Andy Murray v Marin Cilic
Wilst Cilic took over 5 hours to reach R4, Andy had to race against the clock to beat Baggy.
There's no doubt both men have had to come thought the wringer to reach this stage and have earned their place in R4 the hard way. Cilic had to play 32 games in his 5th set match against Sam Querrey so he, and Andy, will be mighty relieved to have Sunday off.
Andy leads their H2H (http://www.atpworldtour.com/Players/Head-To-Head.aspx?pId=MC10&oId=C977) 5-1; match record below. He seems to know how to handle the game of the 6'6" Croatian 'giant'.
Their only meeting on grass came at the Davis Cup tie held at Wimbledon in 2007 where Andy finally prevailed in 5 sets.
They've had 2 encounters at Grand Slams with Cilic knocking Andy out in 2009 at the USO but Andy returning the favour at the next opportunity in Melbourne 2010.

Who gave us all a sad day in a last 16 match a couple of years ago (was it US Open 2010 or 2009?).
As Andy just said, does not get easier. They are all tough opponents and Andy will need to be on his game!
2010 Wimbledon seems to have been a struggle to get into the second week (or not) for a lot of top players!
It was 2009 ... was just checking the head to head - Andy has a 5-1 lead on that and has won their only meeting on grass .... albeit in 2007 in the World Group playoff in Davis Cup ...

Marin Cilic up next for Murray in round four on Monday. Cilic, if you didn't see it, had to go to 17-15 in the fifth set to get past Sam Querrey.
From Marin Cilic, Andy Murray's next opponent: "There was definitely some drama there whether they would finish in time. Well done to Andy Murray, he played well. For me it's a big challenge to play Andy, especially on Centre Court at Wimbledon where he is motivated the most."
Andy is second on Court 1
Of course, they have managed to put Andy onto court 1 on a day that it is forecast to rain all day :grrr:
I hope the forecast changes.
To be fair I suppose they have to put Djoko and Fed on Centre - Andy has played all his matches on Centre so far. At least they haven't scheduled him lto be on last.

Of course Andy had to be on court 1 the day when the forecast seems to be poor! Hopefully thee won't be too many delays and at least he isn't scheduled last.
Just seen the forecast for Monday - pretty much rain all day and Andy's up second on Court 1. We could do without Cilic having an extra day's rest!
Yes, can't see this being played on Monday

Was so excited to see Andy is on Court One tomorrow as we have tickets for that court, please please don't let it rain all day
Only good thing is 1st match on #1 court is Ladies and won't play 5 setters
anyway wish him luck!
did Nole play any match on Court#1?
I remember Fed did
If it rains early on, my guess is that they will redo the schedule and spread the singles matches over several courts at the same time.
This must have come as a surprise to Marin Cilic who was speaking on 5 Live last night about the pressures of facing Andy on Centre Court on Monday. The forecast for Tuesday is also poor so Andy (or whoever) could face a back log of matches. Well done Wimbledon scheduling committee, not only does the bottom half of the draw have one less days rest but if there is any play, it's going to be interrupted. Nobody would think it unreasonable if all Andy's matches were scheduled on Centre Court. It would happen at other slams with a local contender. I'm sure Federer plays all his matches on Centre Court at the Swiss Open.
Wonder if they might move Andy's match to centre to get it played after Nole and Fed? Is there room in the schedule to do that?

I suppose it would depend on how quickly those scheduled on Centre dispatch their opponents. Fed plays Malisse and Djoko plays Troicki - both could be over in 3 sets. If Azarenka is playing well she could beat Ivanovic in 2 - so I suppose it's possible but probably unlikely. I sometimes think Wimbledon bends over backwards to make it as difficult as possible for Andy so that they can't be accused of favouritism!
Just looked at the official forecast for Monday which says - rain clearing later - 15 degrees - 37 km wind. Damp, cold and windy - not great conditions even if they do get to play.
I've been getting the referee's office notifications and they have been chopping and changing matches all week.
Wimbledon's own website seems to think there will be some dry spells.
Let's hope that they know what they are doing!

