Forum for Jack Draper - 2024 onwards
Just watching Jack play Baez - Jack is ranked 38 and Baer 26. He has just won 6-1 and 6-3 in 1 hour and 18 minutes. Two breaks in each set.
I do not know Baez or even Jack very well, but I was very impressed by Jack's point construction. I thought he was just somebody who hit winners but that was very impressive and on the day there seemed to be a much greater ranking difference.
Very encouraging! Well done Jack!
His current live ranking is 70 - he is working his way back up after time out hurt last year - starting from Challengers a few months ago (mentioned on original Draper thread Oct/Nov posts).
His ability is at least top 20.
Jack has just beaten M. Kecmanovic (ranked 27) 5-7 7-6 (9) 7-6 (7) in 3 hours 39 minutes. Well done! Hope he recovers for the next match and, in fact, does not overplay before the AO. I only saw this on live scores as it was on court 3 and I do not think there was a stream (though stand to be corrected). Great start to the year for Jack and I get the feeling he is going to be very solid top 20 (and...?) by the end of this year if he stays injury free.
Thanks David.
certainly top 20 potential, that was a tough one- glad Jack came through in the end!
Jack has great potential for the rest of the year. Just hope his health stands up to it. Get so worried with these youngsters damaging themselves so early on in their careers. So much pressure on them!
Jack has beaten Tommy Paul 6-1 6-4 :yahoo:
Jack will be playing Bublik in the semis in Adelaide not before 7.30 am Friday morning UK time.
Well done Jack. I did not see the match but there are some highlights on Youtube in a Quarter Final Round Up (search for Draper Paul Adelaide). I know highlights are just a snapshot but it seemed he was very patient in rallies and waiting until the right moment to hit winners. Paul was the number 1 seed I think. The same highlights show Bublik was a bit fortunate to come through his match (I think he won the last four games) and was a bit streaky. Jack also seems to have a lot of this week's opponents close to him in his AO draw!
Jack has just beaten Bublik 7-6 and 6-4. Bublik is so streaky! Second ATP Tour final.
Well done Jack.
Saw part of it. Had Barry Cowan commentating though. I have noticed some of the Amazon prime and previous Sky commentators are commentating on Tennis TV.
never sure quite was to expect from Bublik, tricky though so good win for Jack and another final-great!
Out of interest does anyone know who was commentating on Sky?
Jack is playing Lehecka in the Adelaide final not before 5.00 am UK time on Saturday morning. It follows the doubles final with Ram and Salisbury which starts at 3.00 am.
Jack unfortunately just lost in the final 6-4 4-6 6-3
He was very close at 6-4 4-4 0-30 in the second set, but did not quite get over the line. Lehecka has some very good tennis when fully on.
These two might have a lot more battles in the future.
Oh well, still a good week for Jack. Now recover for next week! :)
Disappointed for Jack.
A pity Jack did not get the title, certainly still encouraging week though!
Jack playing at RG against de Jong lost the first set 5-7, but leads 4-2 in the second.
Jack loses the 2nd set 4-6.
Jack just won the 3rd set on a tie-break 7'6 (3)
Jack takes the 3rd set in a tie-break 7-6 (7-3)
And Jack is leading 2-0 in the 4th set.
4-1 now
Rain delay, court covered.
Rain - covers coming on amazingly quick.
Humph!!!
:wimbrolly:
Covers coming off
Players on court
Jack has won the fourth set. :cheer:
We have a proper match now. :coaster:
:cheer::cheer:
But he lost the 5th set!
:crying: :crying:
What a shame!! After a great fight back - maybe the rain break didn’t help him as he had the momentum at that point! Maybe, maybe…..
A pity for Jack and disappointing, still credit in extending the match.
Disappointed for Jack.
Brits have been really disappointing. Both Cam and Jack should have won their matches. For the others it is a tough ask.
Jack Draper now the British No 1.
And into the Stuttgart final!
