That's a very good win; I looked at the scores midway through the 2nd set and thought Oli might be going out.

well done oli.
career best win
He had a bit of a nightmare first set - 8 DF's, but managed to get through the rest of the match with no more - what a shame he didn't start like that! A great win for him!

Today they finish playing Qualifying in Eastbourne (main draw play starts tomorrow) and first up is Laura Robson on Centre Court to play her QR1 match against Daniela Borthwick (WC, GBR). If Laura wins she then has to play Bally in QR2; so we'll hopefully get a Brit into the main draw but I wonder which one???
going to this next week. There for both finals
Hope you have a good time Dewster. If you get time to write one, we'd love to read a blog :)

I thought Kim Clijsters was playing Eastbourne???
Wait! She's playing in Holland. Makes sense for her I suppose. Great to see her back.

Goodall takes the 2nd set against Ebden 7-6 in his final qualies match! Great effort against Ebden who is inside the top 100.
Goodall was serving for the match but Ebden broke for 5-5
DaveArneRiise
17-06-2012, 15:49
Sigh he had chances to go a double break up in this set as well. Can't afford to miss those kind of chances against top 100 players.
Awww, Ebden won the tb
what a pity Josh couldn't keep that going.
But in the ladies, Jade Windley is a break up in the 3rd against Foretz Gacon :)
DaveArneRiise
17-06-2012, 16:19
Windley was 5-2 down in the 2nd set. Stunning comeback.
and Jade has won 6-4 6-7 6-1!! :cheer:

great result for jade
apparently Bally has withdrawn with a neck injury
apparently Bally has withdrawn with a neck injury
Do you think that may have been a strategic withdrawal? A loss to another British player wouldn't have done her wild card chances for the Olympics much good.

Do you think that may have been a strategic withdrawal? A loss to another British player wouldn't have done her wild card chances for the Olympics much good.
She's got a neck/shoulder injury apparently so probably best not to play this week and give Wimbledon her best shot.
She said on FB that she hopes to play in the doubles later in the week.

17-06-2012, 20:42
A pity for Bally, but hopefully she can still play the doubles.
DaveArneRiise
17-06-2012, 20:45
Foretz Gacon is ranked 72 I believe and Jade is 555 or something. Some win that!

Bally withdrawing meant Robson got a Walk over and she is now playing against Bojana Jovanovski in the final round of the qualies. She has made a fine start up a break in the first set 3-1
Edit - Robson is through to the main draw ater defeating Jovanovski 6-2 6-3!

broken hearted to see ana's withdrawn. Was hoping to see her beauty first hand in the final
No reason given either - that's a little odd.
Great to hear the news from Eastbourne that Glasgow's Jamie Baker has beaten world No.50 Donald Young 6-1 6-4 in the first round. Top man.
yes - brilliant by Jamie!
and meant to say - well done Laura too!
who'd have thought 2 Glaswegians would ever top GB tennis rankings
DaveArneRiise
18-06-2012, 17:08
Wardy won the first set against Matosevic 6-4 but lost the 2nd 1-6. Held serve at start of the 3rd, hopefully he can join Baker in the 2nd round.

We've got a bug on Court 2 and no one wants to touch it. MoLay: "Ball girl, help her please. Use your hands. Yeeeeeesss." Hilarious.

DaveArneRiise
19-06-2012, 15:24
Watson comes through 6-3 6-4. She served brilliantly, didn't face a break point. She will play Safarova in the next round.
ooh that definitely sounds winnable! Didn't she beat her before - or was that one of the other Brits??
DaveArneRiise
19-06-2012, 15:29
Yes she beat her in Miami earlier this year 6-2 6-1.
Safarova is ranked just outside the top 20 at number 21 so I expect it to be a much tougher match this time around.
terrific scores for these two - robson and watson, doubles to follow?
Maza1987
19-06-2012, 16:33
Very nice.
Babos almost took out Safarova today as well so she obviously isn't playing ominously. Although she's very hard to predict.
Makarova is a good player on grass but this is the type of test I want to see Laura compete closely in.
Surely one, if not both, will be on Centre tomorrow and thus Eurosport.
Also, the GB rankings are looking very competitive between the four right now, but something tells me once Heather and Laura both get to number 1 and 2, they will be staying there for a long time. Anne has a heck of a lot of points to defend at the end of the year and, in my opinion, Bally is winding down her career.
Inglot and Marray just beat Granollers and Lopez 6-3 6-3 :cheer:
Flemchins up and running!
DaveArneRiise

Good win for Inglot and Marray over M.Lopez and Granny in the dubs!

Great day for the Brits after fab results for Heather and Laura earlier! Well done Femchins! The top seeds in the women's seeds haven't got much court time on grass though! A bit of a blow for Gasquet too!
well done Flemchins - had to miss quite a lot of the livescoring action!
Glad to catch up on this - thanks for posting updates folks. I haven't seen any of it and can't get livescores at work.
Hev lost to Safarova earlier.
Laura is a set down to Makarova

OK - more news on Eastbourne from British Tennis on twitter.
Court 1 at the #AEGONInternational (https://twitter.com/#%21/search/%23AEGONInternational) is still wet from high wind driving rain underneath the court covers. #sillyweather (https://twitter.com/#%21/search/%23sillyweather)

J and Linda.
Kohli v Seppi were due to play first match on Ct 1 but the court is unplayable at the moment so they've rejigged the OOP and it's possible the match hasn't yet been played 'cos they didn't start other matches until about 12noon.
Roddick takes the 1st set 63 over Fognini at #aegoninternational (https://twitter.com/#%21/search/%23aegoninternational).
If he wins he plays Darcis who beats Matosevic 62 76: http://bit.ly/KGRAcJ (http://t.co/eCborwnu)
Thanks Sally. It seems rather unfair to them that they couldn't be put on earlier as the winner will have to play another match today.
ETA - Ah, they're finally about to start. Just as I have to go out.

Not sure where to put this, but seeing it was at Eastbourne I'll put it here!
A good win for our boys over the US - this from the lta website:
"Also on Friday GB took the LTA Junior Challenge Trophy over USA after singles victories for all five of the British players; Joshua Ward Hibbert, Liam Broady, Peter Ashley, Luke Bambridge and Kyle Edmund, defeating the USA after two days of matches 6-2."

Young Austrian Paszek has captured the womens title beating Kerber in 3 sets. Saving MP's in the process. Great win for her. Reached the quarters of Wimbledon last year, she could ruffle some feathers. Plays Wozniacki in the first round.