I agree Wimbledon does seem to make it as difficult as possible for Andy and not for Novak and Roger, Roger was interviewed by Sue and he said he was very friendly with Philip Brook the AELTC Chairman says it all really

The weather for the week ahead on the BBC did not look good. It looked like the rain was getting thinner in London late afternoon but did not show early evening. It looks like rain on Tuesday. Maybe a bit of a gap and rain again later in the week.

Surprised they put Andy on 1. In my opinion the schedule for centre is awful! All the matches on 1 look better. Was going to wait for 4 th round but so glad I went yesterday!

It might also be to give supporters on court 1 a fair chance to see the top players too. Im sure the organisers will reshuffle if they all get done on centre in good time
I have to say - I always find Court 1 exceptionally noisy (in terms of what is going on in the corridors outside).
But anyway - Rozzie's patented winter wimbledon kit will be in full effect - layers, coat and a sneaky (shhh, I can't believe I am saying it)... a scarf!

Was hoping it would be another match under the roof to be honest. Court clearly plays quicker under the roof. Like fast indoor conditions and Andy looked so much more comfortable in the Baggy with roof closed.

The only slight comfort is the winner plays the winner of the match afterwards so if Andy's does not get played... unless they transferred it to centre!
PS In the quoted post above I of course meant to type Wimbledon 2012!
Any idea what the weather is supposed to be like today?
It's meant to chuck it down for at least the next 2 days.
I agree Wimbledon does seem to make it as difficult as possible for Andy and not for Novak and Roger, Roger was interviewed by Sue and he said he was very friendly with Philip Brook the AELTC Chairman says it all really
It doesn't say anything. Federer is the only one of the top 4 to have not played all of his matches on Centre Court - he's already played one of his 3 matches on court 1, when Berdych v Gulbis was given preference and put onto Centre Court.
Also - last month, the French Open alternated all of the top players between Chatrier and Lenglen, irrespective of nationality - even Jo Wilfred - which seemed to work well. They should have put Nole on court 1 at some stage to even things up a little.
Today could have been a good day to do this.
I just feel :grrr: about the whole thing. I can't remember but did they put JWS on an outside court at RG with a tough draw and rain in prospect? I somehow doubt it. Both Nole and Roger have opposition that on paper they are likely to brush aside. Those in Andy's quarter (and this is to be fair to them all) have it, on paper, much tougher. Possible 5 setters so that if they don't finish today, it gives Nole and Roger a head start. The schedulers knew this. Also if it is the AELTC's very British attempt to be uber fair by putting Andy on Court 1, then Roger's (rather inappropriate) comments cast doubt on that fairness and so they might want to rethink things!
Anyway I just hope the Court 1 matches get played today.
I would have put Jo Wilf v Fish on CC this afternoon - or maybe JMDP v Ferrer.
And then Andy v Cilic this evening.
Both Nole and Rog - would have put them on court 1.
Hope there isn't a lot of waiting around / disruption to play today.
Good Luck, Andy. I've got everything crossed for you. <onlypositivevibes>

Agreed. The player it's really tough on is Gasquet (or Mayer) - 3rd on Court 3 today, so may well not get played, and will then have to face Nole who'll be done and dusted under the roof today.

