max BG after Isner's 2nd round win in Houston.
Edit3: Updated chart with QF results in Houston, current and max BG drop by 45.

I've updated the chart with results in Casablanca and Houston so far. Isner has yet to play and his match isn't due until midnight at the earliest.
Also, you may have read Sallydaisy's post in the main MC thread about Isner withdrawing from MC. This increases the max BG by 10 to 1795 and decreases the lowest BG by 5 to 345.
875 for me please - thanks

1020 please
Updated chart with results up to this point. Isner won his 2nd round match in Houston last night so the current BG decreases by 45 to 750 and the max BG also decreases by the same amount to 1750.
Monaco/Anderson are due to play soon and Isner will play his next match later on (midnight at the earliest).
Isner won his QF match last night so that decreases the current BG by 45 to 705 and the max BG to 1705. If Isner loses his match tonight the BG will stay at 705. If he wins it drops to 700 and will stay there.
I'll take 1065. Less than 24 hours to go everybody.

My guess is 935
Manaus - I know this is after your 10am deadline ..... but the OOP shows that main draw play isn't due to start until at least 11am UK time (12noon MC) so I think the deadline needed changing.
There's a qualifying match still in progress on Court Central between Bolelli v Bubka with the Italian leading 6'2, 3'2 so that 11am deadline is likely to slip back.
So, I think it's up to you to decide if my entry will count.
:thanks:

Oops thanks for pointing that out Sally. My mistake, checked the website a few days ago and pretty sure it said play for 1st round matches started at 11 but they've changed it now.
I'll accept your entry. :)

rules is rules :p
I know - but the deadline is normally when the Main Singles Draw starts ... or is scheduled to so I'm throwing myself on Manaus's mercy.
:worship:
btw rondun has 945
Changed mine to 935.
Bolelli to serve for the match at 6'2, 5'4 .....

Bolelli has just won. I've put 11.15 as the revised deadline in the thread title. By the time Dodig and Looby get onto court and warm up it'll be another 7/8 mins at least before points go up on LS board.

You're right, problem was when I set up the BG thread I only had the 'Program of the week' section of the MC site to go by when deciding when the deadline was and seeing as today has qualifying and main draw matches it meant that I could only go by (at the time) when play started.
I've added your entry though so no worries.

You'd think the ATP would have spotted that an OOP posted up by themselves would alter a deadline on their 'own' comp though. Bet the Bracket forum are having a field day!

Play is finally underway in MC ... and there's a tricky Croatian chicane coming up!
After all the fun of the last race, 20 drivers turn up for more in Monte Carlo. They're joined by Elenive who just happened to be in town and wondered over to see what the fuss was all about.
Qualifying is an interesting affair to say the least. Clearly the drivers aren't used to the dirt as quite a number of them struggle to control their cars and the pit teams are having to work overtime with all the repairs. After 3 broken rear wings, 2 battered nose cones and a punctured tyre (the stewards are still trying to work out how that happened), the drivers make it through qualifying.
Times are tight this time round but for the 3rd time in a row, eblunt impresses and comes out in pole, closely followed by Yorkie.
Ace!, Elenive and AllyB are the next fastest, posting times within a few thousandths of a second of each other.
Oscar and Linda are next, with the back of the top 10 filled by hfwardhouse, Sallydaisy and returning driver rondun.
All checks are done and drivers are ready to go. Is an action packed race for a second time in a row too much to ask for?
there might not be any overtaking yet but at least all the cars are safely off the starting grid.

Indeed, they're off! And also immediately eblunt and Yorkie, filled with confidence shoot off ahead of everyone and zip around the corners with ease. They're both on a set of hard tyres though so hopefully for them the dry weather continues...
Meanwhile, everyone else is a lot more cautious due to the fiasco during qualifying and taking things more slowly.
Is that rain I see or am I imagining things?
Hope it is rain would love to go flying off the circuit and end up next to last!
I'm just keeping well out of the way of the carnage up front!
http://freesmileyface.net/smiley/nature/rain-053.gif (http://freesmileyface.net)Nope not imagining it, that is indeed rain coming down. It doesn't take long before eblunt and Yorkie start sliding around the track and nearly crashing at various turns. Reports are still fuzzy as to how long this will last so the two decide against going into the pits and press on, albeit at a much reduced speed.
The other drivers are having a slighty easier time due to being on softer tyres but are still struggling to control their cars, the rain clearly not helping. There's a lot of tentative driving but a group of drivers spearheaded by Ace! eventually catch the front runners and push forward. eblunt attempts to keep in front but this only has the opposite effect as he starts to slide out of control again allowing a couple of more drivers to slip past him.
If this rain gets heavier the safety car may have to come out...
Think the sun may have come out - though thats not really a good way of describing what happened today
Hmm, looks like it was just a shower, as the rain gradually clears away and the sun comes out. The track is still pretty soaked though so the drivers are still cautious. Ace! continues to lead with the top 3 slowly separating from everyone else.
Not many laps to go but will anyone make a final push to improve their standing in the race?
:shocked::surprised:
Been tied up, so just caught up with everything!
Sadly no more action is seen in the closing laps of the race despite some attempts by a few drivers to do some overtaking (those French tyres aren't very reliable are they? ;)). Ace! maintains the lead and crosses the finishing line first followed closely by newcomer Elenive and AllyB.
