Murray v Gasquet in the 4th Round of Roland Garros - and these 2 have some history!!!
The H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=G628) is 3-3 but there is more to it than that.
They've played 1 match a year since 2006.
Dammit won the first 2:
2006 Canada Masters Semi's - 6-2, 7-5
2007 Paris Masters Quarters - 6-3, 0-6, 6-4
and by w/over so no counted by the ATP
2009 Dubai Qtrs
Muzzah won the next 3:
2008 Wimbledon R16 - 5-7, 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-2, 6-4
2010 Roland Garros R128 - 4-6, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-2, 6-1
2011 Wimbledon R16 - 7-6(3), 6-3, 6-2
and earlier this year Dammit beat Andy in the R16 in Rome 6-7(1), 6-3, 6-2.
But we now know that Andy was suffing a little from the back injury he'd been carrying since earlier in the year.
They are 1-1 on clay but Andy has the advantage of winning in 5 sets twice and in both cases coming back from being down 2 sets. Ritchie has the more recent win, only 2 weeks ago, to give him confidence.
Which of them will win this time???
:pierre:
This could well be on Chatrier on Monday - details to be confirmed when we know the order of play.

Yep should be, def Chatrier i think!
we're off to my mother-in-law's for a few days - so glad this is on tv - no internet there! So I won't be posting on here from tomorrow - but will still be cheeing for Andy!!
Looking forward to this one .... I think!! Will prbabaly be a murraycoaster if their previous encounters are anything to go by! So glad it's a bank holiday so I don't have to work!
If there's a match that's almost guaranteed to have a Murray coaster element, this is it. Keep taking the blood pressure medication, peeps - you're going to need it.

Let's Go! C'Mon Andy!!!!!!!!!
I don't think the point between Dimitrov and Gasquet has been brought up on the forum, but here it is.
ESPN (http://espn.go.com/tennis/french12/story/_/id/8000847/french-open-serena-willams-john-isner-our-first-week-award-winners)- The day Gasquet lost his bananas
In the Daily Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/tennis/article-2153700/French-Open-2012-Andy-Murray-beats-Santiago-Giraldo-Roland-Garros.html)- No drama for Murray as fourth seed sails past Giraldo and into second week at Roland Garros
Gasquet beat Murray in Rome just a fortnight ago and in front of a partisan crowd tomorrow the Frenchman will relish an opportunity to avenge the pain he felt after surrendering a two-sets lead to the British star on the show court here two years ago. ‘I wouldn’t see myself as the favourite,’ admitted Murray last night.
‘He will have the crowd behind him and this is probably his best surface. But when I played him here the last time, I hung in, I fought really hard and just managed to turn the match around.’ Significantly, Murray recovered from two sets down against Gasquet at Wimbledon a couple of summers earlier, too.
.......
But perhaps a better indicator of Gasquet’s condition is that he was sick on court after a prolonged rally in his previous match against Grigor Dimitrov.
‘I saw that, and obviously I’ll try to extend the rallies,’ said Murray, who can call on the wisdom of Ivan Lendl, a man who won this title three times.
........
In practice today, Lendl will set Murray some drills aimed at creating the downfall of Gasquet. Then, this evening, the two of them, with Dani Vallverdu, who remains a confidant of Murray, will formulate a game-plan. ‘We’ll have good tactics in place,’ promised Murray, who has been painstakingly pieced back together by his phsyiotherapist Andy Ireland, who has worked on manipulating the troubled area of his back, as well as overseeing rigorous stretching exercises.
This is what Gasquet has to say - Sky Sports - http://www1.skysports.com/tennis/news/12110/7793486/
"I think it's always better to play him on clay than on grass. But he's in the top four and has been for quite a while. So I'm not the favourite," he said about facing Murray.
"But it's up to me to play a big match, to play inside the court, which is what I managed to do in Rome during the third set. I'll be playing on a big court. I have the crowd, and I have to give everything to have no regrets."

Andy is 3rd up on Chatrier tomorrow versus Gasquet.
Not sure what time play starts but probably 11am Paris, 10am UK so Andy would be on around 1.30/2.00pm our time.
Much will depend on who is playing on PC first and second match
1st Ferrer, 2nd Sharapova
traveller7
03-06-2012, 16:54
ferrer could be long one
Andy's and Rafa's matches will be on at the same time :crying: :crying: :crying:
KnightOwl
03-06-2012, 17:13
They'll certainly overlap, but depending how quick the matches before are, you may still get to see some of each...
Ferrer does not waste too much time, he just gets on with it and Maria has been awesome, just swatting the opponents in 2 quick sets, hope Maria does it again but she can take some time to go through her "rituals".
Andy should be on betwwen 2/3 PM UK. Good Luck Andy.
Don't forget they'll also put the resumption of Tsonga-Wawrinka on, probably after Sharapova & before Andy.
Madeline
03-06-2012, 20:18
The Tsonga/Wawrinka match will be to finish, they usually put them on second, so that pushes Andy's match back a bit further. Tsonga is 4-2 in the final set so it may not take too long - unless of course Wawrinka breaks back, and the fifth set goes to 70-68. . .

Ah, the revised OOP is up now: http://2012.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/scores/schedule/schedule14.html I doubt they'll be able to get through all the matches on Lenglen.

