View Full Version : Bubble Gap 2012 - Rome: Deadline Sun 13th May 11.00am UK time
Onto Rome! Final Masters before Roland Garros! You all ready?
http://www.animateit.net/data/media/august2009/th_tumbleweed.gif
...Where is everybody? Oh right you're all zipping round the Madrid track. Well, time waits for nobody so you can all send in your entries for this race whilst driving! ('My pigeon got lost' is not an excuse for a late entry).
Rules, leaderboard etc. posted here (http://www.andymurrayfanforum.com/forums/showthread.php?538-Bubble-Gap-Championship-2012). The aim of this competition is to guess the bubble gap after Rome. The current race rankings are as follows:
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/875/race12512.jpg
The current bubble gap is 835. That's Andy's score (2150) - Almagro's score (1315) = 835
As you all know, Madrid is running right now. Players in red are still playing but none of them can affect the bubble gap.
The highest possible bubble gap is 1825. That's Andy winning Rome and Almagro losing his 1st match with no-one overtaking him.
The smallest (mathematical) bubble gap is 230. This involves Andy losing his 1st match, Almagro winning Rome and Tipsarevic the finalist.
So in summary, your guess is between 230 and 1825. The better you think Andy will do the higher your guess.
Remember that you can't guess the same number as someone else and once you've posted your guess you can't change it.
Ranking points on offer for Rome are:
R1: 10
R2: 45
R3: 90
QF: 180
SF: 360
F: 600
W: 1000
Good luck to all who take part and may the best driver win! :trophy:
Deadline: Sunday 13th May, 11am UK time
Edit: Chart and post updated with Tipsarevic win. Bubble gap reduced by 20 and min/max BG changed to reflect this.

Tipsy manages to pull off the upset and as a result the BG is reduced by 20 to 835. The smallest possible BG is now 230 and the highest 1825.

I'll go for 835, thanks!
I'll take 925.
First main draw match tomorrow is the 1st match on center court where play starts at 12 noon over there, so the deadline for entries is 11am UK time. Less than 14 hours to go. :)
1010 +1 if someone else has it

Thanks Sally, I've updated the 2nd post with all the entries.
Around 15 minutes to go!
That'll be it for entries. Thanks to all who entered.
From Madrid it's a mad dash to Rome for the next race. 18 drivers make it to qualifying and there's some confusion this time for the qualifying times.
JAMES4578 is the one who shines through here and easily posts the best time to take pole.
Amazingly eblunt and Ace! post the same best time on the same lap and the stewards aren't quite sure what to do. :shrug:Eventually laziness from the stewards prevail and they just flip a coin to decide - eblunt takes 2nd with Ace! in 3rd.
hfwardhouse and VamosVixs follow with confusion occuring again when AllyB and Oscar also post the same time - again the coin is brought out and AllyB wins it.
Sallydaisy and cazza99 fill out the rest of the top 10.
Will the drivers go all out here or will they conserve their energies for the big race coming up?
As the lights go green even more confusion occurs. eblunt gets off to a good start and overtakes JAMES4578 but the confusion occurs with VamosVixs, who also gets off to a good start. She easily passes hfwardhouse and Linda but when she moves in to overtake Ace! the latter attempts to block only for VamosVixs to overtake him at the next turn, going off track in the process. Ace! thinks she isn't allowed to do that but VamosVixs thinks she is because Ace! was being overly aggressive in his block attempt.
The stewards aren't quite sure what to do and decide to go inside for a discussion (really an excuse to have teahttp://www.wendysforum2.net/Smileys/default/0344.gif).
Looks like we're in for a lively race...
After that lovely cuppa and that delicious cake http://www.4smileys.com/smileys/birthday-smileys/birthday_cake017.gif that was sent over.....ahem, I mean after that very serious and heated debate about VamosVixs' overtaking, the stewards decide to penalise her with a drive through penalty. VamosVixs is none too pleased, but off she goes into the pits.
Ace! continues his steady pace and is feeling very confident, managing to overtake JAMES4578 and eblunt. He may be celebrating a bit too early though as Linda and hfwardhouse take him completely by surprise and pass him at the next 90 degree turn.
A bit further back AllyB mistimes a turn causing 4 drivers to zip past.
Oh action isn't excluded at the back either as Genbrit passes pabbers.
The stewards are pondering if they should go back in for more overtaking discussions (ie. there's still cake left).

I hope there's plenty of cake left 'cos the stewards might need it.
Conditions seem set for some more sneaky overtaking manoeuvres today.
:shades:
Ok, who was it? Which one of you blabbermouth stewards mentioned cake to the drivers? http://www.palyne.com/talk/Smileys/palyne/annoyed.gif
Whoever it was, the drivers are clearly preoccupied with thoughts of said cake. Some overtaking occured before that though with the main highlight being JAMES4578 managing to fight back from his slow start and taking back pole position. Strangely enough, all the drivers have somehow managed to move back to their original positions before the race started. :hmm:
However that happened, it doesn't look like there's much motivation to race on and things are dying down. Time to interrogate the stewards I think...
Somewhat bizarrely, I now find myself wanting Gasquet to reach the final! :rolling:

If Tsonga beats Nole will that reduce the gap?
No, as is shown in post #2 he is already in top 8 after R3
I don't think it can change any more now.
Nothing is going to rouse the drivers by the look of things. Their hearts aren't in the race anymore. They seem more concerned about the cake and having a party. Apparently it's someone's birthday or something I don't know.
The rest of the race pretty much becomes a procession with JAMES4578 easily crossing the finish line first for his first podium finish of the year.
I'll go get more cups and plates... :cuppa:

Well done to JAMES4578 for guessing that the BG will stay the same. :cheer: That's the 2nd time in a row someone has got the exact bubble gap. Also well done to eblunt, Ace! and the other point scorers.

Great stuff James.
Could do with an overall table update, even though I doubt I'll be leading it anymore.
