Each word must be four letters or more, and each round you can do one of the following to the previous word:
1. change a single letter eg site to bite, game to gate, hate to hats etc
2. add a single letter in any position eg wine to twine, grad to grand, come to comet
3. remove a single letter eg craze to raze, flare to fare, charm to char
4. rearrange the letters to form an anagram eg mane to name, posed to dopes, rare to rear

so therefore neither 'raven' to 'rumen' or 'rumen' to 'rune' work according to the above rules.
Now I'm not a stickler for rules myself, and it's only a bit of fun, but every time I make an error like this some-one is very quick to point out that I've gone wrong and not followed 'the rules'. So carry on however you wish..