I agree. Find it bizarre they have ignored all the seeded matches eg most interesting in favour of fed and nole. I thought they would put one of them on, not both! Problem is, these 2 matches get played but there is no quarter match ready. Happened to me years ago when I was meant to watch quarters and ended up watching a right mish mash. Totally not worth the money.
Feel sorry for Ferrer, he only got put on centre on Saturday as he was playing Roddick who they love. Probably Ferrer's first time there,no wonder he started slowly! I would definitely rather watch Ferrer-Del Potro and Andy-Cilic. Also I only think Andy was there Saturday as Rafa was out, bet they would have moved Andy if not in favour of Rafa.
I also find the choice of women most odd. Was expecting either Maria, Kim or Serena on centre.
Would love to know their process in choosing the schedule. Maybe there will be discussion on beeb later. Although Sue is sure to side with Federer.
If any of the top 3 came from countries who stage a grand slam you can guarantee they would be scheduled on the court with a roof should rain be forecast. There would be an outcry if they were not. 8 million watched Andy's match against Baghdatis on the BBC on Saturday and I'm sure even more would want to see his next match yet it would seem Wimbledon could care less about public opinion. Both Djokovic and Federer are playing unranked players with whom they both have huge win-loss records over so it's more than likely they will coast through whereas the matches on court 1 all featuring seeded players are likely to be much closer and therefore longer.
If the matches on Centre finish early, would they let Andy play on there for a night match I wonder?

Hopefully Andy can get this over and done with really quickly and hopefully he will be able to play and not have to play on tuesday if the match is suspended due to rain which would be really bad news. GOOD LUCK ANDY WILL BE WATCHING YOU !!

I must have missed this one - what were Fed's comments?
If the matches on Centre finish early, would they let Andy play on there for a night match I wonder?
There are 4 unscheduled matches for such an eventuality so they'd probably shove on a mixed doubles match. If they were to take the outlandish decision to move a singles match, no doubt in the determination to be even handed it would be the Del Potro/Ferrer match.
They are interviewing a Wimbledon official now and they said it is highly unlikely they will move a match from court 1 to centre tonight if the matches on centre finish early.

Don't get his comment saying people couldn't arrive on time if they started at 12. Surely it is easier to get there earlier than stay late. Is for me anyway. I am normally there 11ish but can't stay past 10. I am sure this is more to do with the corporates than general public.

I'd been wondering the same thing. The corporates won't be able to finish their lunch on time.

If they had continuous play on the show courts from noon, how would they sell their expensive meals in the restaurants?:grrr:
If people couldn't get to their seats in time for an earlier match they could always fill the seats with people in the queue!!! They don't have a problem getting there early, do they?

Absolute farce that Andy isn't playing on Centre Court! Home Grand Slam, not to mention he is #4 in the world!
Ridiculous. At the Aus Open it's almost like the Tournament Officials go out of their way to get Aussies on Rod Laver Arena. Have had to put up with Molik, Dellacqua, Dokic & now Tomic the past few years.
Can not believe this.

Agreed mate it's nothing short of a disgrace.
When the BBC spoke earlier to the old buffer in charge of scheduling he scoffed at the suggestion of moving another singles match to Centre Court should there be time, "we've got an unfinished Ladies doubles match"! Unbelievable.

Surely the BBC should come up with commentators who are less negative about our only surviving hope - shame on you, Pat Cash and BBC; I've said it before and I'll say it again - Andy Murray is under-valued and over-criticised!

But you guys, as well as the guys at Flushing Meadows, understand the excitement of a late evening match for the home crowd. Wimbledon haven't even decided on the meaning of "late"!

Think the rain delay might be quite lengthy and of course Andy had to be on court 1 today! Murray always used to be on centre but for a few years now he's played 1 match on court 1,it's as if they don't want to be accused of favouritism. Anyway Andy in a good position even if Cilic may have dipped a bit and will surely be eager to maintain the momentum when they resume.

Even the pigeons are committing Hara-kari to avoid this match. The Centre Court schedule read deathly dull before it started and so it's proving to be. Someone needs to remind Wimbledon they're in the entertainment business. The BBC should be putting pressure on the them to schedule Andy on Centre Court. It's what happens at other slams from broadcasters requesting home players.

They said on ESPN that once they start a match on a court they have to finish on that court, so Andy has to finish his match on Court 1 now that it has started. Hope the rain ends before finals day!!!!! :wimbrolly::red devil:
With singles matches they usually put them on the same court the following day, but I've seen doubles moved to a different court to complete.
