Wishing you a good recovery Stell.
I had another blood test, yesterday. The oncologist's helper phoned me earlier to say, tomorrow's injection has been cancelled due to me having a low white blood cell count which means my immune system is no good. Though the chemo tablets finished last Thursday, she told me to take the last six tablets of Letrozole. I've got to have another blood test next Wednesday.
A nurse from the hospital has just phoned me to say they've made me an appointment for next Thursday for me to have a ECG, another injection and to pick up more tablets. But, it will depend on what the next blood test result shows.
I had to have a ECG test first, yesterday. But, the department didn't open until 2pm and I had to wait 20 minutes for them. Then, 15 minutes after they opened, another woman's name was called even though I was the first person there. The nurse, at the oncology department, thought I'd gone walkabout after I'd returned. She claimed she didn't realise they closed for lunch. I could only see the oncologist's helper for about a minute or so, as I was due to have the injection. She told me, my low white blood cell count was borderline and she would allow me to have the injection and more tablets (but the chemo ones would be a lower dosage). When I went there, for the injection, I got told that they had my name on their records but didn't understand why I was there. It had to be ordered. Three hours later, a nurse finally did it and also told me that it was the last one. I would now be having it once every three months. I've now got to have another blood test in two weeks time and go back to the hospital two days after it and have another ECG test and to see the oncologist's helper. Then, two weeks after that one, I've got to pick up more tablets.
A receptionist from my local doctor's surgery phoned me on Wednesday saying the doctor wanted me to have an injection next month. I found this to be very strange, as the nurse at the hospital had told me that I was now going to have it once every three months. On Thursday, my sister took me to the hospital and she decided to wait for me. I had the ECG done before going to the oncology department. I saw the oncologist's helper, who told me that there was nothing wrong with my heart. Also, the while blood cell count was still borderline. I told her about the phone call and she seemed to be mystified by it, as she'd written to the doctor saying the next injection will be in November. She then told me, the next one will be the blood test on the 1st of next month and she'll phone on the 3rd of next month. They'll send the tablets through the post, which delighted my sister. I then phoned the doctor's surgery. As I was talking to the receptionist, a nurse came and told me to leave as they were closing for the day. As I neared the exit, the receptionist told me that she had no idea what I was talking about and put the phone down. I tried to phone again, but my sister was waiting. When I did get the chance to phone them, they'd closed for the day. So, I sent them an email instead. Of course, I never received a reply.
I can’t understand why your Dr. or surgery would get involved when you are under the care of an oncologist and team. I have never known this to happen. Your Dr will only get reports from the oncologist to keep them up to date, and that is it.
I'm afraid my local doctor's surgery are in a world of their own. I think the oncologist's helper believes she's obliged to keep him up to date, as he did refer me to him.
Yes they have to keep them up to date, but the Dr does not do anything re treatment, that is up to the oncologist and his/her practice nurse.
I had another blood test, yesterday. Before she did it, the nurse gave me a date for the next injection. When I told her about the phone call, she had no idea who it could have been and also showed me the letter on her computer screen. It clearly said the next one must in November.
I received a Covid-19 test, yesterday, from the Imperial College London. They've said I've got to do it with one of my fingers and then give them the result via their website. This will be the third time I've had the test.
