2026 Commonwealth Games

After Victoria in Australia pulled out, it did get suggested that Birmingham could host it again. But, the Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, recently said no to it. While the Commonwealth Games Federation are now looking for a host, and probably delaying it until 2027, the Olympic and Commonwealth Games triathlon champion Alistair Brownlee has now told The Yorkshire Post about his idea for it. He was recently elected chair of the European Olympic Committee's Athlete Commission and believes the 2026 Commonwealth Games should be held in the north of England. He believed Gateshead could host the athletics, Liverpool host the gymnastics, Sheffield host the swimming, Manchester host the cycling, Leeds host the cricket and Hull host the rugby sevens. James Mason, CEO of the West and North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, has said he believed it to be a good idea and he cited the Tour de France Grand Depart which was held in Yorkshire in 2014.

Christchurch in New Zealand is now talking to the Commonwealth Games Federation about possibly hosting the 2034 Commonwealth Games.

Apparently, the Commonwealth Games Federation are now in advanced discussions with Malaysia as a potential host for it.

Singapore have now claimed they are also in talks with the Commonwealth Games Federation as a potential host.

Malaysia pulled out of hosting it, yesterday, due to how much it would cost them.

Singapore have now pulled out as well, due to the cost.

Though Glasgow yesterday said they're ready to host it, if nobody else does, the Sports Minister of Ghana has claimed the Commonwealth Games Federation President has been looking at what they've got to offer and they (the CGF) are considering an African country. An announcement is expected next month.

Ian Reid, chair of Commonwealth Games Scotland, has said if Glasgow gets awarded the 2026 event then the most likely venue for the athletics will be in Scotstoun. They're looking at cutting the sports from 14 in 2014 down to 10.

Within the next 18 days, we'll know where the next one will take place. According to Susan Egelstaff, who has an article in the Glasgow Times, she's believed that no country has come forward to say they're bidding for it and the speculation still continues that Glasgow will be given it.

Though it was supposed to have been announced last month, the host city should now be announced sometime next month. The speculation still continues that it'll be Glasgow.