Does anyone know if this will be shown on itv 1?
I don't want to set my sky plus to record itv 4 only to realise they were showing another match whilst andy was on itv1. And vice versa.
According to the TV guide they only have RG on ITV4 tomorrow, there are other programmes on ITV1.

My main hope is that the real Andy arrives on court and beats Richie.
If Richie were to win, I really hope it will be because he wins rather than Andy losing, if you see what I mean.
Given last week, no expectations one way or the other. I certainly am not going to get upset if the first set goes the wrong way. Or even overly confident if Andy starts off like a train.
If Andy cannot win in straights (and is it my imagination or are more top players struggling to win in straights?) then at least the longer it goes on, the more memories of the past may get inside Richie's head.
If you are 100% to play, please bring the 'A' game!
C'mon Andy!

Andy will likely need to be somewhere near his best to see off Gasquet tomorrow, Just hope he is in fine form and ok physically.Ideally he wants to get off to a good start. Hopefuly their last match in Rome wasn't too signifcant, Andy should have a greater chance over 5. Coluld be an entertaining match, let's go Andy!
Good luck Andy. Will be rooting for you as always.
I have no doubt that Andy can beat Ritchie over 5 sets but I'm just concerned that his body won't stand up to a 5 set match. Fingers crossed that he comes out blazing and does it in 3!

Big scramble at CT5 as Gasquet comes off, Nadal goes on - and in the middle Brit junior Josh Ward-Hibbert who's about to hit with Rafa!
Josh has decided to go to College in American for the next 3 years. It's a route taken quite often now by some of the tennis youngsters - even though it means they effectively miss 2/3 years on the pro circuit. It's producing guys who enjoy success at a later age and John Isner is a good example of that.
Josh is the guy holding the black/orange bag in the picture in Cazza's post.

Well given the winner plays Ferrer, who dropped just five games today, and has abundant reserves of energy anyway, straight sets would be very useful indeed!

Thinking that Andy's match might be a little later than we thought.
The ladies match prior has only just started so it's difficult to gauge whether it'll be 2 or 3 sets.
2 sets and Andy could be on around 2.30; 3 sets and nearer 3pm.

Jim Courier seems to think the weather will help Andy who has a shorter backswing and a wider variety of strokes. Let's hope he's right

It's a nice idea, but Jim probably hasn't seen how Andy sometimes struggles with his serve in windy conditions. And a slower court won't help either.

The ladies match prior has only just started so it's difficult to gauge whether it'll be 2 or 3 sets.
2 sets and Andy could be on around 2.30; 3 sets and nearer 3pm.
So, that ladies first set took about 50mins; Andy around 3pm if it goes to 2, 3.30pm if it goes to 3.
And Sharapova was break point down when serving that set out ....... so anything could happen.
Surprisingly, I'm really not nervous - perhaps that's because I don't have any real expectations for Andy today. Of course, I'd love him to win but it might even be a bonus if he didn't and had more time to recover before Queens.
I think this will be a tough one, I can see them exchanging the first two sets, but then I can't predict where it'll go.
Dunno if this is a important match or not, because the prospect of Ferrer in the quarters is not an appealing one at all for me right now.
Got my pessimists cap on today. Sorry.

Do you think he took some painkillers and they are wearing off? C'mon Andy. You can hold. So hold!

These errors are to bad surely to not have some kind of physical reason??
Serve your way out of it. C'mon Andy!

Yeah, maybe - he has clutched it a couple of times - but then he's always clutching things :)

Gasquet pretty much tried to do a second first serve, and the resulting DF gives Andy the set!
Signs of a Gasquet implosion there?

All presents gratefully received! 11-1
Best of three sets begins now!
If you need treatment, get it now.
Were they booing Andy cos they think he is feigning back problems?

what's it to gasquet and the crowd if andy is holding his back from time to time? Cheers for the choke Ritchie ;)

Pretty much yeah. Gasquet didn't seem to approve either.

good going andy now stamp on him...
Ummm...I'm not sure that's allowed....
:big grin:
great hold now if we can force gasquet to force up a few opportunities
cmonnnnnn
There are some interesting stats for the second set. Gasquet was only winning 25% of second service games, and Andy only 28%. Andy was, however, winning 76% of his first service games and getting 66% of his first serves in. Wouldn't Andy be better off doing first serves every time?
Ummm...I'm not sure that's allowed....
:big grin:
Yeah do it the Lendl way instead...whack the balls at him.
little glimmer

Perfect drop-shot - Gasquet totally fooled....
Andy has now won more points than Gasquet in the match. 65-60. And the momentum is swinging towards Andy. :)

Easy!
Gasquet has, quite literally, thrown in the towel. Well, he dropped it on the court, anyway.

wheres your killer instinct?! :p...if gasquet hadnt whined when andy held his back i maybe would have a bit more sympathy...
still a long way to go but another break here Andy could go along way to killing this set, keep the ballinplay and hand gasquet the rope

gasquet is probably more talented than anyone on tour but his mental state is mush. Never ceases to amaze me how tempremental his game is
woooooow Andy You're a bad boy
Andy had a bit of a giggle hitting to Gasquet's backhand there.
3BPs for Andy. :) Gasquet just falling apart here.

I wonder how long it will take for Andy to realise that constantly hitting to Gasquet's backhand will not necessarily break it down.
...or maybe it will... ;)
