Re: 2026 Commonwealth Games
Congratulations for Glasgow, which is expected to be announced as the new host this week.

Re: 2026 Commonwealth Games
No surprise about Glasgow being named the new host, especially as Australia is practically paying for the whole event.

Re: 2026 Commonwealth Games
Scotstoun Stadium will be hosting the athletics. Anyone interested in going there will have to put their name down, if they get an email asking if they're interested in going and want tickets, as the stadium can only hold up to 10,000 people.

Re: 2026 Commonwealth Games
23rd July to 2nd August will be put to the Glasgow City Council next Thursday as the dates for Glasgow to host it. It's a bit tight for our athletes, who also want to compete in the European athletic championships in Birmingham, as that starts eight days later.

obviously it is scaled down, disappointing though there are no racket sports/diving.

Re: 2026 Commonwealth Games
It was always going to be a scaled down event, as it was claimed there wouldn't be enough time for them to get all the stadiums ready. It was a bit strange as ?5 million was spent on building the hockey stadium for the last time Glasgow hosted it but it won't be used for the next one. Katie Sadleir, the CEO of the Commonwealth Games Federation, has claimed there are three countries which have expressed an interest in hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games. So, hopefully, they'll include more sports.

Re: 2026 Commonwealth Games
Instead of the 1500m in athletics, it'll be the Mile which will be a nod to 'The Miracle Mile' held in Vancouver in 1954 and last run in 1966 in Kingston, Jamaica when Sir Roger Bannister and John Landy went head-to-head after Bannister's famous under four minute mile run. Also, the 4x400m mixed relay is to be added in athletics.
