MONTE CARLO 2012, R2: Murray in a hurry, wins 6'0, 6'3 against Troicki

Andy starts his clay season with a R2 match in Monte Carlo where he'll face Viktor Troicki. The 26yr old from Serbia took just under an hour to win his R1 match against Monagesque Jean-Rene Lisnard 6'1, 6'3.

As it goes Andy leads their H2H 4-0 - which is quite a nice lead!!! Their last encounter was in the R16 at Roland Garros 2011 with a 5-set thriller going Andy's way 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 7-5.

Here's hoping Andy is raring to go on the red stuff ...

The match is probably going to be on Tuesday because tomorrow will be a continuation of R1 matches.

As expected really and whilst Andy has a good record it was pretty tight in their last encounter, though of course a few factors came into play! Let's hope Andy is in a confident mood when he steps onto court.

Although I have to say I'm a bit surprised they've not scheduled in a few R2 matches for Tuesday 'cos they're leaving all 16 x R2 matches to be played on Wednesday and 8 x R3 Thursday.

Which was the clay tourney a couple of years ago where Andy was playing (finishing off playing?) Davydenko and had a second match that day due to weather problems? They do not seem to have much leeway if the weather is bad, or am I missing something?

Andy didn't put a foot wrong during the first set and made only a couple of unforced errors in the 2nd. His first serve was 73% in the first set and 89% in the 2nd - and with his serve working so well so was the rest of his game. The drop shots worked; the baseline shots were on target and he simply gave Troicki no quarter. The Serbian had no answers to Andy's accurate tennis and had no weapons to stop the Murray game and he didn't have a single break-pint opportunity in the entire match.

Andy dominated from the baseline and won all the rallies - and some were very long!!! One in particular in the first set went to 37 shots - and Andy won it with a superb dropshot.
The 6-0 result in the first set was an accurate reflection of the stunning play Andy produced.

In the 2nd Andy kept up the pace but Troicki had clearly taken a deep breath and tried to regroup and he managed to hold his serve 3 times. However, there really wasn't any doubt about who'd win this match.

We probably shouldn't be too surprised at the result.

Although Andy struggled in their only other claycourt encounter, last year at Roland Garros, he fought back from a 0-2 set deficit to win that match in the R16.

Otherwise his 3 non-clay wins over Troicki have been relatively easy and it seems he does have the Serb's game sussed out. See below.
