Triathlon Highlights today - from the BBC:
TRIATHLON (08:55): Helen Jenkins (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/2012/athletes/b1fcde35-a694-453c-b2fb-9e446bce1e4d)
Jenkins might not have the profile of Brownlee brothers Alistair and Jonny but the Welsh triathlete is herself a world champion and in great form heading into Saturday's Olympic race at Hyde Park. She will have help from team-mates Lucy Hall and Vicky Holland. Australia's Erin Densham, Swiss Nicola Spirig and Paula Findlay of Canada could be among the medal threats.
Exciting finish to race - photo finish, Switzerland winning gold. Poor Roger won't be able to be the first Swss to win a medal in these games now.
Well done Helen Jenkins who came 5th. She had a lot of injury problems in the build up to the olympics.

TRIATHLON (11:30-13:45): Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, Men's Triathlon
Triathlon's wonder brothers Alistair and Jonny Brownlee have dominated their sport in recent years and finished first and second, by some distance, in the recent World Cup event in Switzerland.
With the home advantage of Hyde Park and a domestique in Stuart Hayes to help them, the brothers will be a daunting prospect for the likes of Spain's Javier Gomez, Russia's Alexander Bryukhankov, South Africa's Richard Murray and Germany's Steffen Justus.

There is a 15 second penalty for Jonny Brownleigh for getting on his bike too soon.

Mmmm difficult he is going to have to incur that in the run

That's going to make things tricky, it's a big ask to beat the rest of the field by 15s, especially as the two brothers tend to race as a team in the early stages....

What a thrilling finish to the triathlon - really wish I could have actually watched it rather than just sneaking the occasional peek at the BBC Live Text page while at work
:gold: for Alistair Brownlee and :bronze: for brother Johnny, with Javier Gomez of Spain taking :silver:
Well done boys :gold: :bronze:

A bit more on the triathlon and Johnny Brownlee's post race collapse - from the BBC Day 11 coverage. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/19083462)
The triathlon medal ceremony is delayed as Johnny Brownlee is seen being taken away by medics in a wheelchair, showing just how much the triathlon takes it's toll on athletes physically.
"He didn't look to be in great difficulty. It may have had something to do with the fact that he stopped and served that penalty, so that made have played a part. These guys are red lining it for two hours, so I am not surprised some need medical attention afterwards," says British triathlete Chrissie Wellington.
Triathlon gold medallist Alistair Brownlee: "It feels a bit underwhelming because Johnny has collapsed, but, no, it is fantastic. The race was unbelievable and the crowds were amazing. My ears are still ringing from all that noise.
"I am massively proud. The pressure was stacked up and so many things put to bed today.
Four-time Olympic champion Matthew Pinsent on Twitter: (https://twitter.com/matthewcpinsent) "Jonny's in bits. Might delay ceremony. Ice and medic being applied."

Hope he is ok. having to stop for 15 seconds doesnt sound much but cant be good for the body and heartrate.
It is a bit stupid, you'd think they could make them run a penalty loop or something like they do in other sports

Or take the time off the end time or something.

MODERN PENTATHLON (08:45-19:05): Nick Woodbridge

Weale lies in 7th place overall after 3 events and Woodbridge in 9th.
Only 3 people out of 37 did a clear round on the horse jumping event!
The final combined event of shooting and running is on at 18.45pm BST

MODERN PENTATHLON (08:00-18:50): Mhairi Spence
Mhairi Spence is the sport's world champion, winning gold ahead of team-mate and bronze medallist Samantha Murray in Rome four months ago. Picking a favourite in modern pentathlon is tough, though - the sport is so unpredictable (particularly the showjumping, where riders are paired with horses at random) that the 26-year-old Scot will need to rely on a good start in the fencing and gain momentum from there.
Quote from BBC Sport Olympics Day 16 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/olympics/19220653) page.
Samantha Murray is in third place after 3 events. And her surname is Murray. So come on Murray :cheer:
I though the Korean rider yesterday was very brave to get back on his horse after it reared up and fell over backwards. That could have been very nasty indeed. Its not often that you see a horse do that. I am surprised they used a horse that could get so spooked.

It does seem a bit of a lottery with the horse riding, which kind of spoils it.
Since its at risk of being dropped from the olympics, maybe it's time for a modern "modern" pentathlon- ditch the horses for bmx bikes or something? Might get more people taking it up?
Like the how they've combined the run & shoot into a biathlon thing-
C'mon Murray!

C'mon Murray!or make it ultra modern and do the horse riding on the Wii sport
Lol- they've already got laser shooting, so they're not far off. maybe all they need to do is to make the fencing into selling stolen wii's and they're there!
one more gold would be nice 30 being a nice round number
Big ask- but any medal would be nice!
How do you hurry a Murray!? :nailbiter:
cinnamon murrrrrrrrayyyyyyy

It is a bit of a lottery, but the horses are all able to jump a clear round. They designed the course to test the riders more than the horses. However, the horse Spence had looked very difficult to ride and she is a very experienced rider.

Fabulous performances from Sam, well done! A great way to round off the games, a few medals today! Personally I think the Modern pentathlon works well, like having some events which are a bit different!
